A book I sent through paperback swap over a month ago finally got delivered today! I am hoping my friend Shirley who lives an hour and half from me that I sent a puzzle book to on that same day maybe finally received that today as well. I will give her a call. I am grateful we are receiving regular daily mail again. Packages are another story!

Carol, at one time I had all of James Herriot's books. Soon after I joined paperbackswap, I was sorting through so very many books I had at that time and realized the heavier hardcovers (which those were) I probably would not enjoy reading again--due to the weight. I do like hardcovers because the pages tend to remain whiter longer and of course they look nice. Paperbacks are more enjoyable to read especially in bed. I have a vague memory of dog in one of Herriot's stories that only barked once. I don't remember any specifics just definitely reading that! I tended to prefer the first two books to the later stories. I'm so glad you have some pretty scenery to drive by :)

Yikes, Easyas123! I'm sorry and admire you for sticking with your appointment! I am not a heavy smell of anything (except freshly baking cookies :D) fan. Chemical-y odors which rubbing alcohol has are the worst!

Sparkle, sadly as you know throughout this pandemic there have not been too many positives across the board in each state! I also don't understand why the vaccine rollout is at least not more similar.

Good tip, Sweetpeama! I hope your girls enjoy their 4H meeting. I so agree it is important to stick with a trusted doctor you feel comfortable extra for kids!

PollyannaMom, good to see you posting :) Prayers indeed for your son as he returns to school!

@Bianca and Bernard, I'm so very sorry for your DD's and your family's loss. Many, many prayers to all of you

@Breezy_Carol, I love the puzzle! Can't wait for flip-flop weather to return!

Tina, so many hugs to you. I hope you start to feel better and that you won't need surgery.

@apirateslifeforme How frustrating that is for you, Josh, and all the teachers. It's just too hard for them to keep switching from virtual, to in person, back to virtual, or 1/2 and 1/2, how can anyone learn, or teach like that? Poor Josh and his meltdowns, but I don't blame the little guy. If I were in his position (or in most kids positions), I would be having them too. :( I hope they get this settled soon! His 'first crush' made me smile, how sweet it must be to see. I hope he makes Ava a pretty drawing of flowers, and don't worry Mama Bear,,I don't think that stage will last too long, lol! I would love to see your 'not burgundy, but purple' hair, that must have been a surprise to your stylist, lol!
Here ya go...I did face the window for some light (didn't want to use the overhead, it makes everything look orange/yellow), but otherwise unfiltered. Also with my Duran Duran mask ;)PXL_20210109_155513474._exported_1505_1610207861911 (2).jpg

I don't remember what I did this weekend. Josh and I worked on his Legos a bit more. He and DH went to my in-laws' house yesterday and I stayed home. I didn't get any time to rest, though, but it was nice to have some quiet. (And that goes for both the kid AND the DH's whining...let's just say that Josh is very much his father's child ;) ).

Josh returned to school today after a month of remote learning. I handed the bus driver her Christmas gift directly, but Josh had his 2 teacher gifts in a shopping bag. I don't how many times I reminded him of it, and even as he got on the bus, I told him again "Don't forget your gifts when you get to school!" A few hours later, I got an email from the bus driver that Josh forgot his gifts, so when she was done for the morning, she drove back to the school and delivered them to the school secretary :headache: That was so nice of her to do that...I wish I'd given her something more as a gift now. She didn't have to do that. But the secretary brought the bag to Josh's class, and while his main teacher was absent today, he did get to give the "room mother" her gift (and he left the teacher gift on her desk...his wasn't the only one, he said).

And yesterday he made this flower for Ava...now THAT he didn't leave on the bus! ;)

Speaking of gifts for girls, the middle daughter of some friends of ours will be 5 later this month. We've been invited to a Zoom birthday party for her; the mom made a wishlist on Amazon (we can have the gifts sent directly to her and she'll open them during the meeting). There's actually a lot of jewelry on the list, so we've joked with Josh, "Here's your first lesson in gifts for girls - flowers and jewelry!" :teeth: (He knows not all girls are like that...like me, his mommy, I prefer nerdy sci-fi books...)

