I was wondering on average what the AAA discount is. Like would it be worth me paying the membership fee to get the discount??? We are going in July and staying at WL. Also, I have my reservation already booked, would I have to cancel and rebook through AAA or will Disney just apply the discount??

Thanks!!

We booked a room through AAA for WL and saved around $400. With membership at around $60/year, I think it's worth it, especially if you're going with deluxe resorts.

When are you going in July? Part of July is Value Season for Deluxes and part of the month is Regular Season. A AAA discount for Deluxes during Value Season is 15% off rack rate and for Regular Season it's 10% off.

Do you have a room-only ressie? If so, you can call Disney directly and ask for the AAA discount. If you want a package with a AAA discount on the room, you have to book through AAA. (Keep in mind that the AAA discount is subject to availability, so even though you already have a WL ressie, there may or may not be a discount available. It is certainly worth making a call to find out though!)

You might want to check out Mousesavers for more info: http://www.mousesavers.com/disneyresorts.html#AAA

As PP said, we have always found the cost of joining AAA well worth it when compared to the amount we save.

in one sense that is an easy question to answer in another very difficult.

AAA is a straight percent off your room or room portion of your package (discounts are not off your entire package). These percents are published well ahead of time for the entire year.

from mousesavers.com -
Value/Mod hotels 20% in value season; 15 percent in regular, summer, peak
Delux 15% in value, 10% in regular, summer, peak.

So to figure if it is worth it you need to know the season you are planning to travel, how long you will be there, what grade hotel you will be staying at - even what 'view' adds to the savings, and you need to know how much your membership will cost. It is pretty easy to make it atleast break even and count the fact that you have the other aaa benefits (reg aaa stuff, diamond card for sm. discount at DTD, diamond parking - closer spaces, story time etc) as your savings. Most likely you will save some.

Lets say the membership costs you $60
At a value hotel standard room -
value season save $18.45 per night - less than 4 nights to break even.
Regular season save $16.80 per night - less than 4 nights to
break even
Mod Hotel
value season $32.62per night - less than 2 nights to break even
regular season $27.84 per night - Just over 2 nights to break even
AKL
Value season 36.28 - Less than 2 nights to break even

As you can see it doesnt take long to break even. You almost definitely will save something unless you have a short stay at a value.

That was pretty generic I know. So you are staying in july at wl...what view? I dont know the rates there at that time of year and for your view. But to figure out what the aaa discount should be you can do the following Look up your rack rate per night on Disneyworld.com-

Rack rate X .9 X 1.125(tax) = AAA rate (with tax) per night
(Rack rate X .1 X 1.125 = aaa savings per night)

AAA rate per night X Number of nights = new total.

We are going July 12 - July 19 th. :)

We have everything booked through Disney, the room, tickets & the dining plan.

So is it worth the trouble of canceling everything getting the $$ back that we put down and rebooking??

You really should call a aaa agent (doesnt have to be your local agent you can use anyone).

They should be able to 'transfer' your reservation. I have no idea how it works. And I'd think it's worth the trouble. You may as well atleast see what they can / are willing to do for you.

Make sure you get one who is a disney specialist. Ask what they will do/charge if you need to make future changes etc. Make sure they are willing to work with you not just make the sell incase you have future issues (like a new code comes out or something).

You are in value season. Standard room would be 215/night +tax.
AAA rate saves you 36.28/night, Over 7 nights that is 253.97. So even after you pay for memebership that pushes 200 savings. And if you have a more expensive view the savings would be even greater.

Check your pm

I like booking through AAA. One agent to deal with all your questions/changes. Yeah - you probably know more about Disney than they do, but they are consistent.

The parking pass is helpful if you are driving to the parks during a busy time.

I use their credit card for my gas purchases and to pay for my trip. If you have their card it is always on file so its convenient to make your final payment. The best thing about that card is its no annual fee and you receive rebates periodically which can be applied to the final payment of your trip. I usually can save at least an extra $100 with my rebates.

One thing that I always tell people to keep in mind is that with every discounted rate, there are only a limited number of rooms available under the discount, and they don't always tell you that there are no more rooms for that rate. So it is possible that you'll call to book and it will be the same price that you would get going through WDW directly.

Can someone confirm if you can book vacation packages (including the dining plan) through AAA?

Thanks -- Kelly

Yes you can, but the AAA discount only applies to the room portion. I booked a MYW Package through AAA and contacted my TA last week about possibly adding the dining. She said it was no problem and that we had up until 48 days prior to our trip to add the dining. (If you book through WDW direct, it's a shorter window, but with AAA, you must pay in full 45 days out so that's why it's 48 days to add dining.)

It was worth it for us to book through AAA. We paid $46 for the membership to join. We're going Aug 5th for 8 nights at POP with dining for $2203. This is during Value season.

The package was $75 more, but by booking in January, we saved an extra $50 plus we also get a $25 Disney gift card when we check in.

The rooms were $82 during value season, but we got them for $65 with AAA's 20% off.

For us it was definitely worth it---between our Disney trip and a purchase at a local store we've saved $425 just in January alone. :cool1: Our AAA agent also said we could call and apply any codes (oh no, I said the dirty word) if something should come available during that time. No charges for changes or cancellations (we also took the insurance).
