@bobbiwoz, I love the puzzle! We have a similar wintery Thomas Kinkade puzzle framed on our wall right now. I hang it up for Christmas but then leave it through February, as the Christmas theme isn't as obvious. DH and I put it together many years ago; I think it took us about a month to do it!

Tina, I am so sorry for your difficulties with the insurance and the nursing home. There is no love in my heart at all for insurance companies. I feel that all they care about is their bottom line and heaven forbid they do what's correct for people. I'm so sorry that you're dealing with this. I'm glad it turned out well, and I'm still sending lots of hugs and prayers to you

@Kirby, I'm so sorry to hear your news as well. So many hugs and prayers coming to you as well

@sweetpeama, my son is only 5 and I swear he says the same things to me every day. Or rather, screams them at me. "You always do *this,* you ALWAYS do *this*"...I've often asked him if there's anything I do right. Then he says he hates me. At least to that, I laugh and say "Good, then I'm doing my job." But inside it hurts something awful.... :grouphug:

I'll get my downers out of the way first. My aunt called last night. Her chemo isn't working, so she was given 2 options. She is calling the Mayo Clinic today to see if they can get her in within a week. (And I could have sworn there was another excellent cancer center in the country, but I can't think of the name right now.) Her doctor stressed to her, it has to be NOW. If that doesn't happen, her only other choice is hospice. I can't even think about how long she might have left. We all said at Christmas, she won't be here next year, and it looks like that's definite now. I've progressed to being angry over her situation. I sound childish by saying "it's so unfair" but it really is. It took her and my uncle 50 years to get back together and now they've only had 3. I think my uncle would probably say that they're the best 3 years he's ever had, but they deserve more.

The other weirdness is that Josh's teacher has been "sick" all week. She wasn't in school on Tuesday - and neither was the technology teacher (they always have that class on Tuesdays). Yesterday, the asynchronous day, while she did send assignments for the day as usual, she canceled the morning meeting that they always have. And the assignments were vague, most of them were "watch this video" things. We were done well before noon. Today, she sent a message that she wouldn't be in today or tomorrow, and here are your assignments. Again, vague and mostly video-watching; we were done by 10:30 a.m. Thursday is art class day, and what do you know...the art teacher canceled her meeting as well. Now, we've heard a rumor that teachers in the area were planning a "sick out," as our positivity rate yesterday was 10.72% (although I heard that it went way down already since then). There was also a board of education meeting recently and apparently the chairman, who NOBODY likes, was making "snide comments about words he can't say," was interrupting people and not letting them speak, and generally being rude. He had posted on his FB page that COVID doesn't exist. So I think this is an attempt by the teachers to show that they are not comfortable with the decision to "go back as normal." Starting February 1st, they will have to be in the classroom 5x per week and there will no longer be any deep cleaning like they do on Wednesdays now. On March 1st, the hybrid ends and ALL kids will be back in the classroom, 5x per week. So something is definitely up with all of these teachers being out all of a sudden. I wish it didn't have to be this way. It's hurting the kids (and the parents...I know I'm really struggling. Without the meetings, I have no guidance on what she's looking for). But I totally understand why they're doing it and I do support them.

On a brighter note, Josh did his winter I-Ready math diagnostic and he improved slightly, from 86th percentile in the fall to 89th percentile now. So he's learning something and I'm very proud of him!

QOTD - Share a special memory from one (or more) of your trips to Disney.
I went for the first time in March 1980 when I was 5 1/2. My mother and I met my then-aunt and my cousin Matthew there. Really the only thing I can remember is coming out of the bathroom and finding Matt having a little fist fight with Mickey Mouse. (Memorable to me because Matt died in January 2009, at only 32 years old :( )

Our first time with a little one was in February 2018! It was really hot and crowded, but we managed. Josh met Mickey Mouse at the Town Square Theatre (that was the talking Mickey Mouse, too), but he got really shy. So Mickey danced with me instead, twirled me, and gave me a big hug. That was when we discovered how much Josh LOVES the Haunted Mansion, too - he was only 2 1/2! And it's still his favorite ride! He also really liked the Carousel of Progress and the Hall of Presidents. I didn't think any child that age would have the attention span for those 2 shows, but he did! (He did ask once, quite loudly, "Mommy, is it over yet?" during the movie part of HoP, but only that one time. Otherwise he sat quietly and watched without complaint.)

