I am not a fan of lobster rolls. My younger DS told me his friend is on the Cape and loves lobster rolls. The going price is anywhere from $30 to $50. His friend went to a restaurant and wanted stuffed lobster. The price listed was market price. He asked the price: $75. He had the baked stuffed shrimp instead.

Good evening.

Rainy day here. Did a lot of nothing. I did make French toast and bacon for breakfast, baked a blueberry cake, did three load of wash, and finished my book, so not a total loss.

Lots of beach talk earlier. I love the beach, or any waters edge. Usually in February we have to make a trip to the ocean to get a fix. I am lucky we live so close. Tomorrow we are going to Mayo Beach Park and meeting both kids and their families there. It is on the Chesapeake Bay. And it is the venue where DS and DDIL got married.

Also a lot of seafood talk. I like pretty much all seafood and the lobster roll is making me drool. When we went to Maine last September, one of DD's goals was to have a lobster roll, and she did. So did I.

The hummingbird keeps visiting my feeder but I can never get a picture.

Skipping church tomorrow because of the above beach trip but will watch later.

Have a good evening.

It rained just about all day here in Cape May. It was a good day for unpacking and then gathering things to take with us on our next trip.

We need someone to water the garden, feed the fish, birds, (squirrels) and then one day water my indoor plants and bathe my orchids. That probably means we’ll be asking three people for help.

Today our first water Lily bloomed. They were not fertilized properly this spring, I am happy to see this.

They run about $30 here, but it's just not the same. I don't want to go to a fancy sit down restaurant to get a lobster roll. I want the fast and casual place with a side of fries and coleslaw. Simply prepared and fresh and delicious!

Chesapeake Bay Blue Crabs fresh from the water, cooked and liberally sprinkled with Old Bay seasoning are what people eat here. And those are expensive also. I'm not a big crab fan but I've come to enjoy having crabs with friends from time to time.

I saw lobster meat at the supermarket today for $49.99/lb! 😳

Tonight we did some cheeseburger sliders and sausage pepper and onions, along with a caprese salad.

I bought some steaks for tomorrow. Probably with a baked potato, corn on the cob (going to try cooking it in the oven with husks on, which I’ve read is a good way to do it) and we have some Kentucky Wonder string beans ready in our garden, yum! (My favorite are the Italian pole beans but we couldn’t find any this year. Boo! Hiss!)

Good evening Quackers. Just checking in to say "hey". I don't have much to report.

@Kirby I hope your daughters new attorney is just what she needs.

We have a big week next week that is going to require me to be around a lot of people from our community for the entire week. My husband will also be at this event off and on and I am asking for prayers that I can make it through without having a stroke. It's an event that already causes me a lot of anxiety, and this year the stress is amplified to the max. It's for my kids, otherwise I'd just not go, but I really don't hav a choice. It will just be really hard since all his "supporters" will be there and in general it's more of his thing than mine.

Hold your head up and act like you own the place, frog.
I agree!

No news here since my last post either. I'm definitely a fan of seafood, but haven't checked lobster roll prices anywhere lately. (I do like them, though, and usually get one some time in the summer.)

Last night I made stuffed peppers for dinner, and put together some chicken-broccoli-ziti that DS can heat up on his late work nights. Today we're hoping to go see the "new" Jurassic Park movie, depending on what time DH gets home from a planning meeting for the lodge flea market.

That was our rough plan yesterday, never made it though. Today we are off running a bunch of shopping errands, Cabelas, Costco, Home Goods, Target and wherever else the wind blows us. Then we will head up to PHL to pick up my mother who is coming in for 10 days.

I REALLY want a Lobster Roll now!!!!!!!!!!!

We can find whole live lobster in tanks but I've never seen just lobster meat here. We always see the frozen lobster tails but I don't bother with them. I'm past cooking my own lobster. I've done it many times in the past but I just don't want to bother anymore.

I bought corn on the cob here last weekend. It's in the husks in the store and there's a trash can to clean it if you want. I did most of it right there, still had a few strings to pull off at home. I just boil it in salty water for about 5-7 minutes depending on how quick I get back to the pot. I was reading and saw a recipe for using milk and butter while boiling it. Probably won't try that as it sounds like a mess to clean up. I have roasted it in the husks on the barbecue while camping and that was good, but everything cooked while camping tastes great!

There's always Mason's and I have eaten there in both Annapolis and National Harbor, but they cook their lobster in Maine right after it's caught, so never tastes exactly right, sort of like frozen lobster or canned lobster (which I never see around here). Doesn't taste bad, just not the same as what I really want which is fresh and hot from the shell after a salty boil.

Oh, and I'm not a fan of steamed lobster either - too mushy in my opinion.

Good morning all. I tried to get on earlier, but kept getting some weird error. Guess it was on their end since it's fine now. Going to be mid to upper 80's again before it goes to the 90's tomorrow. I plan on changing the oil in the tractor today while it's still cool out. A little nervous about it. I have always changed the oil in the push mower, this one just seems more complicated since it's got an oil filter in it too. I hope the kid next door (the good side kid), is home, just in case I run into problems.

@frog3101 I whole heartedly agree with what pea-n-me said above. Hold yourself above all of 'his' supporters, and know that your entire Quacker family is here supporting you too. It won't be easy, but you can do it!

