Question about adding someone to room mid-trip...

My wife and I are booked for ASMU Aug 31-Sept 8; got the free dining package. Just paid in full yesterday.
Today we are 49 days out.

My question is this:
My best friend is coming up on Tues Sept 3 and staying through for four nights.
I thought we would just add him to our reservation (for the whole 8 nights), but then it seemed wasteful to do that.
Thought also just reserving a room (FL resident discount!); but we want him in our room with us.
I called Disney, and the agent who helped me told me to just go to the front desk when he arrives, and see if they can accommodate him.
Perhaps someone has had a similar situation and can help me.

It's not a problem to add him to your reservation when you check into the resort. He will have to pay the extra adult charge (I think it's $15/night). This way he can use ME if he's flying in. He'll get his own key to your room, too. But he will have to buy his own park tickets and will have to pay OOP for his meals.

We have done this twice with my sister when myself and my dd's have been on the free dining and the paid dining.

She arrived 2 days after we did so I went to the front desk the day after we checked in to add her to our room and make her DME reservation. She did not have dining credits but she did have a room key in her name and was able to add her park tickets to her KTTW card. Not sure what the extra adult fees are as she was the 2nd adult in our room.

If you add her to the room ahead of time she will have to have the same package you do - once you check in though your package requirements have been fulfilled so there are no fees or package requirements.
