(This one comes from another thread here on the DIS. - Thanks @Summer2018!)
That's what we're hoping for. If we're lucky, we won't see any mosquitos till mid June. If not, I hope we make it to at least May.

We've had freezing drizzle overnight and the roads are a little slick. We're staying in, I doubt now that the cars will move Wednesday. We own a plumbing company and DH will not put the trucks on the road in slick conditions plus all the work currently scheduled is outside so that's on hold for now. Next weekend may be full of leaking pipes that froze. I remember Christmas 32 years ago, DH worked almost non stop because of frozen pipes, he barely got to enjoy our son's first Christmas.

DD made breakfast for us this morning, scrambled eggs and bacon. I made toast while DD and DH put it on tortillas. One more thing I forgot to get at the grocery store yesterday. Oh well, we'll survive.

Staying in the 20's today.

Good morning Quackers from me, too.

I love the yellow sign, PollyannaMom, so cute!

Handmade cards are the best, Lynxstch! Glad you got yourself some new sneakers.

Thanks, Taz Dev, all seems fine still with the cable box, hooray.

Stay warm and safe friends. Have a cozy weekend! No Valentine plans for me, quiet Sunday, enjoying worship and I did make my Dad a Valentine card. He got us one time at Dollar Tree some napkins with hearts that we will use tomorrow, makes things more festive and cheerful :)

Good morning Quackers.

Dreary and cold. This weather is getting old.

Unfortunately they are calling for mixed precipitation with 1/10 inch of ice. Where DS is (Calvert County) they are calling for 1/4 inch of ice. His home is surrounded by trees so I hope he doesn't have a problem.

Its still misting a fine freezing rain, and since the temp went down to 25,,its not melting :(

@tazdev3225, that is a shame that it is so difficult to get an appointment. We consider ourselves lucky how easy it was with our health department.

You are lucky, because it's not easy around here. You can't even make appts because there isn't enough of the vaccine :(

@lynxstch, I am glad our health department allowed people to sign up online. Still had to wait until there was vaccine was available but knew I was on the list. When it became available at the local Walmart, I started calling there to see if I could get on a list there too but couldn't reach them by phone after calling for a week.

Hi all,
I'm happy to hear about Lily and LJ being home!! I hope that they both can continue to grow and thrive as they need to.

I am super duper sick of this weather. I don't know the last time the temperature was above 25 here and the snow still on ground and we are apparently going to get walloped Sunday/Tuesday and Thursday/Friday. Blah I am grumpy. I'm ingesting work and their feelings too much I think and the weather doesn't help.

I'm struggling with my mom and her depression but hopefully being able to schedule actual in person hug your family member visits will help. I'm going down next month and also getting her twin brother scheduled to see her. I think starting that up will help or I hope so anyways.

@apirateslifeforme I really enjoyed hearing about your FIL's funeral and hearing your love and caring in your descriptions and how ya'll honored him. That says a lot about him and about you.

@lynxstch Have you called any of your pharmacies? I know everyone thinks the health department is it but I'm hearing more and more pharmacies are getting it. In my little hometown in AR, the local drug store is giving out the shot and then walmart will start next week. Might be worth giving a call. I'm on list to be called for the "leftovers" if there are shots left but cancellations. I called the local hospital here and asked for that list.

Ya'll make me happy just to read and see this thread going. Oh!! Matt got a promotion!! After 6 months on the job! I'm so impressed with him and his company. His anxiety and PTSD has really being flaring the last couple months and I hope that this new job will help ease and it he working with our local Vet Center and doing online appointments because I can't/won't do one on work with him but do the work of a wife planting seeds here and there for him to think about.

Has anyone bought furniture lately? We ordered some new living room furniture and the wait is about 3 month wait or so. I hope his ugly recliner doesn't give up the ghost in the mean time.

Here's happy Valentine's day to all! I send ya'll my good thoughts, hugs and pray for you all often.

What a nice Saturday surprise to hear from you, Tina. Hugs, my friend and much congratulations as well to Matt! Continued prayers for you always and your Mom. I truly hope you will get to hug her soon! The only new furniture we have gotten was our card table at the end of last year. I think everything is taking longer right now to be delivered! I am already planning ahead/looking for some Autumn and Christmas decorations!

Hugs, Lynxstch. Do you have Rite Aid out there? As I posted, that is where my Dad will be getting his vaccine in a week. I hope you are able to schedule one soon!

We got on our counties Dept of Health sign up thingy (thanks to info from you!:love1:) and every week or so they email to say 'hey, we know you are still waiting, we don't have enough vaccine yet but we haven't forgotten about you'. We are also on another list that we were able to be placed on due to a work situation. So -now we are in waiting mode.

Oh!! Matt got a promotion!! After 6 months on the job! I'm so impressed with him and his company

Excellent for him! Congrats -
Has anyone bought furniture lately?

