Just waiting for my ride home now. It's 92 out. Good news is that hubby has till next Tuesday before discharge . They realize how hard he's working, but also realizes he needs more time here. There was a big sigh of relief when I saw the discharge date on the big hall board. Even though I miss him being home, I know he needs more time to get his leg strength back.

I am very relieved to hear he has another week to continue PT and OT. Good news!

:grouphug:Snowysmom and extra love, too.

 Carol. ITA with everything you shared about your Grace. That was exactly how I felt about Champ! I just wanted him back and healthy not a substitute or worse replacement. Honestly though, even the thought of getting another dog was not even on my radar for many years. I know part of that was because I had returned to Northern, CA the following year to teach. The other reason was how could Dad and I ever have another dog in this small apartment were Champ once lived? Plus, of course, this small (no outdoor space) apartment truly would not be fair to a new dog, particularly a younger one. Over the years, it really has come to bring me comfort to look at one day adopting another dog as something I am able to do for Champ in his honor.

:cheer2:That is wonderful news, Lynn! Huge hug and I extra pray you can truly enjoy some R&R now!

@ Breezy_Carol When we came home yesterday after everything I had to put away his bowls, throw out all his meds and food, hide the treats, pick up the pee pads we had down, put away his bed, and put away his sweater and coats. He was a fashion plate who always looked dapper in the cold weather. People would always comment on his coat or sweater. We have a chair in the living room that was his (and it was our late Westie Snowy's chair before him) where he slept and barked out the window. It is staying there as it does give me some comfort. I like to imagine he is laying there visiting us. There is a pillow on it that says Peace. It seems appropriate.

Snowysmom -

On our farm we have a huge beech tree, under which my BIL's two ferrets rest, along with the urns of three of one of my elderly aunts cats (she thought, when she had to move from her apartment, that the cats would "like it at the farm" instead of her new place:o even though they'd been in urns for several years!) We also laid to rest a barn cat or two there, and one of the horses from next door isn't to far away. I always planned to place our dogs there, but to this day they are in their urns, in a box at the bottom of my closet. I see the box. I ignore it. It's been 4 & 5 years since they passed and I'll be damned if I still can't even bring myself to put them under the tree.
I can well remember what it's like to come home, house empty. Picking up toys and putting away bowls. Hauling the dog beds out to the barn for the cats. My last two who passed were old, and suffering severe health issues at end the cropped up pretty quick. It took a bit of the sting out of it in the immediate hours and day after, I knew I did the right thing. But long term I still played a cruel mind game with myself of " what if ".
I hope your memories bring you comfort.

I know we did the right thing for Jasper. He was old and not having quality of life anymore. He was so sick and so suddenly. But if I look back a bit I can see that he was getting slower and a bit ill. I just need to get try to get to a good place where I can think of all the good times with him. He was a character and a sweetie. He was a handful and a half sometimes but he was not mean spirited. Here is a picture of my little guy. 20200930_143748 (8).jpg

handsome indeed!

Cute pup @Snowysmom. Something we did right after our last two passed was write a list of things to remember about them. Here is a little of Grace's memories. Just helped to remember the good things.
  • Was on the winning relay team at the Bark-B-Cue.
  • Liked to run around, over, and under the picnic table with Raleigh or Paisley.
  • Ran the “zoomies”
  • Played color guard with her tug.
  • Pulled socks, and only socks, out of the dirty laundry.

Jasper was such a sweet looking boy,,RIP Jasper. @Snowysmom I hope happier memories of the years spent with him, replace some of the sorrow you are feeling now.

It is so hot out there. Cannot wait for the Thursday cooldown! Sister in law stopped at the discount place before bringing me home, and I picked up a small frozen pizza to cook for dinner. Not something I eat often,,but it was a long day, and I just want something easy to make and eat. Put a load of laundry in and gathered trash for tomorrow..when I will remember to look out for walnuts and not take a tumble on the driveway again.

