The authors are going out of their way to be offended.

But it can’t really be denied that the Ukrainian situation is receiving so much attention because it’s mainly a white European country.

I do not know if I fully agree with that last statement. I was too young to fully be up to date on the news when Yugoslavia happened, but was that also such world news? That was Europe, those people were white. Same with the annexatie of the Crim.

It will be part of it, no doubt, but I think more that it is the amount of force by Putin, who is a real threat to the rest of the Western world. It was a wake up call. And probably also shame because we tolerated Putin's behaviour for a long time and constantly said that he is not that bad.

And also Ukraine's reaction influenced how we treat it. Ukraine fights back with passion and is led by a passionate leader. Ukraine wants to become part of the EU and NATO. That all makes that we say: we want to help.

If these things were all absent, the West would have reacted differently.

Bit let's keep the Ukraine topic in one thread and the royal family discussions in this one.

Luckily for William Harry is giving a nice distraction by signing a letter against the UK governments vaccine monopoly (not very smart if you are also suing that government) and Harry will not fly out to be present at Prince Phillip's memoriam service (he is apparently smart enough to realize that will hurt his court case, but on the other hand a few weeks later he will visit The Netherlands ).

And as for Camilla, she did mention after her last covid infection she still has a cough. Let's hope she fully recovers.

I would be very surprised if those two stay together. Most people don't anyway. And they have so many unusual challenges, and she has such a history of needing change, and he's apparently a hot head. If I were a betting person....

This is sweet. I hope they're as happy and at peace with one another as they look. This tour was actually referred to as a "Charm Offensive" to endear the Crown to the Caribbean Commonwealth nations, which doesn't seem to have worked. William made a speech (and one wonders if it was written on-the-fly once things started heading south) acknowledging the nations likely eventual succession, and basically gave them the Crown's blessing.

It doesn’t seem like the trip was well thought out by their people. But William responded really well and showed that he is a forward thinker. Some wish things would just skip to him instead of Charles, who’s shown himself to be a bit of a loose cannon these past few years. Time will tell. Hopefully Queen Elizabeth will be able to make it to Prince Phillip’s memorial this week given her recent mobility issues. I agree there were some really nice moments between William and Catherine.

It would be so hard to do what those two just did. They stayed gracious through the entire ordeal. It seems like their advance team really let them down. I mean, why was Kate seated next to an unfriendly beauty queen? Surely unfriendly people shouldn’t have been placed in close proximity— for safety if for no other reason.
I really liked following Kate’s clothing. So many beautiful dresses. She’s pretty darn amazing.

I highly doubt safety was an issue and even the Cambridges need to be able to take not being roundly adored. It won't have left any permanent scars.