One of my most favorite moments was when DH and I went with his parents in March 2013. Mom had rented one of those scooters - which she kept crashing, not really funny but totally funny at the same time. This particular time, however, we were in Epcot and heading for the Land pavilion. I was walking sort of next to her, a few steps behind, while DH and Dad were way behind us. I saw Mom look ever so slightly to each side of her, out of the corners of her eyes - looking to see where we were - and then she turned the speed dial up on the scooter. And then she took off. It really was funny...I don't think she realized that I was just close enough to see her do it. DH and Dad finally caught up to me laughing, and DH was completely bewildered..."Uh, where's Ma and what's so funny?"

I've had other good times. I enjoyed the Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween party in 2004. I loved the parade with the Headless Horseman leading it off, then all the zombie people from the Haunted Mansion doing the ballroom dance. When we went in the Haunted Mansion, as we entered the stretching room, before the CM closed the doors she said, "The master of the house would like to welcome you to his home." We all turned around to the entry foyer to see a very tall, thin man wearing "dead" makeup, standing there alone, waving very slowly. So cool, we got to see Master Gracey in person!

On another trip, we had the best Tower of Terror bellhop. He got everyone situated, then returned to the doors, and just as they started to close he smiled and said "Ta-ta..." Then the smile went away, he leaned in ever so slightly, narrowed his eyes, and said, "...for good," just as the doors closed right in front of his nose. It was kind of chilling and so in character with the ride.

Maybe that will make a good QOTD for today. Have you had any not-so-great Disney trips?

I can't say I've had any fully bad trips, but there have been bad moments. My ex and I went in September 1999 as a late honeymoon (11 months after we were married). I can't remember what he got mad at me about - probably something stupid, knowing him...maybe another man looked at me or something like that :sad2: - but he actually screamed at me, and then left me there in the park. I just sat on a bench, crying, for quite a long time. I had no idea where he'd gone, if he'd gone back to the hotel or what.

And on our trip with Josh in 2018, we had a guy try to pick a physical fight with us in the line for the Jungle Cruise. When we got to the front, the CM directed us to what looked like a full boat, then changed her mind and asked us to step back into the line. The guy behind us would NOT let us back in. He first ignored us, and loudly said how happy he would be to be first on the next boat and be right up front. The CM kept telling us to step back behind the line, and we kept trying...the guy put his arm up across my back and pushed me forward. The CM then yelled at me to step back - apparently she couldn't or wouldn't see what the guy was doing, so I said that I literally could NOT step back. When the CM came over to the line, the guy then took about a half a step to one side so DH, Josh and I could just barely squeeze in behind the yellow line. He then started up again about being the first in the boat pulling up. Finally that's when the CM gave him a weird look, so when the boat stopped, she came over and directed us to go first. We thought everything was fine, we said hello to the skipper and sat down next to where she had her foot on the bench. Then the pusher got on behind us, sat next to me, and then violently slid to the right, which pushed me into DH, who was holding Josh on his lap. He in turn got pushed into the skipper's foot and almost dropped Josh. The pusher then started up with, "You got a problem? I'm not pushing. You want to make this into something? Cause we can!" I turned myself as much as I could to face away from him and DH just said, "Fine. It's good. We're good." The skipper just stared at the guy. Kind of ruined the ride for us, and it was our last ride before leaving Disney altogether. Just glad he didn't come after us when it was over.

Hugs, B&B, what an awful trip for everyone! :( I'm sorry.

I love the family photo, Bobbiwoz. Thank you for sharing it with us :)

Many prayers, Apirateslifeforme :( I am so very sorry about your Aunt. It definitely sounds like the teachers at Josh's school are very unhappy with current choices and something is up. Hugs to both you and Josh!