No, but it's funny you bring that up. I almost stopped into a furniture store today to do a little window shopping - but the funky ice weather we are getting now was coming in and I wanted to get home and get off the roads. I don't need anything right this moment, but I've pre-given away (if that makes sense!) a large sectional couch, a upright freezer, a dining room table & chairs AND a big porch table & chairs to the eldest as soon as he moves. I've got a bit of time yet, but I'll need to replace all that when he goes.... we have a big store this way called Raymore & Flanigan and I'm told their deal is that they already have everything in stock - except of course anything special you might have to custom order - but that everything on showroom is in stock and you can get it pretty quick. That's going to be my first stop - we also have another huge place down in southern De called Johnny Janosik that is MASSIVE and you need a day to just get thru it. I've ordered from them before, the couch and dining set I gave to eldest came from there some time ago.

Headed up to Cabelas today, husband needed a fishing pole...I went along for the ride because it's not like I'm doing anything else with myself. Toyed around with the idea that I might hit Costco but didn't. It's sleeting and icing and snowing and just cold as hell outside . Got a fire roaring and about to settle down to watch a spot of TV. Pre cooked the sausage for sausage gravy tomorrow morning, so that is done. No plans tomorrow, we don't celebrate Valentines Day really, so nothing planned for that.
I'm thinking about cooking a small turkey tomorrow , leftovers for a few days and then soup.

Husband making sloppy joes for dinner this evening for himself, I'm still full from a late lunch so I might pick at whatever vs. having a regular dinner tonight.

Stay warm those of you in the cold!

@lovemygoofy--Glad to see you Tina! Congrats to Matt on his promotion..that's great news!
The issue with Walmart or a pharmacy having the vaccine, is that hubby has COPD and cannot go into those places. We are waiting for the health dept to get enough so they can start giving them to 65+, which from the article in our paper this morning, could be another couple of months.

@flyingdumbo127 No, Mona we no longer have a Rite Aid, nor a Walgreens. We have CVS , Pharmacare, and a couple of other pharmacies we have never used.

As to new furniture..we need a new living room set badly. But I will NOT go and pick it out by myself and pick out 'the wrong thing'. I am going to have to go in and video all of their furniture, then bring it home for hubby to look at and give his opinion. From the sound of it,,their deliveries are on time if the items are in stock, don't know about if they aren't. We did get a new mattress set in March, and because we needed a different height base, they had to special order it. They said 2 weeks , and it was delivered in 2 weeks and 1 day. Hubby has a power recliner, and the cover on it was some kind of cheap fake leather (his daughter gave it to him), and the stuff is just peeling off. It looks horrible, but at least the power part still works!

I think we are all tired of winter,,tired of snow, cold, ice, etc. But Spring is only 36 days away, so hang in there!

So nice of you to give some furnishings to your eldest, Easyas. You stay warm, too!

:( Sorry, Lynn. I've never heard of Pharmacare. We have mostly CVS but also Rite Aid and Walgreens. For a big joint purchase such as furniture I can understand you not wanting to make that choice yourself!

Furniture - that was my exciting New year’s eve date. My Hubbie took me to a furniture store. He had been avoiding going out in public as much as possible. He works from home, I work at a school part time. Anyway, after being married 15 + years, we finally bought a dining room table and a display cabinet . I’m so so so excited. Normally they said it takes 6-8 weeks, but now its like 3-4 months. It won’t arrive till after April 15th. I’m most excited to finally taking down the Lego tables, bookcases, and board games out of the “play room” and Turing it into a dining room.

shots - still waiting on health dept and or the local grocery store to call so we can get 90 year old grandma vaccinated. They are starting 65 + next week in our area, but we are still waiting on her to get one. These past two weeks have been teachers, so I got mine this morning and so far feel fine
hugs to all

Discovered the Ruby Herring mysteries on HM&M and am enjoying them.

@lovemygoofy, good to see you and congrats to Matt on his promotion.

Has anyone bought furniture lately?
We like to shop at an Amish furniture store in Buck, PA. We bought a kitchen table set and table and chairs for our screen porch in the fall of 2019. Because we ordered the colors/finish we wanted, I think they took about 3 months. Bought a recliner off the floor there this summer and brought it home with us.

We have CVS
They are now offering vaccines in MD. Check their website. I am surprised your county health department is so far behind ours.

We have been trying to get rid of the old kitchen table that we replaced for about a year now. Couldn't get anyone to pick it up. I just contacted a woman who runs a food pantry and was looking for a table and 4 chairs, I assume for someone in need. She is coming tomorrow to get it.

We know they are, but they are not doing them here yet..still working on 75+. You can't get through on their phones to call and ask anything, and they said there was no point in signing up online till they got more vaccines in. We are so far behind the rest of the state that it isn't funny.

His service was in my old home town, Agawam.
So you'd know the MA Veteran's Cemetery? :) Just up the road from Six Flags? (Or what used to be Riverside Park...man, do I miss that place. So much better than Six Flags!) And DH and I used to live right on the main road a few miles north of that - right next door to McCarthy's Liquors (I only mention that because many people from Agawam know McCarthy's very well ;) ). We're glad we still live close by and can visit Dad often. I actually think we live the closest, even though we're in the next state!

