Yesterday DD and I were talking about the "Housewives of New Jersey" and the "Housewives of Orange County".. Then we got to wondering...

How are these "groups" of women chosen for these shows? Do they go and audition? Does Bravo hear about these groups of friends by word of mouth?

We know a group from Long Island that would be great! :rotfl:

I was wondering the same thing as well. I think that maybe it was word of mouth or maybe they went on the website. Or after they saw the first Housewives, they sent in a tape or called and said "Come look at us! We are interesting."

We heard through word of mouth they were looking for families for Wife Swap and wanted to send my cousin.....she would be GREAT!!!! I love her dearly but seeing how other people live would be a good wake up call for her.

They may have just went on the website and sent an email with the story or said I know 2 women and then the TV show does the rest.

Who cares how they pick them? We are in Scotland and absolutely LOVE the shows!!!
My dream is to be an Orange County Housewife :rotfl:

Tamra was co-hosting the Today show's 4th hour and she was asked how she became an OC housewive and she said it was an accident. Her friend was over and handed her an application and she said 'what the heck' and filled it out and they called her and the rest is history.

I think though at least with the OC, a couple of them already knew each other before the show began, like Lisa, Jeana, and Vicki. Didn't Lisa and Vicki work together? So maybe they applied together.

The NY ones didn't seem to know each other though...

I know that Dina, from the NJ housewives, was previously featured on My Big Fat Fabulous Wedding, on VH1. But I don' t know if that was her in for the Real Housewives.

Whatever the case, they've picked some real lulus.

I just saw parts of that this weekend, so I assumed that is exactly how they ended up on RH. The exhibited just enough crazy to qualify. :rotfl:

They are all nutso though. My favorite is OC and my least favorite is Altanta. I don't know anyone from my home state like that! :confused3

I would really like them to do a Miami one. :thumbsup2

I agree. The Atlanta one made our state look bad.

In Atlanta, Nene and Kim were friends several years befor the show. Both allegedly had been dancers at Club Cheetah, Kim's stage name was Barbie. Sheree, Kim and Nene all ran with the same crowd. I think Nene was approached first and then asked if she new of any other out spoken women who would be a fit. I think in general there is one leader, like Jeana in the OC, Jill in NY,who knows all of the ladies some more than others and that is the pool they choose from. Kim had her b-day party a few weeks ago at a restaurant near where I live. It was open to the public before 10, I drove by and they had the crew from Bravo filming outside on a red carpet. All of the above is well documented in the AJC, there is a lifestyle reporter on staff who is obsessed with the ladies and reports if they sneeze.

The only season I watched was Atlanta since that's my hometown. My Lord were those women crazy. One of my mom's clients actually lives next door to Kim so my mom has actually spoken with Kim a few times. She said she is just as crazy and loud as she appears on tv. She also said her kids were quite the busybodies... not surprising. I think some of the women they choose for this show are approached like someone previously stated. I remember reading an article earlier this year and it mentioned that Usher Raymond's (soon to be ex) wife was approached about being on the next season of the Atlanta show. He shut that one down though.

Alex from NY, said she knew the producers and they approached her first. Then they added the rest of the cast. Alex kept stessing that they are a cast and paid.

Dina stated she was picked first because of her wedding show that featured the Brownstone (sp). The producers approached Dina and Caroline.

I also read that Danielle from NJ's gay friend is a make up artist for Bravo and I think that was her connection to ge into the show. She was not friends with any of the women for very long.

This morning my husband and I were watching HGTV and Gretchen and the guy she was dating that passed away were on it( sorry I can't remember his name) They were redoing their backyard. The info said that it was from 2007.

I can not stand Atlanta!!! I hate to think that people think we are all like that. I saw the birthday party they were having for Kim and the new girl and could not believe the media was promoting it so much. who cares. Kim said she was only 30 during the show and I just do not believe her and I don't think Andy did either during the reunion show. There is just no way she is 30 and if she is then she needs to start living better because she will look 80 when she is 40.