It's a beautiful afternoon here--81! So grateful to see some sun and that it is warming up the apartment.

Peace, prayer, and hugs to all.

Remember, this is 2004! That’s me, Tom and son Greg who was working in Venezuela at the time!

My DSis is also in a red vest, kneeling.

I want to add that DMom lived to be 97, her last 3 years were difficult, BUT, with the DDiL and DS who were missing, we had a 4 generation family vacation two years after this! Mom enjoyed 4 trips to WDW after this one!

@Kirby Sending prayers your way for you and your mom. We had to do hospice for my father and it was really the best care for him. They were amazing.

@sweetpeama Teenagers are very trying sometimes. I think girls have more issues with mom and boys with dad. I had 2 sons and older DS would butt heads with DH. They can still have their moments. I can understand how you feel.

Pea n me put it very well about not having much reserve left after everything that has happened and continues to happen. I am finding 2021 to be just as bad as 2020, if not worse because I don't see much good coming down the road. I told DH I want my money back for 2021. It is not the year I want. We also have issues that come up that we have to deal with concerning cars, kids, not seeing grandkids alot, dog being chronically ill, and work issues. Not major issues thankfully but enough to give me stress and anxiety. I am trying to meditate a bit.

lynxstch I understand about having DH around all the time. We both work from home and I so need some alone time. Every time I go out to the kitchen to get coffee or tea he asks me what I am doing. Or he comes to the door of "my office aka DS's old bedroom" and asks if I can talk for a minute. He did go into work a couple of days this week so even though I was working it was nice to have the house to myself for a bit. He said he probably won't have to go in again any time soon. Not what I wanted to hear! LOL!

It is another dreary day with rain. We got the dog's walk in today but not our walk. I did walk aerobics instead. I have tomorrow off but I am doing errands and other necessary appointments tomorrow so it isn't really a day for me time. Tomorrow night we will get something out for dinner and I will have a glass of wine with dinner. Looking forward to relaxing a bit tomorrow night.

The worst Disney trip was probably when DH and I got food poisoning from the salad at Boma. It was the field greens salad. It was the only thing we both had in common. We spent a couple of days under the weather trying to run around the parks with the kids. Not fun. We still like Boma but stay far away from the salad.

Good evening everyone.

She is calling the Mayo Clinic today to see if they can get her in within a week. (And I could have sworn there was another excellent cancer center in the country, but I can't think of the name right now.) Her doctor stressed to her, it has to be NOW. I’m sorry to hear this about your aunt. Not sure if this is the one you were thinking about, but there is Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, too. They will try very hard to get someone in asap. Her doctor would need to call the Admission line (I think during the daytime) in order to do a transfer of care. I imagine they might be trying to get her on some type of clinical trial, not sure. You always want to know you did everything you could. It sounds like a very tough situation. And being out of town in a hospital in another city can be difficult, but they do have some options for lodging and such, if her husband wants to stay, though it can be pricey. (Which I imagine it is by Mayo, too.) That’s about all I know. Good luck.

Has anyone heard of Kalahari Resorts and Conventions? I found out today that one opened up in Round Rock just north of Austin. It looks amazing! Not that I plan on going anytime soon.
[/QUOTE]

yes, they Have Kalahari and Great wolf Lodges in Ohio, PA, and Virginia that my family or a close friend’s have been too .They are perfect for us long ,cold winter folks to go to in February. We often went Valentine’s weekend, as most people were out to dinners and the resort wasn’t as crowded. ( as long as president’s day wasn’t the same time). If you can stay 2 nights, go Saturday afternoon. Check in at 3pm. Enjoy the water park, get dinner, play all day sunday as people go home and stay Sunday night too. Great wolf is better for 2-10 year olds and Kalahari for those 8+. They have at least 6 water slides of all intensities, a pool, lazy river, sometimes obstacle courses, or water bucket dumpings. Its’ nice to have the 80 degree warmth with snow falling outside. Roooms are a little pricy , think $200-$300 but they include the water park and often can accommodate more people. We took grandparents, ( upstairs loft) aunt, ( pullout couch). 2 kids, and my Hubbie and I took the 2 double beds and we had a little kitchen area. Great for a long weekend trip with extended family. Any other questions, let me know.

