I meant to mention earlier that there is a new series starting tomorrow night on PBS if you are able to get that channel. It's call All Creatures Great and Small based off of James Herriott's books.
I meant to mention this, too! My favorite book series of all time - I am so excited about it! We used to watch the old BBC show but I think this will be even better! :lovestruc We watch Dr Pol a lot, too!

I'm glad your meatloaf turned out well, Sweetpeama. I do also think it's wonderful your children are getting to enjoy some hands on baking/cooking experiences :)

Almost 16 year old actually is in charge of cooking meals several times a week and has been since she was about 12/13. She will even make homemade Kroquets which are bite sized stew meat, vegetables like carrots and peas mixed in potatoes that are mashed and then formed into balls and are breaded and fried, and has done things like homemade orange chicken and homemade teryaki stir fry and rice among other things. She still needs to work on rolling enchaladas and getting brave enough to mix a meat loaf-she doesn't like to touch raw meat, but she will fry items in oil in a pan on the stove which I don't like to do-one of the reasons I asked for a deep fryer on my Christmas wish list and am happy I got one. I have a basket to put everything is and it's even nicer than the open style one my mom had growing up as it has a lid.
13 year old still needs a lot of supervision and for safety reasons we don't let her use the stove-she is allowed to make toast or use the microwave. She helps by making microwave scrambled eggs, cooking bacon on a microwave rack, and baked potatoes in the microwave which she does a great job at. We have to at least watch and be close by when she is needing to measure things out to make things like fudge, pineapple upside down cake, and the cheesy white sauce variation for vegetables.
She also makes popcorn using the microwave popcorn bowl-which if you don't put any butter on it is just like air popped popcorn without having to fight the air popper to get it to work (for anyone who had one of those or your parents had one in the 80s)-though she is not good about sharing with her mama. I make some and she is there with a bowl so I can share with her and comes back more than once for more. She eats by the handfull while I am a piece by piece savory it eater of popcorn.
It's only 45 out, but it's not supposed to get much warmer. It'll be lunch today, plus two more meals in the freezer.

.I bought a Switch in October...and I've been playing Animal Crossing. :teeth: I lost my first island, because the software glitched, so I'm on my second...and honestly, I am loving it. :dogdance: If you know, you know

DD#1 miscarried; she is heartbroken.

We have been having tempatures in the mid 40s this week as well. It sure is different from the mid to high 50s that we had last week. This is unusual for us as we normally get excited when we have tempatures in the low 20s around here due to often having sub zero tempatures. The warmer tempatures have been nice but we still need moisture.

A batch of chilli in my house is not going to make lunch plus a couple of freezer meals even when we make it in the 6 quart crockpot or the big stew pot I have. This is just with DH and almost 16 year old eatting as I can't have any due to my tomato allergy-I need to try a couple of recipes I have for a white chicken chilli or else keep watching to see if it's one of the travelers at the soup and salad resturant in my area so I can order some for delivery to my house (they do their own delivery for a minimium of a $12 order which is a much better deal than ordering through a site that uses one of those places like grubhub or uber eats and paying their delivery fee-though those places will do orders from them as well)-and 13 year old will have a bowl and maybe eat part of 2nd one.

Almost 16 year old and 13 year old went together and bought a switch plus a couple of additional games in late January 2020. My oldest mainly plays though 13 year old will play from time to time with her sister-never solo. Almost 16 year old lost her first island to the software glitch as well. If you are interested in adding her as a friend on the game feel free to message me your friend code so she can add you or she says she can sometime give me her code and I can send it to you via a private message. She is always looking to add people to her friend's list.

My condolances for your daughter. I know others who have found comfort in the book Heaven is For Real both having lost a baby to a miscarriage. I can find the facebook live feed from when the author and his son came and talked at my church a while back and send it to you if you want; though I know they normally travel quite a bit sharing about the book and the story at various places so once this covid stuff is all over she might be able to see them in her area.

