Quarantine Update?

Just read on the AP board on the same topic that someone called the Florida number and they told them to watch the website because the states needing to quarantine is expected to change real quick. Also legal question of tri-state area as central ny where I live is not considered tri-state area

I believe Florida will remove what you consider to be a "legal question."

They will remove the term "tri-state area" and just list NY, NJ, and CT and that will solve the non-problem.

I would think most likely they will shift to a logical case number based system like VT, ME, NJ, NY, and CT. This will at least protect Florida from an influx of places that are currently raging with corona. Right now its a free for all from those places....

So your still in favor of good states being restricted and having free flow into FL from currently covid ravaged states?

YIKES!
No I was just joking. I just get amused by posters whose lives are destroyed by impediments to their Disney vacations.

Regardless of which state you talk about, or which decision any governor makes, we DIS-geniuses will dissect it and find a million things wrong. Any anonymous Internet poster can criticize after the fact -- and it's especially easy when we have no responsibility for the decision or impacts of the decision.

Governors of all states, and all political parties, use the best information they have at the moment and make the best decisions they can to protect their citizens. They all take those decisions very seriously, and they make them with good will and the best of intentions. Some of the decisions are pretty straightforward; other times they are very, very difficult and with no good options. Sometimes the impacts are trivial. Other times (like NY's decisions to move covid patients to long-term care facilities), the impacts are widespread.

But they do the best they can with a no-win situation -- knowing that they are going to be ridiculed by people with no real understanding of the issues and no skin in the game.

Ahh, OK. Your sarcasm did not translate to the interwebs.

All you said above is true but the delay in not putting the current hotspots on the FL list should be very very disturbing to any FL resident. Other states put the hotspots on the list over 2 weeks ago.

If you honestly believe that every governors decision is made for the good of the people and has no political or personal agendas attached then please stay on the Disney boards because the real world will destroy you

I think it's a matter of priorities, and if you look at Florida's actions in the context of NY's actions, you'll see that both governors are doing about the same thing. The main difference is that the situations are reversed.

When NY's cases were soaring and hospitals were being overwhelmed, the governor did not waste his time worrying about who to admit to New York state. He rightfully focused on a) the most pressing problems, and b) the problems where, as governor, he had the authority to act.

Governors are not kings; they have limits on their authority and those limits vary greatly from state to state. In addition, most of New York's local officials focused on the right things and did what they thought best within the parameters of their authority. Not all, unfortunately, but most.

Now, New York's cases have moderated a great deal and they want to keep it that way, so they have instituted travel restrictions on states with high infection rates.

When Florida had low case rates, we wanted to keep it that way, so we instituted travel restrictions on states with very high infection rates.

Now we are having high infection rates, but not so much from intrastate travel -- most of our new cases are coming from young people. In fact, in the last two weeks Florida's median age for covid patients has dropped from 49 years of age to 39 years of age -- and that's on a sample size of more than 200,000 cases, so not a trivial number of young people caused that huge drop.

So now, Florida is doing the same thing NY did. Our governor, and local officials, are working on the most pressing problems...and not wasting their time on less important things like travel restrictions.

I beg to differ. NY instituted a quarantine based on scientific data that applies to all states. FL governor instituted a quarantine for the "tri-state area" and left it in place for months regardless of scientific data, while allowing other states with higher infection levels to roam free within your state. Two different approaches, totally different. NY's approach will be effective against the virus, FL's approach will be effective against the tri-state residents.

Okay, we disagree. That's what discussion boards are for.

You're leaving out one important "agenda".... economy. Florida's main industry is tourism, I believe, and they are not going to willingly shut the door for the millions or more in income from tourists from states that should be put on the quarantine list. They're going to hold out as long as they can, IMO, before shutting that door. I admit to not being up to date with travelers from other countries into the US, but not having them here due to border closures will impact Florida's tourism and expected income. Florida needs tourists for their main industry.

The tri state area was put on Florida's list when a lot was shut down across the country, including Disney which is a big tourism draw for Florida. Now everything is open or opening and cases are escalating. I do think they'll be forced to deal with it eventually.

The current and continued quarantine for travelers from up here doesn't make sense and we don't know the reason, but don't discount the economic impact that will happen if suddenly millions (?) can't travel into Florida.

Yesterday I jokingly asked if you were a politician, now I think your double talk has confirmed it. You recently said that a traveler from NYC infected your Covid free FL oasis and now you say that interstate travel is not the problem. Which the heck is it???????

That was a single anecdote about what can, and did, happen.

Fortunately for the entire planet, I am not in charge of developing anybody's covid policies.

Has anyone who has filled out the form after they flew into Florida been called or contacted? If you say you are going straight to Disney World, what do they say?

we filled out the form when we drove to St Augustine. No one ever called or contacted us in anyway. We were there for 11 days
