I have been working on my next quest room and was wondering about a few things. Since there's more than one, I'm not trying to run a poll, but if you have the time to answer, any explanation of your preferences is greatly appreciated.

1. Do you prefer quests in which the first to finish wins the first prize or a quest in which the fastest times over a course of an hour or two wins the first prize?

2. Do the worth of the prizes affect your interest in a quest?

3. What tasks on a quest are your favorites?

4. What tasks on a quest do you generally really dislike?

5. What days/nights are best for trying out quests?

6. And finally, what would you like to see in a quest (apart from ultra rare prizes) in terms of length, difficulty, etc?

Thanks for your time!

1. Do you prefer quests in which the first to finish wins the first prize or a quest in which the fastest times over a course of an hour or two wins the first prize? I prefer prizes in fastest times - If giving prizes on first finish it isn't fair on people who come later paticularly if the better prizes wre first.

2. Do the worth of the prizes affect your interest in a quest?Kind of - Obviosuly I prefer quests with bigger prizes but I give just about any quest a go.

3. What tasks on a quest are your favorites? Multiple Choice/Say Answer

4. What tasks on a quest do you generally really dislike? Making a friend - If the list is full it is a waste of time finding someone to delete and then someone to add.

5. What days/nights are best for trying out quests? From the quest makers point of view - a weekend more people online to do it. From a quest players point of view - a week day less people to compete with.

6. And finally, what would you like to see in a quest (apart from ultra rare prizes) in terms of length, difficulty, etc? I like a medium difficulty quest or a difficult quest as long as the answers can be found using the internet. A long quest to stop me from getting bored is cool.

1. I prefer fastest time as it is much fairer.

2. Not really unless the prize is an NPC pin

3. Find an item,Dance,Wave,

4. Making Friends takes far too long

5. Weekends are best when most people are on.

6. Medium Difficulty and Medium Length

4. What tasks on a quest do you generally really dislike?

- dancing [it makes me lag] and using magic [i tend not to wear those pins unless i need them]

5. What days/nights are best for trying out quests?

- any day for me :)

6. And finally, what would you like to see in a quest (apart from ultra rare prizes) in terms of length, difficulty, etc?

1. I prefer questsin which the prizes are awarded to the people with the fastest times over a period of time

2. Not really, I mainly do quests with themes I like however if there are some cool prizes it brings my patience level up :rotfl:

3. I like dancing :dancer: I also like saying things as long as the sayings are there for you to type and not guess (unless you say something like 'What colour are Mickey's shoes etc)

4. Making friends- It takes TOO long and using magic that not many people have e.g. inferno... ok... um... teleportation magic :teleport:

5. Probably weekends but it depends what times, so in other words... anytime!

6. I would like to see quests which are sort of like a story and have an interesting theme with a decorated room (in the theme). I also like quests that rhyme :rotfl2: It shows you've put even more work into your quest :thumbsup2

2. Do the worth of the prizes affect your interest in a quest? As long as it isn't something everyone gets for free I don't care. If it is a 25 credit pin I will be happy.

3. What tasks on a quest are your favorites? Usually trivia or find the items.

4. What tasks on a quest do you generally really dislike? Along with everyone else, making friends. I usually just quit the quest when one of those pop up.

5. What days/nights are best for trying out quests? Any time for me, I don't have a life. XP

6. And finally, what would you like to see in a quest (apart from ultra rare prizes) in terms of length, difficulty, etc? Originality and medium/difficult quests are nice if the answers can be found on the internet, but those are best for fastest person wins quests I think.
Thanks for your time!

2. Do the worth of the prizes affect your interest in a quest? Quests are fun, I really could care less about prizes LOL.

3. What tasks on a quest are your favorites? Saying Answer, Multiple Choice, Going Places.

4. What tasks on a quest do you generally really dislike? Finding Item..I can never do it fast enough :goodvibes

5. What days/nights are best for trying out quests? Any day for me haha.

6. And finally, what would you like to see in a quest (apart from ultra rare prizes) in terms of length, difficulty, etc? Just something fun, and your's are always fun!