We gave DH his gifts tonight consisting of a starwars cats calandar, a mini flashlight which we discovered was open on the side of the packaging and had coroded batteries in it-we are going to send it back as defective and ask for an exchange, some clips to keep the bottom sheet on his side of the bed because the head corner on his side keeps coming off all the time and it's starting to annoy him, and a new winter hat with piece that can come up and cover his lower face to use at work in the freezer- the one he has is about 20 years old and starting to get a hole in the back so having a new one will be nice though as a backup we might see if either almost 16 year old can repair it though she might need some guidance from my mom who does quite a bit of knitting. He seemed to like the gifts we picked out and bought online though his hat is not here yet as it is scheduled for delivery by the 21st so we just showed him a picture and told him that 13 year old picked the color which he doesn't care so much about.

We also gave the girls their Feast of Ephiany 3 Kings gifts tonight as we had to wait because 13 year old does not understand that a picture of something means you are getting that but it has not arrived yet and her package did not arrive until after-originally it was supposed to be the 8th by 9 pm but it arrived on the 7th.
We got her a set of 12 Mexican Train Dominoes which I am going to have to find some rules on how to play that version. I did show her how to play regular dominoes but have no idea how to use the little plastic trains other than to set them aside. Having the dots be in different colors for each number 1-12 is a lot easier for her to learn to play with than all of them being white dots on black tiles. We played a simple draw 5 and if you can't play just draw one play until someone runs out with if that person went first your opponate gets to have one final turn until one person is out and the other(s) could not play game. Much easier than the if you can't play you keep drawing till you can variation or one I used to play against the computer on an old card and board games disk I had that ran on windows 93, 95 and XP back in the day that I played where all the ends had to add up to multiples of 5.

The gift I had ordered for almost 16 year old is not scheduled to be here until close to her birthday but if it is not here in time we are giving her a picture since she understands that this is what your getting it is just not here yet. I ordered and did a curbside pickup and got her some artist loft acryllic paints so she now has 6 colors in the 4 oz size instead of the tiny sample kit size that she keeps running out of certain colors and getting frustrated. I told her she could use some of her gift cards she has from before plus the one she got for Christmas to get some of the other colors. Now would be a good time for her to take advantage of that since they are currently buy one get one for half off so she could make a good dent at getting at least some of the remaining 39 colors not including all of the metalic ones which it doesn't sound like she wants to get into dealing with at least for now.

Between all her different art work she has taken over and turned a good portion of the basement into her studio over the past year since she decided to move downstairs. She keeps trying to convience us that she needs a ceramics kiln but honestly if that was in the budget we would purchase an additional piece of land and spend the money to build her a complete arts and ceramics studio so she could put one as they can get complicated depending on if you go with gas or electric and then there is venting them or using a higher votage current that it is just better to build a place from the ground up if your going to go with firing your own ceramics.
I have told her that if we would ever have the money I would help her do that so she could have her studio plus learn to pour molds for ceramics using the slip they are made out of with the understand that some of the big pieces she might need to hire one of her same age or older male cousins to help her. The slip and molds can weigh quite a bit when wet especially if you are doing something like a big flower pot. These have to be binded together to keep the two haves of the mold together until they set and dry which is why there is a shortage of places in a lot of areas to find any-all the ones who used to do it are now in their 70s and 80s so physically can't anymore or their husband's helped with larger pieces and have passed away. There are a few in their 30s and early 40s in my area that I know of who either pour or fire ceramics but places that do both are very few and far between.
There are a number of kids who were doing ceramics in this area through 4-H every year since the mid 80s to currently so if she had a nice place where people could either purchase pieces to do at home or work on them there in a room at the studio, get paints and brushes along with other supplies, and then return them for either free or reduced cost firing especially if she also had other rooms where people could do things like painting and stuff she could have a decent business doing something that she is passionate about.

While DH and almost 16 year old were downstairs watching a movie and doing a let's react video to it and I was in the bathroom a certain 13 year old decided she needed to attempt to make brownies iin the microwave again. She experimented and added some ground coffee to them. We have no brown sugar that goes in the recipe so no idea if she found and used some white sugar or if she remember to melt any butter along with the unsweetened bakers chocolate.

She was in the front room when I came out of the bathroom so we didn't know about this until DH and almost 16 year old came upstairs a little bit ago. I can see we are going to have to add a I want to make brownies button to her communication app on the ipad along with enforcing the rule that you ask before making something which at least for a while I may need to explain to my oldest that she is going to have to do as well just to set the example and help drive that home for her sister or else explain to 13 year old again that sister is allowed to do certain things because she is older and not get into sister can and will tell me if she needs certain ingredients from the store and will even go in and shop for those particular ingredients-give her time and she will eventually be driving to the store to make the purchases but for now she has the mom or dad driving service for that is still in effect.