Well at least you listened to me Mona, and sent 'some' of your warmth here..we got to 54 today. Calling for 40 and 90% chance of rain tomorrow. Tracking says pkg will be there Saturday, let's see how close they are! :P

I can commiserate with you,,it's like being under a microscope sometimes, isn't it? At least yours went to work for a couple of days. Mine is fully retired, so it's hard to get anytime alone,,(except when I get up at 4 am, but he's taken to getting up at 5 am lately, so even that time is getting scarce, lol)

:sunny:Yay that it was warmer for you, Lynn :) Thank you so much on the tracking update. I will let you know. This is the first time in forever that I can remember it being almost 4:30 here and I'm not cold! Dad may be right when he said because I pretty much stay home 24/7, and am not outside, the weather outside (and maybe inside as well--though we both usually agree when it's cold in here) feels different to me than it may for for others.

I love all the care and kindness of all of you, thank you, friends. Sending out extra prayers and hugs!

That sounds like fun! We did it with friends when the kids were young, too. It made me think of the Cape Codder Resort, which I’ve linked below, but I doubt it’s on the same scale as the Kalahari Resorts. It’s a nice getaway, though, if anyone is interested in visiting Cape Cod. Several years back they added time share-type homes to the resort. I’m not sure if they are rentable, but something to look into. The hotel itself is really nice and cozy, though, with fireplaces and hot tubs in some rooms. And a nice spa and gift shop, with an attached restaurant, etc. Of course, Covid restrictions are in place, but it seems like much is open.

https://www.capecodderresort.com/amenities/cape-codder-water-park
For a more adult resort experience, there is a sister resort, too, owned by the same parent company. It’s beautiful with many of the same amenities as the Cape Codder (but no water park). It’s also in a historic area.

https://www.danlwebsterinn.com/
Their third resort is in Plymouth - near, but not on, Cape Cod. It’s a fun getaway, too, but much smaller scale. Lots to do and see in Plymouth.

I managed to figure out some of my QOTD trips. I have been to Disney 24 times so there were quite a few memorable both good and bad.

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly
My 1st trip ever was in June 1988. My little brother's school was sponsoring a trip so we joined in. My kids were 16 months, 3 1/2 and 6. My mom and dad and little brother were also on the trip. It was good because it was our first trip and I was hooked. The bad part was I had to do everything the way my parents wanted. My middle child wanted to see "Pooh". We finally saw him as we were heading out for the airport and my mom refused to let me take her down to see him. Nothing like being 3 hours early with a tired and cranky child sobbing "I see Pooh PLEASE!!!" for 3 hours. My husband and the kids.
7.jpg

The next trip was THE UGLY!!! My kids call it "The Trip Where Mom Tried to Stab the Babysitter with a Spork! And yes I came close.
It was August 1992. Somehow the baby sitter came along, she did pay her own way, sort of. To this day my husband and I have no idea how she was included. Then add to it one week to the day before we left my youngest was pushed from the top of a sliding board and had a buckle fracture of her wrist. She was in a heavy plaster cast up to her shoulder. The drs. tried to say she couldn't go. I laughed and we went. The babysitter bossed my kids around, she lost her camera on Maelstrom and then had to buy a new camera. She only had about $150 with her and that was supposed to be for souvenirs and food. I had 14 rolls of film, pictures would not be an issue. We stayed off site but she had to buy the camera in DISNEY WORLD. The $20 camera cost closer to $50. By the end of the trip the kids sat on either side of me because I was seriously ready to do bodily harm.

The kids were growing.