1. Do you prefer quests in which the first to finish wins the first prize or a quest in which the fastest times over a course of an hour or two wins the first prize?
both have good and bad points for me. For the fastest time type: negative - if it is a really short quest where seconds count, my computer is not fast enough to be competitive (example is a quest that takes under 2mins, with only top 5 given prizes). Those are just a prize gift to the person with the best computer. Positive - if it is a reasonable length quest, there is a chance of getting a better prize.
for the prize awarded as finish type: negative - if you come later then the best prizes may already been awarded. positive - you know when you start it you will get some prize. From a makers standpoint, you have to have good prizes and a lot, or ppl won't even bother with this type of quest.

2. Do the worth of the prizes affect your interest in a quest?
Yes, if they are not worth the time I'll put into it, I'll pass. If I'm going to spend 30 minutes on something, it needs to be for a chance of a decent prize. If it is only a 5 minute or less quest, I might do it just anyways if there are moderate prizes beyond the first 5 places.
3. What tasks on a quest are your favorites?
I prefer find an item(s), but not necessarily in the owners quest room where too many ppl are blocking them. I like multi choice, as long as a wrong answer doesn't drop you back to a task that you can't go back to because you have changed to a different room.
4. What tasks on a quest do you generally really dislike?
being told to sit in a room without chairs, questions about personal information of owner (like what is my favorite color, what pin do i have on), saying something that is too difficult to know (& not findable on the internet) especially if it is dictionary dance/or owner misspelled.
Minigames. I want to know before starting a quest if a mini game has to be played and which one and if high score/low score expected, I'm not always up for that.
finding a ghost NPC. Their timing of appearance is just too random. If I'm on a quest that will be the time when Gus takes several minutes to appear.
5. What days/nights are best for trying out quests?
no opinion on this one
6. And finally, what would you like to see in a quest (apart from ultra rare prizes) in terms of length, difficulty, etc?
I especially like the creative theme or story ones. Length, maybe 7-10 minutes average, longer if especially good prizes. Difficulty not just give away, but you have to think about answer or look for that item. Not repeative, same task over and over.

Thanks for the replies, keep 'em coming!

I'm already tweaking some things thanks to this feedback.

1. Do you prefer quests in which the first to finish wins the first prize or a quest in which the fastest times over a course of an hour or two wins the first prize?
I prefer "first to finish wins" quests better because as someone said, I'm guaranteed a prize when I start. I guess because I'm new, I don't mind getting inexpensive things that everyone is sick of getting (unless it's NPC pins or Terabithia treehouses). These work better when the quests are difficult (ie. hiding items in really obscure places) because it make take people a lot of time to complete a task. However, on shorter quests, the fastest times works better because you really have to be on your toes. I personally think that if you want to give REALLY good prizes, you should do a timed quest because then a lot of people will have the chance to get it. Today I was trying to get a Madhatter's Hat in a "first to finish" quest and I was almost finished and someone else got it and I just quit the quest because that was the second to last prize and the one I wanted.

2. Do the worth of the prizes affect your interest in a quest?
I do searches for quests throughout the day to check what prizes are being offered. If the prizes aren't good (ie. things that everyone gets when signing on like VMK t-shirts), I usually don't bother doing it. Other than that, I like winning anything! It's fun to get that "Congratulations" message. However, it's not so much the worth in general in terms of credits or rarity but worth in terms of my own opinion. Something that isn't seen as a good prize to some can be something I really hope to get!

3. What tasks on a quest are your favorites?
I like saying things out loud, especially trivia questions (but like someone said, not so difficult that I can't find the answer online if I don't know it) but as a suggestion, you might want to send people to other places to answer questions because otherwise someone gives all the answers to someone else just waiting in the room. I like searching for items, especially when it's a little bit more difficult (put in corners instead of dead-center of the room) but if they're all really difficult to find, it can get frustrating (like when the items can't even be seen). Multiple choice questions are really good too.