Sister in law had to drive to Morgantown (about 1 hour and 45 min), today..and then back..and then she was on her way home from dropping me off, when her husband called her and said had locked his keys and phone in the car when he stopped at Sheetz to get gas..and he then walked the 2 miles to the Keyser WV DMV where he was supposed to meet his sister in law, so they could transfer their mothers van to him. That was a long walk in this heat! He got there and the DMV wouldn't let him do it, no idea why. So sister in law and niece had to drive all the way back out to Keyser (about 20 min or so) to bring him a spare key, and then drive home again. She better get some rest tonite!

Have a nice evening all..try and stay cool!

Aww, Jasper was precious, Snowysmom! He is indeed lighting up Heaven with a doggie grin right now :)

I LOVE that you did that Carol, what a great idea. You inspired me to do the same now about Champ.

Three of his favorite (non meat) human treats were: graham crackers, golden grahams and popcorn!

My funniest memory will always be coming home to find Champ on the kitchen table trying to figure out how to open a plastic top on a container of graham crackers.

He was so very loyal and smart. He wasn't much of a cuddler or couch dog but always knew when you most needed him.

God absolutely played a direct Hand in bringing Champ into my family. Have I shared that story? :)

:grouphug:Easyas.

Hooray for your SIL, Lynn and enjoy your pizza!

I've been awol for a few days so I'm not commenting on everything.

Snowysmom so sorry for your loss. Like many of us here I have been there and saying goodbye is the hardest thing we do for our furbabies. He was a cutie.

Lynxstch glad they are making progress with your husband. I know that empty house feeling but it sounds like he is making some good progress.

I lost my dog Nikki about 9 years ago. I know letting her go was the right thing but it hurt so much that I said never again. I could see her everywhere in the house, feel her in bed with us, I just couldn't do it. Then one day my daughter showed me the cutest puppies her husband's cousin was fostering. I could feel and hear Nikki telling me to go for it. No one will ever take her place but Chewie has filled the hole she left in my heart.

I have had a day. I had to take the one grandson to camp, the other one has a fever so he's out for a few days,. He caught the bug Benny had last week. Then I needed to get new tires for the front of the car, I have had a slow leak. While there I wound up getting my inspection and oil change done. They weren't busy so I figured it was due anyway, I might as well. 2 1/2 hours in a shop with NO AC.

Got home and grabbed my shopping list and was off to the grocery store. Dropped the groceries off and had to get Ben from camp. They had a trip today and the boys bus was an hour late. More time in the heat. Took Ben to get his haircut and my SIL met me there. I had a few errands so I used a gift card to get dinner that I wound up not eating. I stepped on something, lost my balance and tripped into the wall and think I broke a toe. I just lost my appetite completely. I may just have some ice cream later.

Tomorrow is a doctor's appointment for my husband and then PT for my grandson Anthony. Ben decided he does NOT want to go to camp tomorrow so my day eased up a bit. Anthony is really working hard to get his leg in shape so he can get on the ball field again. I feel so bad for him. He has had some rotten luck and then a teammates mother had the audacity to ask if they could borrow his jersey til he can play again for a replacement player. The poor kid just burst into tears. He is afraid he'll never play again as it is and then that. Thankfully he went to practice tonight and the coaches are great. They aren't letting him run yet, just throw the ball around to get back in shape.

I am off to watch the Olympics. I love the swimming and diving. My daughter was a diver and very good. I was made a judge at meets and I still like to judge the divers at the Olympics. I am usually very close to the actual scores.

Have a good night everyone

Snowysmon-- I feel so sad for you..... I guess it's so hard because we love them so much!

Kirby---- Your book club choice Summer Kitchen made me think of a story I always have to explain to people. We live in the house I grew up in and we have a summer kitchen. It is really just a shed now but it has always been called the "Summer Kitchen" My mom remembered doing the cooking, canning and laundry there as a child. When I was a young girl I used to try and call it a shed so I wouldn't get all the strange looks and questions. Now I love calling it that.

