Question about access to AP website before activating AP...

Hi,

I can purchase a DL AP "e-Ticket" (print out after online purchase and take the "e-Ticket" to DL to activate) for a 20% discount thru my company's HR dept.

Will I be able to access the DL AP holder's website prior to activating the AP at DL?

I wanted to be able to check out the AP website for possible hotel deals, etc. prior to our trip.

Thanks in advance!

There seems to be mixed info on that. Some say you can access the AP portion of the DLR website and get the AP rates and other things, and others have said they were not able to if they did not have the actual AP activated yet! So I have no clue what to tell you! I guess, if you cannot access it once you have your AP voucher, you can ask someone here on the DIS to check the hotel rates for you on the AP site. I did that the other day for someone here, and as long as I still have an AP, I don't mind checking for anyone who needs info. Trouble is, if I don't renew my own AP right when it expires, I wonder if I will still have access to the AP site myself!:lmao:

I have read that you can, but it doesn't seem to work for everyone. I think the ones you buy online allow you to register on the ap section of the disneyland.com site, which will then let you see the rates and so on. There is a barcode or number of some sort that you plug in. However, as Sherry said, there are some conflicting reports on it working, in particular with the Costco vouchers. As far as I know it works for ap's purchased through the site, though.

I purchased my AP online and was not able to enter the AP section of the site until my pass was activated.

I just bought one a couple weeks ago and I bought my Mickey's Halloween treat tickets a couple days later so I got access. I did go for the E-ticket option and the number under the bar code worked.

Thanks for all of the replies! :thumbsup2

I think I will go ahead and purchase it early so that I can have access to the AP website.

Does this activate the AP, I wonder??? :confused3 I hope not, I won't be going to DL until mid-August...I want to have as many days on AP that I can!

Thanks again everyone!

As far as I know, your AP won't officially be activated until you come to DLR and have your photo taken. It is basically a voucher you are holding onto before you get the photo taken.

And again, if, for some reason, you are one of the ones who cannot access the AP section of the DLR website after you get your voucher, you can PM me or just post here on the DIS and one of us can look up dates on the AP hotel calendar for you!:cool1:

(I hope your photo comes out better than mine - in my AP picture I look like Granny Goose! Somehow the quality is really grainy and it looks like I have black tar between my teeth and that I am 100 years old!!:rotfl2:)

Ugh!! Same with mine!! :rotfl:

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but FYI. ;) My AP expired March 2009 and I can still access the site. I keep expecting to be denied, but it still works. :confused3

Well, I guess I am glad I am not the only one with a horrible picture. Somehow, my friend's AP photo looks like a normal photo, but when they took mine they used the 'black tar effect.' They need to improve those cameras!

Oh good! Thanks for telling me that! I am hoping to not have to let the AP lapse before being able to renew - but just in case I do, I am glad that I will be able to access that section of the site fr at least a little while longer!

Sherry,

Thank you very much for the offer to look something up for me on the AP website! It sounds like I will be able to access it with my e-Voucher.

It make sense that my AP won't be activated until I show up at DL and use it for entry into the parks--just wanted to ask!

Thanks again!

You are welcome.:goodvibes If I am not mistaken, I think the way it works is that once you get the e-voucher, you are given a certain window of time in which to get to DLR to have the photo taken and get the AP activated, and then once it is activated, a year from that day of activation is what you have before it expires.

Does anyone know what this window of time is? I am thinking of purchasing APs for Christmas gifts, but we are not sure yet when we will actually be making it into the parks...Feb/Mar/June...waiting on rehab schedules and such. I can always do something else that tells the recipient their gift is an AP, but would be good to know how long one has to activate it.

I wish I knew. Hopefully someone else here will know. I seem to recall someone posted about this a long time ago - they wanted to order the AP online at a certain point but the time limit end date they had to activate it was going to come up sooner than when the trip to DLR was supposed to happen. So it may not be more than a couple/few months, but I could be wrong.