4. What tasks on a quest do you generally really dislike?
I personally don't like Pirates at all! Usually when it is required, I quit the quest. I've played it a few times but only when it's "first to finish" quests because when it comes to time, it takes a while to find a group of people to play with. I also don't like it when they require you to say their name on VMK when they're not in the room or you're not their friend because it always comes out ###. I've done quests where that was the last task and I had to quit because I just couldn't say it.

5. What days/nights are best for trying out quests?
Anytime is fun. People who like quests search for them whenever they're on. Personally, I'd prefer not late at night because that's when more people are on and when I get to a room where there's dancing or movement required, I get a lot of lag.

6. And finally, what would you like to see in a quest (apart from ultra rare prizes) in terms of length, difficulty, etc?
Medium difficult and medium length, in general. If it is more of a trivia/question quest, it can be longer. I personally like Disney quests. Quests with themes show me that the author spent time making it and makes me more inclined to do the "Contact Us" thing. I also like quests that test if you know VMK by giving a hint/clue about a room or showing a picture and telling you to go there. It's easier for those who know VMK but also not impossible for newcomers as they will eventually find the room if persistent. Quest tasks like those actually made me notice the background in VMK and how much detail is put into each room.

I've had my own preferences after running a quest.

I think timed quests are fairer, and I always put any "good" items after
the 5th prize, so that people don't know exactly which time to beat to get
any "good" prizes. People will still send their mules to play, but it comes
with the territory.

I think the worst task ever is "make a new friend". Doing mini-games or
magic can be evil, too. I made my quests without those attributes so it'll
be easy enough for younger kids to do it and still have fun.

I agree with everything goldengourd says, but would like to add more.

4. I've done several quests that had a task at the end to go back to the owners room, but the owner was no longer on VMK, so I couldn't finish the quest.

5. I did a quest on a weekend. On Friday night, experienced VMK players did it. I answered some questions, but not constantly. On Saturday, there was a huge amount of brand new players. I had to keep explaining how to do a quest, how they would know if they win something, etc. Also, when the quest timer stopped, I had everyone in the room complaining because they wanted to do the quest and they said that I needed to turn it back on for them. Of course, I would have had to load it with prizes again to start it over. Then a VMK host came in. It was chaos. I couldn't talk fast enough to explain to everyone.

I agree with this too. I once started a quest where one of the tasks was to do inferno! What a waste of time!

Very good thread! Definitely information to keep in mind when creating a quest.

Well most have said what I think. I will not do quests with only five prizes. Not worth the effort. Even if they are great prizes. My computer is too slow. When I do my quest I go with when you finish only because I want to make sure everyone gets a prize. Though I do like the fastest time if there are at least 50 prizes. There is a high chance I will get a prize for my effort.

I hate pirates. I also believe that if you have a semi difficult quest you should be in the room to offer suggestions. Not the answer but ideas of what the clue says.

Making a friend is a waste of time and is wrong in so many ways. Deciding to make a friend for a game and then deleting them is mean and cruel.

The type of prizes do influence me a bit. If it is a long time of quest say 10 minutes and the prize is a crate I will not do it. Unless it is one of my friends and I am trying the quest out for them.

Also so important. I did a quest where you had to go to different rooms to answer a questions. But in the rooms there were teleporters to take to another room.

I went through the wrong one and ended up in the wrong room I could not get back. (they had a start piece at the teleporter thus making it one way only.) The only way was to start the quest again and I was not going to spend another 15 minutes riding their ride. It was a very good quest. But that was a big big flaw.

Also I think the time quest should be a reasonable time I hate quests that lasts 18 hours. I think 4 to 6 hours is fair.