Good morning! I am tired out after hubby watched 9 hours of football yesterday, and there are another 3 more games today to get through. At least my Buccaneers won. I am a Patriots fan, but followed Tom Brady when he left and went to FL. So at least I have 1 team left to root for in the playoffs. Putting a roast in the crockpot for dinner, with potatoes, onions, carrots and might add a few mushrooms for him when it's almost done. No other plans for the day. Have a good morning,,going back to sleep for an hour or so, lol!8a7dfffd4c946d90ab45dfad07cd9416.jpg

I'm the same way about meatloaf - I put all the ingredients in a large Ziplock bag, and mush it that way!

We love Mexican Train! Pre-pandemic, we used to play it a lot at DH's parents' house. The trains get put on the little center thing if you can't play, even after drawing. While they are up, anyone can play on "your" chain. (After you pay on it again, you take your train back off.)

I meant to mention earlier that there is a new series starting tomorrow night on PBS if you are able to get that channel. It's call All Creatures Great and Small based off of James Herriott's books.

I saw that, and DVR'd it I couldn't tell if it was a new series or they were re-running the old, description didn't say. Looking forward to it-

We love Mexican Train

The ONLY game we play (we aren't big into games) is Mexican Train Game!

Good Sunday everyone :)

I loved the James Herriot books! I will look into the series, thank you friends for sharing that :)

That is really neat, Sweetpeama! My church used to have a cooking camp for kids over the summer. Perhaps your girls post pandemic might be interested in sharing their enjoyment of cooking with other kids. I would love to see the camp at church expanded to where older kids helped to teach.

Yay to the Buccaneers, Lynxstch! :)

Hi ya'll,

Happy Sunday. It's still cold and dark here. My Matt's colts lost yesterday so little testy at our house but he has good attitude and now won't stress for the rest of the season. I'm thinking about surprising him with a trip NFL Hall of Fame in Canton for the 2021 Inductees because Peyton Manning will be there and that's his all time favorite. The weekend is pricey though and so far in the future in August. I'm starting to make a little plan and details and just sitting ready to decide I will. We are also in discussion for a vacation in early May before schools are out. We will see.

I'm not feeling well. I had hopes that this last treatment would help but it seems to be stop gap effect so we will see what's next. I have 3 month follow up early FEB. It's disheartening to think more surgery but I'm sure that will be what has to happen but I'm not going to borrow trouble and I don't feel that poor right now. Just more in the heart emotions than anything.

I'm making stuffed shells tonight with chicken and spinach and a light cream sauce over it and garlicky green beans.

I'm sending prayers and good thoughts around to all those that need it.

:grouphug: and prayers to you Tina for healing, peace, and future fun travel, too.

It's cooler here today but still much nicer than a couple weeks ago. It may be in the 80's later in the week!

Pajama FYI to share regarding PJ's that have drawstrings. Should the drawstrings be looser and/or longer be sure to tie them before washing the PJ's. I have a pair where the drawstring on one end has completely come out. No way to put it back inside :(

Have a good afternoon, everyone.

I spent most of my day cleaning. Our bedroom is cleaned from top to bottom..everything washed and or dusted, everything vacuumed. Washed all of the blankets we use in the living room when it's chilly and we don't want to turn the heat up. Did the dishes, just went out and vacuumed the inside of the car and washed the windows inside and out. Checked the fluids, cleaned the wiper blades. If I had known it was going to get to 50 this afternoon, I would have washed the car..we will just go through the car wash one day this week to get the salt/sand off it from the ice storm that never was, lol. Hubby is watching football (what else?) and the roast and veggies are cooking away. Can't wait for dinner, I am hungry! Have a nice evening everyone! @flyingdumbo127--hey Mona,,when it gets there, send a little of your 80 degree weather my way please..I'll take around 60-65 please and thank you!

Roast and veggies, I did that yesterday in the crockpot, sounds like a popular meal right now. I also make a choc chip cherry bread from scratch, it turned out delicious!

try putting the drawstring on a safety pin and then pulling it through

football hall of fame, my cousin use to tell me all about the parade in town and the hot air balloon festival around the week’s festivities too.