So while he was at school, my mom and I just ran a few errands. I stopped at Michael's because I bought a "Florida botanical" print that I need to frame, and our new Bob Ross calendar had a page with a nice beach scene that we want to frame. Unfortunately the store was doing inventory and it was almost impossible to look at anything. I didn't find a 4x4 unfinished paintable frame for the Bob Ross painting, but maybe I'll order a pack of those from Oriental Trading. Then we went to the grocery store - we were 2 towns away and I really like the one there. It's bigger and more updated than the one in our town, they have a lot of "different" items and it's fun to browse.

Love your purple hair, Apirateslifeforme! :) lol to Josh forgetting the teacher gifts but remembering Ava's flower. As he gets MUCH older that could be quite important (for him to remember special dates and that he has something to tell/give his girlfriend or future wife). I hope his first day back went smoothly.

That's a beautiful Christmas-y scene, Bobbiwoz! Thanks for sharing your puzzle picture with us.

Shirley got her package a month later! :)

Same here,,my friend found it at her front door when she got home from errands this afternoon..and the lindor truffles were still intact..I thought they would be a melted puddle of nothing after sitting who knows where for a month!

We've given it some thought, although the likelyhood is rare that we are positive, we've decided to sit tight and wait for our PCR test results instead of counting on the rapid test to actually be negative. We don't think we have it, we feel fine BUT we'd really feel terrible if by some rare circumstance we did have it and we infected a whole office full of people, and a jobsite to boot (husband & I work in same office, son works on one of our jobsites). We came to this decision after finding out the friends of my son that he saw last weekend were sick mid week and tested positive today via the rapid test. We have a co worker that is a cancer survivor and has a autoimmune thing going on. And she has a much older elderly husband w/ a few health issues. Son and girlfriend are also feeling 100% fine, but as I understand it folks can be asymptomatic and still spread it, so...better safe than sorry. I mean, I am a safety officer so I will walk the talk and practice what I've been sternly telling people they should be doing.

So now we sit here, imagining we feel off or a twinge in our chests. I'm sure it's all in our heads!

Now to think of something productive to do around here tomorrow and maybe Wednesday. I could move sitting room around, or maybe clean the kitchen cabinets (boring). I could break the dining room table back down, had it extended for the holidays...that ought to take up about 3 minutes. Oh - I could take down the dining room curtains & wash them. That would be productive at least. Or maybe wash some windows. I should rearrange the freezer again.

I think that is wise to wait until you have further results. At least your getting them fast where you are. My area it can vary I think depending on the day of the week, wind conditions, and the phase of the moon. My cousin and her husband ended up with Covid and knew within a couple of days. Since they had been around my aunt and uncle they both had to be tested. Two weeks later aunt had all the symptoms and they still had not gotten their test results. I honestly don't think they ever did-just ended up with their doctor telling them over the phone well since you were exposed and were tested and have the symptoms you have let's say you have it and this is what you watch for to know if you need to come in or go to the emergency room and this is how you know you are better. Aunt and Uncle are 77-78 years old but still very active, they are busy planning a trip to Texas, a Trip to Ireland, and one to Australia for when this is over and they can travel plus enjoying the deer that literally come right up in their yard and think they need to eat off their back deck-one even came up on the deck and was looking all so are you going to let me in the house or not.

As far as things to do to keep productive my mom's list of those things always includes such fun things as scrubbing the walls and the ceilings-though since she and my dad are both 71 my sister has told her no more ceilings. At least now she has taken up doing baking instead which is a safer activity. Oiling the cupboards with murphy's oil soap seemed to be another favorite of hers especially if any kid dared to state I'm bored growing up. Another one was cleaning out and organizing the dreaded tupperware cupboard or matching all the mis matched socks.

Good morning QUACK family! Another frosty morning, heading for sun and 45 or so. We wondered why we heard so many firetrucks going down our road at 6 am yesterday. Sad ending to what happened. Fully engulfed house on fire, and they found the70 year old resident dead inside when they could get in. :( Too many fires around here lately, with everyone burning wood stoves. We still haven't lit a fire in ours, got used to having actual heat from a furnace again too quickly. Finally hubby's glasses came in yesterday and we go pick up both his and mine this morning. My over the counter readers are starting to slip down my nose lately , so looking forward to have a pair that actually fit and stay up.
@apirateslifeforme- thanks for posting a pic of yourself and your purple hair, you are so pretty, and I love that shade of purple! Don't know why, but I was expecting it to be a much brigher PURPLE, lol!
@easyas123 I hope your test results come back quickly and are negative, but I think it's smart of you to wait and not risk exposing anyone else.
@bobbiwoz--my niece just finished the exact same puzzle..it's so pretty!f3cb427e7c9deb91f0230944e49b665a.jpg
Have a good day all!

