San Diego

San Diego has been on our short list for forever, just never seem to get there! Husbands Uncle recently moved there, so we have an extra excuse to go! One of these days -

Good evening everyone!

Warm wishes to all with struggles.

This afternoon was nice for around here in Feb., but I was in a meeting all afternoon, and in the car 90 minutes to and from, so didn't get to enjoy it much. Our farm is one big mud slick at the moment, but hoping to get a decent walk in tomorrow afternoon...that's what the make boots for, right?!?!

chicken in lettuce wraps this evening, we are both suffering a sweet tooth of late so I've added some brownies to the menu Sunday.

Easyas, San Diego is fun. I used to enjoy going there as a kid. I haven't been there for over 10 years and due to not being able to travel for that long (it's about a 2-3 trip depending on traffic) may not get back. I hope you enjoy it one day, especially should you go post plague! Brownies sound delightful, enjoy!

Good morning all. Mild and above freezing for a change, but only going to a high of 38. Since we are supposed to be missed by the next storm, I am grateful! I did wake up with a headache though, and my bad knee aches, and that's usually a sigh of something amiss with the weather. I did laundry after our light dinner last nite (special K with blueberries) since we ate lunch so late. So today will just be lightly cleaning bathrooms, and changing the linens on the bed. I do plan on spending some time on my puzzle, which I haven't had time to do all week.
No word on how Lily is doing yet today, will update when I know something. I would like to thank you again @tazdev3225 for the informative pm's, which could turn out to be very helpful in her situation. It's so nice to know that there are so many friendly QUACK'ers on the thread that take the time to do things like that. It means so much to me , and I appreciate it.R88bef675b1379e179c42827766b27b60.png

Have a great Saturday morning, enjoy the weekend!

Morning, friends. I've been up for almost 2 hours here. My FIL passed suddenly overnight. We don't know what happened. My MIL called an ambulance to take him to the hospital, and when she and my BIL caught up, he was already gone. My SIL picked DH up about an hour ago and they went up to the house. DH had said that Dad didn't seem "right," but none of us expected him to go so quickly.

I don't know what I'm going to tell Josh. He last saw him 2 weeks ago now. He knows about Heaven, but I think in his mind, it means you go there when you don't feel well and someday you'll come back (one of our cats passed away 3 years ago and he still talks about her coming back). For the moment, I can just tell him that Daddy had to go take care of something and he'll be home later, but at some point we'll have to explain it... :sad1:

Lynxstch no problem and I am glad I was able to offer some help.

pirateslifeforme My condolences. I was Josh's age when my one grandfather died. I didn't really understand it and at show and tell in school that was what I spoke about. My teacher wasn't happy with me but I didn't really get what death was, I just knew everyone was sad. My parents just told me that my grandfather died and went to be in Heaven with God. I thought it was a visit and he would come back. It took some time for me to realize that he was there forever. You know your son, just tell him in terms that he can understand but he may not get it right away. What helped was remembering all the fun things I did with my grandfather. I still remember them many years later and have certain things I have to do because of him. Strawberries in sugar is one of them, it's the only way I can eat them.

I spoke to my grandson last night and we are just in a holding pattern with LJ now. His coming home is up to him basically. Once he gets the hang of breathing he will be home. My grandson did say he will try and get the demolition of the kitchen started this week since he needs the activity, and the money, anyway.

I am off to see some covered bridges today with my granddaughter, hopefully with snow. I debated going down the shore instead, there is nothing like a snow covered beach but I don't think there is any snow left on the beach. They didn't get as much snow down there as Lancaster did. Maybe one day next week as they are calling for another snowstorm around here again tomorrow.

Have a good day all

:grouphug: @apirateslideforme.

DS was quite young when we lost his great-grandmother. - I’ll see if I can find any of the resources we were given then about talking to kids.

I do remember being told that kids grieve in pieces - it doesn’t hit them all at once, but at odd times, in smaller chunks. So don’t worry if he doesn’t seem as upset as you expect at the times you expect (or seems unusually upset at other times). He will process it, just on his own schedule.

Good morning.

@apirateslifeforme, so sorry for your loss. And I hope that telling Josh isn't too hard. If you google, there are a lot of books that might help.

It's so nice to know that there are so many friendly QUACK'ers on the thread that take the time to do things like that.
I agree. I think everyone here is willing to help and support the rest of us.

Grandson is changing by leaps and bounds. He is almost 9 months now. He started eating some table food when DD fed him but now he has mastered getting it to his mouth himself. And he is now successfully crawling, which he wasn't last Saturday. We are going to visit today so see these new found skills.

