Question about absentee ballot

Let's say you get an absentee ballot, mail it in on Oct. 30. You then die on Oct. 31. Should your vote count if you are not alive on election day?

Hearing about Senator Obama's grandmother dying and mailing in her absentee ballot made me think about this. Just curious??? BTW, my prayers are with the senator and his family at this time.

To even bring this up as a topic today IMO is in poor taste.

What about the soliders fighting over in Iraq and Afganastan ( I know I cannot spell it)

What if they voted, sent in their absentee and then died the next day.

Their vote shouldn't count. Come on now.

Of course her vote should count. I just wish my precious mother had lived to vote in this election as it was so very important to her. My vote had to be for both of us today. I was teary eyed at the polling place this morning.

Actually, I heard this happened on the local news this am. A man in Florida dropped off his absentee ballot before he went to the hospital for surgery. Sadly he did not survive. His vote will count because the ballot was post-marked before his death. I will try to find a link.

I am sorry about your mom.

Why is this in poor taste if I honestly have a question about it? :confused3 I never said the votes shouldn't count. It just made me think about something I hadn't thought of before and not because it had to do with Senator Obama, it was just what was reported this morning. It could have been anyone and I still would have wondered.

To the PP who said by law it counts, thank you. I guess it makes sense that as long as it is postmarked before your death, then it counts.