Off to get that oil changed, wish me luck, lol!
Have a nice Sunday morning.

Success is the best revenge, right? ;) Act like you don’t have a care in the world, you’re doing great, maybe even find a cute single to flirt work with. Why should he get to have all the fun? (I think I would find this a personal challenge.)

I took a pic of the lobster meat in the supermarket yesterday. I don’t recall seeing it sold this way in a supermarket before, only a seafood store. (I bought some shrimp for myself as I had some cocktail sauce left over from my meal the other night, which only had two shrimp, but I much prefer to buy it raw and cook it myself, it has a better texture that way.) I’ve never cooked lobster. I couldn’t do it. A lot of our neighbors have lobster traps. It’s just not our thing.

I‘ve been getting a lot of cooking ideas on Instagram and I’ve read that cooking the corn that way (in the oven) is really easy, and that it comes right out of the husk without strings (can’t think of what you call that on corn right now, lol) if you cut the bottom off. We’ll see how it goes!

You’re in luck! I found some places that will deliver it next day! Maybe give it a try!

@Pea-n-Me When I was younger, I always wanted a vacation to a beach. We lived in Colorado, and our vacations were always camping trips to the mountains, and I was so jealous of people on beaches! DH grew up near a beach almost his whole life. Now that we live in FL, and are about an hour from beaches....we don't go! We've gone to the beach maybe 12 times total in the almost 15 years we've lived here! Part of the reason we don't go is because it's safer for DH to stay out of the sun, with the immunosupprescents, he's more prone to skin cancer; but also it's just a pain to pack the car, go, haul everything down to the beach, keep an eye on it while doing stuff, then haul it back to the car, clean it before getting in the car, get home, unload, clean everything better, and clean the car! It's so much work! Now, I'm all, let's not go camping (just as much work, if not more, as going to the beach...let's just go stay in a hotel and eat out! :rotfl2:
Ain’t that the truth! It’s why we got a pool! :lmao: We do have some drive-on beaches in our area and that was cool, you can keep everything in the car and that makes it somewhat easier. But those got expensive and crowded once everyone started buying SUVs. My DH and his brothers had Jeeps back in the 70s before most others did and there was no one around the beaches then. They had a summer cottage steps from the beach so DH knew all the ins and outs of them. I still remember the first time he took me driving on the open beach and how much I loved it! We bought our first Jeep together in the early 80s and it was so much fun. But by the late 80s, early 90s, everyone else got the idea, too, and it wasn’t as much fun anymore. We had to pull a newbie out of the sand almost every time we went down there, and suddenly you could barely move.

When my twins were little I did the ‘pack everything up and go to the beach down the street’ and it was a lot! But the big thing was that my little, at the time 3yo DD (Pea or Peanut, where my username comes from), would get nervous if anyone was in the water! She’d cry and yell for them to get out 😳 which caused a lot of stress for me! That’s when we got our first pool and life became a lot easier recreation-wise. We still love to walk the beach (especially when no one’s around) and the boys here boat and fish and all that (DH and DS drive by the water once or more daily to check conditions and give eachother updates, it’s funny), and they fly-fish all over the area, even from land, bays and rivers, etc. We can smell ocean in the air (which sometimes makes DD sick if it’s too strong, she is NOT a seafood person!) and when it’s quiet at night we can hear the waves from our house. I like listening to them when I’m out on my screened porch. But swimming in the ocean or spending a day at the beach in the hot sun isn’t something I love.

These were our cheeseburger sliders (super easy - hamburger sautéed with onion, Hawaiian rolls cut in half, meat put on, then cheese, brushed w butter and baked for 15 mins or so, separated after cooking) and our usual caprese salad. DH said next time he might try to cook one big hamburger. These were a big hit w the kids (my two plus DD’s bf).

QOTD: How do you cook your corn on the cob?

Inspired by the conversation above.

Generally we cook it in water. We add one teaspoon of lemon juice and one teaspoon of sugar. Bring to boiling, then shut water off and let it sit for 20 mins or so. Comes out crispy and tasty.

Tonight we’re going to try a new way I read about online: baking with husk on, then cutting the bottom off and supposedly the corn slides right out. We’ll see. Stay tuned.

Just spent hours rearranging my trip to the beach last week of the month.

Son in law asked me to look for State Park camping dates for him. Of course, if you've ever camped in Maryland you know that the time to book a site was when the window opened.

I gave it a try anyway and couldn't find more than 2 nights together at his chosen park and mostly one nighters.

So, I texted and asked if he'd like a night at the beach. I did this after DD told me he wanted to take the girls yesterday and asked her yesterday morning to look for something. Nothing like last minute expectations! I told him I had a night booked if he would like to come and bring the girls, while DD is away in Alaska - another story. Note I said 'in Alaska'.

The reality was I had 5 nights booked but was going by myself, as I knew DD would be leaving end of the month and I would be babysitting then.

So now, trip includes grands and their dad. He will come the first night on the weekend which is an oceanfront room at Hyatt now. Then I move to a bayside room in the North end for the next 2 nights. Both are on points, as I collect them for this purpose. I'm half thinking of making it one night bayside. Still have time. I will do some thinking.

One plus of the North end is getting Uber bagels. They are very good, except for the ridiculous long line to buy them.