@taxdev3225, I hope LJ can come home soon.

Currently rewatching the movie Dave. DH and I are in it. Well, you actually can't see us but there is a scene where Kevin Kline throws out the first pitch at an Orioles game. We were there when they filmed it. Had to show up early and they did the scene several times where we had to stand and cheer. It was fun.

Good Morning Friends,

Hugs and much condolences, Apirateslifeforme. I am so sorry. As others have said even knowing it was coming sure does not make it easy especially right now! I love all the caring suggestions so far for how to tell Josh. Another thank you to all of you for your care and concern! You know Josh better than anyone! He will process this as he is able to. It may not come for a while or out of the blue, in bits and pieces or all of the above! I think for anyone (especially a child) the most important thing (always) is to reinforce you care, you are forever their safety net of unconditional love. God is with them too! Your FIL is at peace and no longer suffering. Love the idea, hugs to you TazDev, of trying to carry on a tradition or enjoyable activity/time that was once enjoyed with the person who has passed.

Continued prayers for LJ and Lily!

Carol, that is so cool you and your DH got to watch a movie being filmed even if you weren't in it! Aw, God Bless your DGS.

:grouphug:to all.

@apirateslifeforme So sorry about your FIL. You know Josh best and how to talk with him about it.

Prayers and thoughts for LJ and Lily.

It is a sunny day for once and around 40. Since I have been back to working 40 hours a week now my housework mostly gets done on the weekends. Busy cleaning and shopping today. Jasper had a grooming appointment and his walk. He is napping in his chair. He is a tired old man dog. I suspect my work hours will be cut back to 24 hours a week in a month or so once the special project is done. Cruising isn't going to start up again for a while.

We are expecting another winter storm tomorrow with 6-9 inches of snow. Then this next week there are days with more snow expected but hopefully only snow showers. February can be a really snowy month.

Day has gone from mild to cold damp & overcast. Dogs came in and were miffed I hadn’t started fire yet, so we’ve just lit one for them. Rumor is a possibility for a bit of snow tomorrow AM, we will see. Youngest coming in tonight, so fillets defrosted for dinner. Store was out of wings this morning when I got around to hitting the grocery...luckily for me the third one I stopped at had two flats of wings left! It was almost “the year mom forgot the wings for Super Bowl!” Way to much crappy junk food for tomorrow 🤣 can’t wait to dig in!

QOTD:
If you or your family does your Super Bowl eats, what is on your menu?

For us it’s wings- medium
Potato skins
Onion dip & queso
Jalapeño poppers dip
Various chips
Onion rings
And maybe coconut shrimp
Brownies
Beer/wine
And- I think I forgot something???

5 core adults in immediate family,2 enterprising dogs vacuuming up the crumbs is all our party will consist of. But we don’t usually have a big crowd anyway.

I can’t stand the whole afternoon build up so by time actual game starts I’m over it and usually go watch a movie!

Long time Chiefs fans, that’s who husband & kids rooting for.

It was sunny all day, but very windy. Temp got to 43, but didn't feel like it. Sister in law and niece picked me up on the way to the discount store..and when we got back, we just sat outside talking for over an hour. FB and the phone just aren't the same, so it's nice to actually see them in person.
Just did a hot , relaxing beauty treatment, got into my comfy fleece phs with sheep on them, changed the sheets and put the others in the wash. We are going to finish our subs from Subway last nite for dinner tonite, I just don't feel like cooking. Then it's tv and bed.
Have a nice Saturday nite all, hope yours is more exciting than ours is going to be, lol!

Extra hugs to all. Good afternoon (closer to evening for a lot of you as well). What a Blessing right now to be just right. It's not cold! I'm sorry for a lot of you it is very cold. Just such an extra gift when it's warm in this apartment for awhile.

Our regular mailman (the one who vanished for a few weeks seems to be back and with his return, our daily mail appears back on track, too.

Your sheep PJ's sound adorable, Lynn! Years ago I had a pair of light purple pajamas with a sheep print on them from Kohl's.

Thanks for asking a QOTD, Easyas. I'm sorry to say my answer is nothing because I'm just not into football. I hope the teams each of you want to win do well tomorrow 🏈

QOTD

Its just the 2 of us..so we are having St Louis spareribs, baked potato, and coleslaw. If either of our 'favorite' teams were actually in it, we would be doing the whole 'buffet style spread' but since they aren't..we are just doing normal dinner. He's rooting for the Chiefs, I am rooting for the Buccaneers (mainly Tommy, lol).