We have been getting ready for a rummage sale this weekend. It is a lot of work. A lot of the items are from my sister who passed. I thought I didn't have a lot to sell, but we came up with many items. If they don't sell, I'm just glad to get them out of our house.

It should cool down tomorrow, so glad, however the humidity is still supposed to be high.

:grouphug:Taz Dev and good to see you. I'm sorry your day was so hard. Prayers tomorrow is brighter for you and your grandkids! God Bless both Nikki and Chewie! Thank you for sharing with us about them :)

Hugs, DazedX3. I hope your sale goes very well! One thing I learned from my last sale is that people will come EARLY. Don't put anything out until you are prepared for someone to come by! Aww, love your summer kitchen story!

Wishing all of you a good evening.

@Snowysmom again I'm so sorry. :grouphug:

I had a great birthday with my hubby and friends on Sunday. We took a Lyft ride over to a fancy bistro/bowling alley. Each group(party) got two lanes for 2 hours with nice couches and a table in the middle. Lots of room between lanes so you're not close at all to any of the other bowling groups like a regular bowling alley. A server brought our food and drinks to our spot, we had some cocktails and every appetizer on the menu...sliders, hummus and veggies, bruschetta, pigs in a blanket, calamari, and garlic fries, then they brought me out a brownie sundae with a candle. It was good and we had so much fun bowling. After we finished our bowling time, we went to a fancy movie theater with reclining chairs and servers that take your order from your seat....we saw the movie Old, not our top pick but the only thing that started around the time we went. We got popcorn and drinks brought to our seats...it was again, super nice and fancier than anything we have where we live. LOL I'll be staying with hubby through the rest of week in the Bay Area but our friends are leaving tomorrow, he has another job to get to closer to home.

Wanted to share a couple more pics from the flower job my friend and I did on Saturday.

We did two jobs in 2019 and then of course Covid nixed any large events planned for 2020 so we're hoping to start doing this again regularly. My friend handles the business part...booking, buying the flowers and all the other necessities then we do the flower arrangements and set up together. I really enjoy it.

Here's a couple of the centerpieces, we made 9 altogether...

Head table centerpiece for the couple...kind of hard to see because of the glare. The view from the venue is probably amazing at night....it upon a hillside and that whole side of the room is floor to ceiling windows.

Welcome tables....

Just love the way everything turned out. :lovestruc

Hope you enjoy the pics.

I looked at that after you mentioned it. Looks good but it is #2 in a series. Is it stand alone or do you have to read the other first? I put the first one on my "to read" list.
I haven't read the other three books in the series. One of our members suggested that book for us, she didn't even know that it was part of a series. I feel that you could read it as a stand alone. I've ordered book one because I'm curious now, been trying to figure out the common thread between the four books and I think it might be the area of town they take place in.

There is a summer kitchen in the book but it's really old and used for a kid's hideout.

I finished a very good book today, could hardly put it down, A Time For Mercy by John Grisham.

Having printer problems makes for a very trying day. I used to have two, one for faxes and personal stuff and one for business. My business one quit on me a little over a year ago and I have been using my personal one for work. Ever since we installed our new internet modem we've had some trouble with our equipment. This morning my personal printer would not work and I couldn't figure it out for the life of me. I spent a good part of the morning working with it. I took a break and got my hair cut then because I was out of sorts went and got some much needed comfort food, fried chicken and okra. I shouldn't of done that but I did and I'll do better tomorrow.

Then I decided I really needed a business printer and bought one at Office Max. DH got home just in time to help me get it out of the box. He was just tearing through packing and unknown to me the power cord got tossed a couple of feet away. I had to tell him to stop because I'm a read the instructions type of person and wanted to make sure everything was there and set it up. Then we can't find the power cord. We look and look and no cord. So I call the store and after a number of questions they said to bring it in and exchange it for another one. So I'm getting it ready to take it back and low and behold there is the power cord way over there by itself. It's a miracle! Another call to the store to let them know I wasn't coming and got my printer all set up ready to use. DD came home a while later and fixed my personal computer. Was just a matter of resetting the printer and putting the modem password in. I hope I don't have to do that every day.

