Hi all. We are going to Disney next month. My dd's cousin will be going with us. He is going to be three in November, but is the size of my dd-she is 3 yr and 10 mo old. My dd is 41" tall and is tall for her age. He is skinny, but very tall. He may even be a 1/2" taller than her. His daddy is almost 7' tall, but mommy is very short. She is shorter than me(5'5")

I have always bought Kaylee a ticket to keep from being looked at( even before she had to have one ) She was as tall as a 3yr old when she was not even 2.

Here is my question

SIL does not want to purchase him a ticket. She dont have to, because he will not be three when we go, but he looks like he could be four because of his height. She said that last year they were looking at her and denied her entry from the MK because they did not have a ticket for him. They even had his BC and they still made her buy a ticket for him. So, she said she is not buying one until she is made to do so. I told her to go ahead and save the trouble. But is this fair? He is not three and last year they denied his BC? ( original short form was took to the park---not a copy ) Does this happen a lot? Who do we need to contact about this?

Thanks

I can't believe that even with a birth certificate, they denied him entry into the park. Are you sure she's not exaggerating?

I don't know what the age is to buy a ticket (I thought it was 3?). If he's under the proper age, I would not buy him a ticket. If he's the proper age, he will need a ticket. In any case,I would def. speak to a manager if he's denied access again. That doesn't sound very Disney-like to me.

If he isnt 3 yet then she doesnt need to purchase him a ticket. as long as he has a birth certificate they cant deny him. They might ask him how old he is and stuff but with the birth certificate they cant make him get a ticket.

my daughter is really tall and was 6 weeks short of turning 3 on our last trip. We were only questioned once and all we said she will be 3 in June and they let her go through. The entire time she was in the stroller...

Yeah, Sil is not one to make things up. I know that I told her to take his original Birth Cert. She said that the girl at the entry questioned her about him. She pulled out the BC and she sent her to the ticket counter. Amy asked for a manager, but they could not find one. The girl at the entry walked them over to the ticket counter and Amy said the girl from the entry told the man at the TC that her son was four and shorter than that. Amy spoke up and told her that children grow at different rated, and that his daddy was 7' tall. Amy then asked for a manager again, but one was not provided, and she was denied entry until she purchased a ticket. She did however file a complaint, but it never got dealt with. So, we dont know what to do.

When you say "short form" is that the one with the state's seal on it or the one from the hospital with the child's footprints? Just curious. I do know that the one with the state seal on it is a legal document and I find it unbelievable that they wouldn't accept that. Like a pp that is very un-Disneylike. I would still not buy him a tkt and take a copy of the state-sealed BC with you (I wouldn't want to risk losing the original). Maybe the CM's your SIL were dealing with were just a little overzealous? I hope that doesn't happen again. I guess be prepared to pay if you have to... but I certainly hope not. After all, if they wanted to charge by height instead of age, then that's what they should do. jmho.

Oh and btw if that happened to me, I'd be calling them every day when I got back to complain. They'd send me my money back just to shut me up. lol.

No way would I buy a ticket for a child that didn't need one. I also wouldn't let someone intimidate me into buying one I didn't need. She should take the birth certificate as proof.

ITA - and fwiw I have contacted WDW about issues smaller than this and gotten great results. If it were me I would make a copy of the ticket they were made to purchase and the childs BC and write a detailed letter with the dates and parks involved.

This trip bring a state issued ID or a BC for both 2yo's and if need be wait for a manager.

I'd contact Disney again NOW and get something in writing (I'd do email) indicating what your SIL's rights are and what the procedure is/should be. Should speed things up a bit.

Thanks guys for all the great ideas. Yes the short form from TN is a STATE SEALED DOCUMENT. It is a legal doc from our state you can get that is great compact size that is still sealed. The girl looked at it and said no way to SIL. The guy working the ticket counter said no way too. He said it looked like a forged document, and that all BC's were 8 x 11 1/2. SIL tried to argue the point with him. She even had him make a copy of it which showed the VOID all over it. You know the hidden image that only comes up when you copy. He then stated to her that she must have BORROWED some other persons childs BC. She was furious by this time and bought the ticket. She did write in but nothing has come of it. This was in Jan of this year.

Oh by the way we measured him last night. He is 2 1/2 inches taller than Kaylee. He is 43 1/2" tall and wont turn 3 until November 30th of this year. SIL said she will go to another line because it will look odd for Kaylee to have a ticket and be shorter. She said she will get bothered with this again if she dont.

What about travelling with a passport? It sounds like having the photo and the age on the same document would be a good idea. Surely even an over-zealous gate attendant isn't going to think that someone would get a forged passport just to avoid purchasing a WDW ticket!

We always travel with our passports, even when they're not really required, because they're the best form of I.D. (especially for our kids).

I agree with the other posters who suggest taking up the original issue, too. The passport will make your case even stronger. I'm not sure about the cost of getting a U.S. passport, but it's got to be cheaper than WDW admission!

Good Luck!

Very un-Disneylike. This merits a "letter to the president (of Disney)" specifically requesting a refund of the ticket in question plus a complimentary ticket of like kind as compensation for the runaround (you can think "for insult" but don't put those words in your letter).

The problem needs fixing even if you did not have a non-driver's license or a passport on the spot.

That CM would NOT have liked to have that encounter with me! :lmao:

I think getting him a passport is a great idea... because it's just good for everyone to have one... but the idea of paying $60 for the passport JUST to prove his age is angering to me.

Write letters! I hope SOMETHING comes of it! THe reading about it makes me so :furious:

That is horrible, my youngest will be shy of 3 by a couple weeks. I pray nobody does that to me, it would get messy..

Wow -- he's 43.5 inches tall and won't be 3 for another 3 months. He's going to be one tall person. My ds5 is on 45 inches and my dd2 (will be 3 the first week of December) is 35 inches.

I would not buy a ticket because he doesn't require one. I would argue it until they let him -- especially if you have his birth certificate. I agree with pp's about contacting someone about the previous ticket purchase/treatment as well.

Thanks guys!

I talked to my SIL she is going to take the short form BC and the long form BC ( original again ) She said this time she will not give into them. I guess it is hard for them to think he is that young being that tall. Like I said my SIL is not tall at all 5'3" or so. But this kids daddy is huge. He is around 7' if not over. So he is going to be a giant for sure, but with daddy not there for them to see, they think she is trying to pull a fast one. I also told her about the DVM state id. She said that is a great idea...

Hope no one else has this problem... :goodvibes