The UGLY!!!
August 1997 my mom went and we drove. Over 1,000 miles and we stopped at every rest room on the way down. My son got sick at the PA/Delaware border and threw up the entire trip until we hit the border on the way home. He was starting with a severe anxiety disorder that plagued him for years. My mom accused my husband of babying him and the youngest so she spoiled the middle child, her favorite. She still doesn't believe my son has an anxiety disorder. He borders on agoraphobia but thankfully can control it now. I had to play go between with my husband and mom. I needed a vacation from my vacation.

35.jpg

October 2001 Was my first trip on property with my aunt and her partner. My aunt turned out to be just like my mom, her sister. I had to do what she wanted all the time. I rebelled and went off on my own more than once. I had an interesting experience at the airport when the National Guard armed with assault rifles surrounded me because I left my bag "unattended". It was with my aunt who decided to pretend she didn't know me at first. It was not fun.

August 2003
My grandson's 1st trip. He had so much fun he never wanted to come home. It was fun seeing Disney through the eyes of a child again. The only downside was my son decided he did not want to get up til noon so it was a fight every morning to get him up. Then he and his girlfriend had to stop at EVERY smoking spot. We just left them. The funniest part was when they decided to walk from All Star Movies to the McDonalds for food. Only the drive thru was open and they couldn't get served. They still ask me why. I question my son's intelligence at times. It's hard to believe this little boy is soon going to be a father.

4.jpg

There were a few more trips but my 3 other favorites were in August 2011, August 2012 and November 2017.
August 2011 was my grandson Anthony's 1st trip. He was almost 4 and again the thrill of Disney through the eyes of a child is perfect. Jay also turned 13 on this trip. There were some differences of opinions with my daughter mostly over her father. Jim's diabetes was getting bad, little did I know, and he had an issue with his foot. My daughter is very protective of him.

253.JPG

August 2012 was the first trip with my other daughter and her family. It was the 1st trip foe the kids. We drove down again and the kids had a blast. You can actually read about that trip in my signature It's august, it's hot where's Mikey. My Mikey has since been diagnosed with autism and ADHD. It created some issues as we did lose him once or twice, but he has an innocence about him that is so pure that watching him was a pure delight.

2 of my favorite pics - This was the whole gang minus Jim and I. The other one was my Ella seeing Minnie Mouse, Her favorite Character. I just lucked out and had the camera focused on her.
373.JPG374.JPG

The last trip was November 2017 and it was the trip of a lifetime and the BEST trip ever.

I had always dreamed of my whole family going at one time. I came into some money after a serious fall over a sidewalk in serious disrepair left me with a very bad ankle sprain, torn ligaments and cartilage, and a series of stress fractures. I got enough money to fulfill my dream. Then my husband Jim needed surgery on his foot, the diabetes reared it's ugly head, and he had 2 strokes after the surgery. Planning the trip helped keep me sane. There were 20 people, 7 rooms and ups and downs. The cast of insanity was Jim and I along with Jay in 1 room, my daughter Jen and her girls in room 2, Beth and her family in room 3, my daughter from another mother with her son and my Mikey in room 4, Rooms 5, 6 and 7 had 3 of my daughters friends and their kids/niece. I paid for all but the friends. My son and his family refused the offer, their loss.

We lost Jim constantly as he was still not 100% from the strokes. He has some directions issues still and limited vision. We went to Toy Story Mania and he wandered off because he already saw Chewbacca. It was interesting. We just made sure someone always kept an eye out for him. Meals took FOREVER, they actually had a bus waiting for just us at Animal Kingdom after a late ADR for dinner. The park was deserted by time we got out. I spent my time with my Jennifer and Daughter from another mother and they had me laughing constantly. They skipped through Hollywood Studios, wore light up tutus in Magic Kingdom, and just had such pure joy at being there all together. What more could I hope for. The biggest downside was meals were all 20 people, not an easy thing to deal with.. Even with some of the glitches I would do it again as it was the best trip ever, all things considered. I cannot wait to take my great grandson down in a couple of years and they girls are all planning on going at the same time to enjoy his 1st trip. Meals will not be everyone for every single meal. I raised them well though.