By the time everything was done I was whipped and announced to DH that we were eating out. We went to Primo's, one of our local mexican restaurants.

Now I'm ready to sit and watch a new episode of Homeland.

Here's a picture of the sunset behind our neighbor's house. I'll have to get on my phone to add it.

@AuntieMe3, love the flower arrangements!

Hello Quackers, just giving the thread a bit of a bump.

Auntieme3- how fun for you and your friend that your hobby/business (sorry, it sure which it is really) lets you be so creative and brings joy to others. Thank you for sharing all the pictures, those look like they took a lot of time and care.

kirby- very pretty sunset picture, nothing quite like a beautiful sunset.

:grouphug: To all who have lost or are facing the loss of a family pet. I’ve lost my share. I always feel when we are supposed to get the next one he or she will arrive at the right time. I never have really sought a pet, they always seem to find us When the time is right. I also never feel like I’m replacing any of them once they have passed and a new one comes to our family. I just feel my love is growing and it’s time to help/love another furry friend. In fact, when I was young I had to put my first real pet that was my “own” to sleep. My mom drove me down and I bawled the whole way of course. When we got there the vet (who is a good family friend) was so kind, and then when it was over showed me a kitten who had been abandoned and needed a home. Um, what??? Was she crazy? Nope, ended up getting the kitten a few days later. I still missed my other cat terribly, but this new baby needed love and I had love to give, so home with me she went. Our vet knows me well, so I was not offended she did this, but she did get a bit of a side eye from me at first.

Tomorrow is supposed to be the hottest day yet of the year…our upstairs bedrooms are so stuffy and miserable, even with fans. I’ll be so thankful when this heat snap finally breaks. Not sure when our next chance of rain is coming, but we are getting to the point where we sure could use a drop or two.

We have a new minister at our church, and this week was his 3rd week. I am struggling a bit with him. I know 3 weeks is hardly enough time to even give him a chance, but I left the service this week feeling very conflicted.

Good nights rest wishes to all.

Good morning QUACK'ers. Not terrible outside now, 65, but going near 90 again. Now our 78 for the next 2 days has turned into 86 or so, only 33% chance of rain. I got out our bigger hose last nite and really soaked everything outside, I could almost hear the garden veggie plants saying 'ahhh...thanks' lol!

@AuntieMe3, your flower arrangements were all so pretty, and a Happy Belated Birthday to you!

Thought I would sleep well last nite, but I was so tired, that it was hard to fall asleep, and once I did, I woke up several times. Hope I make up for it tonite. Just fed the cats and took the trash down to the street (no falls this time), and got stuff ready for the day. Going to lay down for an hour or so and see if I can fall asleep and wake up a little more rested

@frog3101, sorry about your heat and today being even warmer. Make sure to stay hydrated and as cool as you can!

Have a nice Wednesday everyone, catch y'all later on today. (cable guy coming between 2:30 and 4:30 so I have to be home a little earlier today.

Found out the rest of the DMV story from yesterday. He got there, and the door were locked (4:10), I banged on the window and the clerk said 'closed'. He pointed to his sister and sister in law..and the lady let him in. They were the ONLY people in there besides 2 clerks. The first clerk asked them for their ticket number. They said we didn't take one, we are the only ones here. Clerk says sorry, can't help you. The other clerk down about 5 feet says come over here and I will help you. They get to her window and she says sorry, I can't do what you need me to do. They were tranferring their mother (who died last month) van to my brother in law, all he had to do was pay the inheritance tax (about $100), since the van had been in an accident and the insurance company considered it totalled). They asked her why she couldn't do it , as they had everything they were told to bring. She said I need a death certificate. They told her noone had said they needed that (if it were me, I would have assumed and brought a copy). She said sorry, without that , we can't transfer ownership. So they wasted all that time, brother in law walked all that way in the heat, and now they have to go back another day. One of the sisters lives by Hershey Park in PA, so its not a short drive, but I guess they all learned that they should keep a copy of the death certificate with them for the time being!