Good morning.

At 8 am, while awake but in bed watching the news and surfing the net, I heard the back hoe in the back yard. We now have a giant hole where the septic tank used to be. Currently not allowed to discharge any waste water out of the house for the next 4-5 hours. We did get showers, breakfast done and cleaned up, and dinner in the crock pot before this. Just have to remember not to flush if the toilet is used. At least something to watch.

@easyas123, so glad both tests negative.

@lynxstch, very sad about the house fire.

Quack and Good Morning to all, 🐥

Easyas123, so glad!

Hugs, Lynxstch that is truly so very sad indeed :(

Sparkle, love the note :)

ETA: I believe, Apirateslifeforme along with perhaps one other friend on this thread recently mentioned wanting to order something on Oriental Trading. OT is offering free shipping on any order through today. Usually this will mean it'll continue a couple more days. Just wanted to share that heads up: ARCTIC21 (is the code)

Bright sunshine and almost 50 so far! Got our glasses, he was fine till he went to climb a step, and the progressive part threw him off. I can see my phone and anything printed fine, but if I look up at the tv or anything , it's blurry. Going to give them a day or 2, and then call and ask them to recheck the glasses. She said they don't advise wearing them until you get up in the morning the next day, and your eyes are 'fresh'? Not something I ever heard of! Something just seems off with them. . Stopped at Gabriel Brothers to look through clearance stuff, but there was so much stuff piled together and you couldn't even move clothes on the racks, so I gave up. Came out with one nightshirt, lol.
Have a great afternoon all!

Sorry about your DH's glasses, Lynxstch. I never heard of that either! I do remember once at a Walmart optometrist being given lenses that were oh my goodness SUPER strong. I immediately had a headache. Finally the eye doctor agreed to cut the strength and that helped (I could still see for driving just fine). I do think the plague has bettered my vision (at least it's not worse) because I am home, not running here and there, and as I have shared am so grateful to God to have let go last year of some longer term emotional stuff. Enjoy your new nightshirt :)

Have a good afternoon everyone. it's still 10:30 or so here!

Good afternoon all -
Well in my hurry to shower & get to the office this morning I forgot to take anything out for dinner....so I'm thinking either some slapped together turkey soup or bacon & eggs. Or possibly grilled cheese & tomato soup.

Placed a order w/ local seafood market. They are still delivering, so I'm still ordering once in a while. Can't tell you how incredibly convenient it is to have them bring it right to me at work. I feel like we've almost gone back in time a bit with how our food delivery has evolved these past several months, in a good way. Used to have a fish monger...a dairy that delivered, that sort of thing. Now it's as if a bit of that personal service and personal touch has been somewhat revived a tiny bit. I hope they've picked up enough business to support the delivery service once everything starts to get back to normal!

Revived our discussion of a bit of R&R, much needed for various reasons. We will see what we come up with.

Hi all,

It's been quite the day for me and I'm exhausted. I sense eat my feelings evening coming on. Nursing home called this morning about my mom's insurance. The insurance company is saying she is rehabilitated enough to live on her own or at least with much help...UMMMMM huh...NO NO NO. I hung up the phone and started crying hysterically because I had such difficult weekend with her and still recovering. The director of the nursing home called right away and reassure me they were working on it and would be helping and the director nursing called to tell me the same. I've been hot mess all day. We are doing phone conference in the morning with nursing home and insurance and myself. Somewhere something has to be wrong and it has to be fixed!

@easyas123 I'm glad your tests are negative but you might want to think about being tested again later in the week depending on how much time between exposure and the first test. I hope you do get some R&R!

@PiratesLifeForMe I LOVE your hair color and cut super cute!

Hope everyone has a great rest of the day. I'm going to go find some chocolate and pizza and anything else that will drown my sorrow today.