Tina, much congratulations to Matt on his promotion! That's awesome!

So it's been a week now. All this week, my BIL and SIL have been taking turns staying overnight with Mom. Nobody wants her to be alone just yet. Tonight, DH and Josh are staying - this is Josh's first sleepover and my first night ever without him! I should be putting him to bed now and it's so weird that I don't have to. I suggested that maybe they could take Mom out to breakfast tomorrow morning if she'd like. She does seem to be coping well. DH and SIL have both said that they think she'll be fine - she's a social butterfly and she's very close to her cousins, and they've all had their vaccinations now, so maybe once the weather starts to get nicer they can get together more often. The only complaint we have right now is that my SIL is all hyped up about "someone needs to stay with Mom" and "we have a lot of phone calls to make," etc. It's probably her way of coping, but she's driving a few of us nuts. When everyone left the kitchen the other night except my BIL and I, he leaned over and quietly said to me, "Deb needs to back off a bit, she's making me crazy" ;)

Last night and today, Josh has seemed very angry. I'm assuming this is how his grief is coming out, in anger. He even head-butted me in the stomach several times last night, which was quite painful with all the stuff I've got growing in there. I'm not sure yet what to do to help him. I did just now get a text from DH, he's having fun at Granna's house; my BIL and his family (and their dog :) ) stopped over and he's thoroughly enjoying himself. Good to hear.

It's funny how new furniture was mentioned - I so want to get several new rooms. All of the furniture in the house is my grandmother's and it's just not my taste. All dark, heavy wood. I basically want to gut the living room - well, except for the nice TV console that we bought a few years ago when we had to get the new TV. We have 2 massive bookcases, with 4 shelves that are deep enough for two rows of books (one behind the other) and 2-shelf cabinets on the bottom. We've had them as long as I can remember, so they're about 40 years old? My mother has been looking at YouTube videos and she's decided that we're going to paint them this spring. I do like to repurpose things, but this is a daunting task! I'm disappointed in the La-Z-Boy sofa that I bought when I was pregnant with Josh; it's only 6 years old and it's not holding up like you'd expect from that brand. We also want to paint the fireplace mantel and somehow reface the brick surround, and get new fireplace doors. We need to get rid of the carpet as well. It's no longer green.

I'd also like new bedroom furniture. DH and I have my grandmother's bedroom and also her furniture. Again, heavy dark mahogany. It's very nice, it suits its purpose, and we have LOTS of drawer space, but it's just not "me." But honestly, DH is a bit of a tightwad and I'm literally afraid to spend any money. I feel like I have to justify my spending. And since we like to travel, I do agree that curbing frivolous spending will allow us to have the funds for travel, but I'm getting to the point where if I'm going to continue to live in this house, I need some serious change.

I think that is what is so frustrating for so many folks... in does seem to be that there is not much rhyme or reason and no continuity between town/county/state in many situations. I'm very much for States rights, but in this situation I thin we may have benefited from a more Country-wide set of protocols for the rolls out vs. state by state/area by area. I'm kinda concerned about being able to secure a SECOND shot after my first if I'm not given the appointment at my first shot appointment. Some folks are, and then you hear the horror stories of the folks that aren't and how they are trying - in vain a lot of the time - to secure their second appointment.

It would seem that the sleeting has stopped in our neck of the woods. Whether that is a temporary lull and it will pick back up or it's done, I don't know. We've been out and spread salt three times on the steps off the back of the deck and sidewalk out front. I worry as our big guy normally takes about a 10-15' leap from the ground onto the porch as he comes back up to the house after having a wander and I am concerned he may slip, he's already slipped once today and I don't much fancy hauling a giant dog who is one big baby to the vet for a broken leg. Looks like it's forecast to hit about 40 tomorrow afternoon so hopefully it will melt the ice on the steps & sidewalk.

Trying to think of something fun to do tomorrow: a game, a brisk walk w/ the pups and some TV watching and some book reading are all high on the list. Also I should probably pop and toss the KC Chiefs balloon I bought my husband last Sunday morning away:duck:the children have implied I may have jinxed them (the Chiefs ) by bringing it into the house!

A pleasant evening to all -

this is Josh's first sleepover and my first night ever without him!

Enjoy it!

How nice that you are near your FIL's resting place, and that your FIL & MIL have caring adult kids to look after Mom in these next days and weeks as reality sets in. Hopefully the coming spring, you guys, the hope of more travel, her group of friends having had vaccines helps her get out of the house and get over the hump of the next several months.

ps....it's OKAY to enjoy a bit of time to yourself
pss...it's okay not to feel guilty about it, too:love: watch what you want on TV and get up when you want and eat what you want for breakfast. Or take YOURSELF out for breakfast!

@easyas123, I agree that the roll out should have been national with every state having the same criteria and phases of who gets it. I am also glad that I was able to make my second appointment at the first one.

Currently watching Ghost. DH and I were just talking about it the other night and realized we’d never seen it then it turned up on MTV tonight. Not that I usually watch MTV.
