When we bought AKL in 2009 a 2 BR SV in May (when we always like to go) was 35 points, 2010 is 39 points, and 2011 is 43 points. This is forcing us to consider adding on points or go every other year. Can this number just go up indefinitely. Can someone explain how that works?
Thanks!!

Total points at a resort cannot change. Shifting of points between seasons or nights of the week can change as long as any increase is met by a decrease elsewhere so that total points for the resort do not change. What happened in the last two years (the 2010 point chart change and the 2011 chart change) was mainly a significant shifting of points from weekend nights (Friday and Saturday night which decreased) to weekday nights (an increase) -- note that the total points for a full week in a 2BR SV at AKL in May basically stayed the same. Can there be further shifts in the future? Yes. Is there likely to be further shifting from weekend to weekdays? Likely not since it seems to now be at the level they wanted where weekend nights are no longer substantially higher than weekday nights. It was done because demand for weekday nights greatly outweighed demand for weekends.

i see that a 2 BR SV in May in 2009 was 70 points, 2010 is 59 points, and 2011 is 51 points. you should be asking if these numbers can just keep going down indefinitely... ;)

the point charts are fixed in total for the year...so if point costs go up for, say, weeknights and/or savanna view rooms, then they would have to go down for weekends and/or standard view rooms. if GVs come down, studios might get slightly more expensive...or if may gets more expensive then oct might have to get cheaper.

reallocation is discussed in a ton of detail in this thread.

The way I understand it is the TOTAL number of points for all room types throughout the year can never change (unless they add on more rooms to the physical building). How that total is allocated can change from year to year but is cannot vary in any one year by more than 15% (I think).

What has happened over the last few years is an effort to reduce the # points for Fridays and Saturdays and increasing the points for Sun - Thurs. Most of the weekly totals have not varied much.

It has been suggested in other threads that the total change desired by DVC varied by more than 15% therefore had to take place over two years.

Hope this makes sense.

The limit is 20% change per year.

Thanks so much. It looks like we won't see the jumps (maybe) that we've seen the last few years.
