Queen Elizabeth funeral and looking forward

This makes me wonder how quickly her portrait will be replaced around the world, since it hangs in so many places. Does the new king have a formal portrait taken right away? Or do they simply take down the old and have nothing new until much later? So many things to take care of normally after a death of a loved one, and this is like that only magnified 1000%.

I heard she had four dogs left. I wonder who gets them? I was thinking about her horses as well. I always think it’s sad when the pets outlive their human. I believe the family as a whole loves animals, so I am sure they will be provided for, but they would also be a living link to the family member they lost making them extra special.
I can’t answer that, but I suppose after a respectable period of mourning, her portraits on currency and postage stamps, as well as in many other places, will be replaced by portraits of King Charles. Maybe six months to a year?

I did read that the stamps will be done quickly, the article said no more stamps with Elizabeth would be printed. They did also say money would be a gradual thing and could phase in over several years.

I agree....also don't agree with imperial rule, but as you've said....we can all step back and admire her grace, dignity and steady leadership presence that she provided for seventy years. I had to stop looking at twitter yesterday because there were just so many mean and awful comments.

One interesting comment that I heard yesterday was that the Queen never gave an interview. She commented within documentaries and things, but never gave a formal official interview on camera. A big part of the reason that she was so respected was that there was a bit of a mystery about her, and she was truly a vault...she didn't speak out of turn....and the world didn't know her personal thoughts on many things. That's the problem for Charles....we've seen him for decades and do know many of his opinions....etc. I've seen him say that he won't give those opinions as sovereign....but the cat is kind of out of the bag. Same will hold true for William. There can't be a mystery about them....opinions are formed.
Never complain, never explain.” While it may not have been her official motto, it certainly does seem to have governed her conduct. Frustrating at times for many, to be sure, but always maintaining dignity. I think about it, as a concept, often myself. Especially in these current times when everyone demands to be heard and to have their every thought and feeling validated. :scratchin

Andrew is taking the dogs, he had given her one or two(?) As one of the dogs had died recently.

And I think replacing portraits will happen quicker than you think. Here in the Netherlands I think it was within weeks. But then again, we had an abdication and we could prepare.

I am pretty sure the dogs and horses will be "given" to either family or household staff. I assume here that her dogs have a minder that did most of the walking/feeding. So I could see them staying with them or I know Anne is a big Corgie fan. Their estates are bascially working farms so I can see the horses just staying put..

I heard on one of the channels yesterday that King Charles has already sat for the money part a while ago but not the stamp yet.

That was for a commemorative coin to celebrate his 70th birthday. The Royal Mint have said they don't now what portrait will be used yet.

I have just read that the Queen first appeared on a bank note in 1960 which was 8 yrs after she became Queen.

Stamps and passports will be the first to show change

Jeez, I can’t imagine they’d make him sit for pictures on one of the saddest days of his life when he presumably looked like crap! Oops ok, I see the pp said “a while ago”. My bad. (Time for more coffee. :coffee: )

I would think that the various official pictures & portraits of the Queen would remain in place until she is laid to rest. They would probably be draped with black bunting or something similar.

To prepare for the death of the Queen, Charles probably already had official pictures taken. Those pictures would have been printed, framed, and packaged, prior to the Queen's passing. All that would be needed now is to ship the pictures to the various points around the world.

They've had years, even decades, to have everything ready and put into place.

That makes total sense.

GMTA. My thinking exactly.

It's not made public for obvious reasons, but I'd not be surprised but what official pictures of the Heir are taken every so often "just in case." That's particularly so once the monarch gets beyond a typical lifespan.

The monarchy is so experienced at managing these transitions smoothly, I'm sure they've every detail long since planned. Reportedly, Queen Elizabeth has had the list of guests to be invited to her funeral ready for some time.

They probably just go to JCPenney Portraits every year when the Christmas coupons come out. 😁

Heck, even as a lowly US military officer, I had to get official photos taken regularly.

Well that changed quickly - our provincial court system.

Court of King's Bench

The Court of King’s Bench of Manitoba is the highest trial court for the province. It is a court of general and inherent jurisdiction, meaning the judges of the court hear cases of all kinds and possess powers that go beyond what is conferred on them by statute. The judges are federally appointed pursuant to the Judges Act.

The flag representing the Queen and her passing, which had been flying at half staff over Buckingham Palace since her death has been lowered, and the Royal Standard flag representing King Charles is at Buckingham Palace is now flying at full staff over the Palace.

This was done when King Charles & Camilla came outside, in front of Buckingham Palace and greeted and shook hands with well wishers and mourners for a good 15 minutes.

A spontaneous, "God Save the King," broke out among the crowd for him, for the first time.

The King has entered the building. (No, I'm not talking about Elvis. ;) )

Black bunting has been draped on her portraits in official buildings here.
Picture of it being done in link plus info on how the protocol is laid out to handle the death.