I would post pics from that last trip but my camera pics are always to large. I hope u=you all enjoyed my trip down memory lane as much as I did.

Its’ nice to have the 80 degree warmth with snow falling outside.

That brings back a great memory for me! Quite a few years ago, in November, we took DS and our nephew to a Great Wolf Lodge here in MA. It was absolutely magical sitting in half indoor half outdoor hot tub with snow falling. Definitely one of our best non-Disney vacations!

Thank you everyone. This has been especially hard for DD and my sister. DD was over at my mom's house all the time growing up and has a special bond with her. My sister has regrets, she didn't come see my mom very often and now wishes she had. I'm at peace. Unless my mom rallies it's just a matter of time until she passes.

I mentioned that our first trip to WDW was in 1987 but it was 1997. I've been four times and each time has been good in it's own way. I'd say my 4th time in 2002 was probably my least favorite. It was a last minute planned trip. We had to cancel a week in Durango, CO because of forest fires and was surprised when DH said "How about WDW for Thanksgiving?" We stayed at POR for the first time and loved it! It was great seeing all the Christmas decorations. I don't know what it was about that trip though. We had a good time but it was just off.

That sounds like a great way too "see" snow--warm inside and snow outside! I'm not a hot tub person but definitely would do hot chocolate :D

WOW, Taz Dev, I am sure sorry some of your trips were dramatic in a not kind way :( I do love all your pictures and thank you for sharing them.

I'm sorry, Kirby :( Lifting you in much prayer, my friend.

We have a Canon Pixma printer from Walmart that is about 3 years (we think) old. Since yesterday, any time we turn the printer on the yellow warning light flashes. When we try to print, the error message comes up saying "the ink absorber is full." By manually pressing either black or color, it prints fine. I Googled this error which made it sound as though this printer may be at the end of it's life span. We have had Canon Pixmas for years (different models) and have never gotten this message before! Does this ring a bell for any of you? Not that I wish printer trouble on any of you! Thanks.

This put a big smile on my face! It’s amazing how many details we can remember from all of our trips, isn’t it? :lmao: I’m glad you were able to get almost everyone to go in 2017. What a feat! It’s too bad your DS wouldn’t take you up on your offer, but had he gone it might have been a downer If he wasn’t into it or upset with someone or something, etc.

Thanks to all who shared their pictures! :goodvibes

@FlyingDumbo Sorry, not sure about that. Last time we had printer difficulties we just bought a new one at WalMart since the kids really needed a functional printer for schoolwork. The cost has come way down.

I don't know what it was about that trip though. We had a good time but it was just off.

I think part of a Disney trip is the anticipation. (That’s one of the reasons I'm generally not on the “surprise” side of the “should we surprise the kids?” threads.) Not that I’d turn down a free spur-of-the-moment trip or anything! 😆 But I do understand what you mean.

Pea, all the pictures have sure made me smile, too :)

I'm not at all a surprise (for me) fan either, PollyannaMom. I was given a very small surprise birthday party once that was fun in the end, I just would have rather have known about it. As a kid, I might have loved a surprise positive trip most anywhere! These days with my health restrictions, probably not so much!

Lots of posts this evening.

We did go on a hike today. Went to a trail in Fair Hill we hadn't done before. Did 3.25 miles and it ended up being very sunny.

All this Disney talk, I expect our next trip will be with the grandkids.

I have never been to Great Wolf or Kalahari but would have liked them if they'd been around when the kids were younger. A great story that I can picture in my mind. When DS was on the campaign trail in 2012 with the secret service, they book them hotels where ever they get the government rate. Somehow in Ohio, I think, they ended up in a Great Wolf Lodge. They had some down time so the officers went to the waterpark. Apparently they were going on some of the tube slides and were told they exceeded the weight limit but convinced them to let them go anyway. Can you imagine being there with your kids and seeing these very fit 20-30 year old men on the slides?