Dr. Quinn , medicine woman. Love it. Hard to find good shows now. I’ve started watching a few episodes of “ the Middle”. It’s funny. But can’t find a drama that doesn’t involve medicine ( surgeries , yuck) or the police. Need to get back on Netflix and watch “ The Crown”

went shopping this morning with a girlfriend, we chatted while getting dish soap and valentine candy. It was fun to catchup

I am amazed at the energy everyone has with cleaning and shopping. I have been feeling a bit weary lately. I think things are getting to me a bit. Things keep going wrong, not major things so far thankfully but car issues and kid issues and work issues. I can't believe it is only 1/10/21. It seems like a few months should have gone by. I think it is going to be a long year. I have stopped watching all news and rely on DH to filter news stories to me. It is making me too stressed and anxious so I am taking a break. I even took a bit of a break from the computer.

I have a crock pot meal cooking now. I put in boneless chicken breasts, a jar of salsa, a can of black beans, minced garlic, diced onions, a dash of hot red pepper, and a bit of hot chili powder. I will be shredding the chicken and putting it back in the crock pot for a while to soak up all the flavors. Then I will dish it out over garden salad. It smells so good I can't wait for supper.

Jasper seems to be doing fairly well with his meds. He has good days and some days of more coughing. Even then he is still coughing less than he did. We have an appointment at the kennel I have been researching for his evaluation day. So far everyone I have talked with or emailed seems kind and caring. We'll see how it goes.

Tina I hope you feel better and that your Feb appointment brings better news for you.

Bianca and Bernard I am so sorry for your DD and your family. Sending thoughts and prayers your way.

Re doing a drawstring waist band or on a bag is easy.

1. If not all the way out remove the rest of the way

2. If not usuable replace with a new piece the same width of cord or string dependin on what you have. I don't worry about color especially if it will be hidden. If you want you can make it longer than you had before. The reason you can't go wider is the casing-term for the area between the fold and stitching is going to be slightly wider than the cord so it is snug. For example if you have a cord that is 1/4 inch (4/16) in diamater the casing will be 5/16 sometimes 6/16 especially if it was a hand sewn item by a beginning sewer.

3. Using a safety pin close to the size of the cord-hint if you have a wider cord use one of the larger ones trust me it will be easier-insert and gather in sections large enough to cover the pin and then straighten-this will move the safety pin and the cord will follow though the casing to the opposite end. This will takes some time so is b/est done while watching a movie especially if you have a number of items this task needs to be done because you have been putting it off. (Yes I am speaking from experience here). The other alternative to get this done is a child who has stated I am bored but is also willing to do something like this.

4. You will need to do something to prevent the cord from being pulled back through in the future. This is best done with an overhand knot on the ends though you can use a button similiar in size to the opening. For a 1/4 inch cord I would go with one that is between 5/8 and 1/2 inch diameter. You would use a sewing needle to help weave the ends through the buttons using a similiar pattern to sering the button on without having to do as many as it will not be stressed. I will use 2-3 passes in each direction so a 4 hole button would have the 2-3 on each part of the x and a 2 hole on each part of the -. A shank style button that has a u on the underside is not recommended for this though you could possibly do an overhand knot right at the base of the shank. The biggest problem is finding a shank style buttone small enough even if you have managed to get a hold of the button box of someone born prior to 1930.

Was having a pretty good day - got to sleep in, 8 AM very late for me! Got up, browned the stew meat and got that all in the crock pot for beef stew tonight. Made breakfast - scrapple sandwiches. Did some straightening up around the house while my husband had some work to do in the barn. Then after lunch we went to a local Wildlife refuge, Sassafras NRMA for a nice long walk, which we enjoyed very much. Had a long discussion on a mental health R&R getaway at the end of the month/beginning of Feb and decided on the when/where. As we were walking back thru the fields, eldest calls me. Eldest currently lives in our basement apartment as he saves to buy a house, he's handy to have around and we are very much a open door family so he comes & goes upstairs in the main part of the house. Anywho - he calls us, long story short. He & girlfriend were exposed, and those folks are ill but getting tested tomorrow because they were around other folks already ill and positive tests. So yeah, now we are holding off on any R&R get away, and are the proud confirmed appointees tomorrow for a rapid test! Or what the website (MD Dept of Health) described as a rapid test, but admittedly I think it may be wrong. It's a Covid-19 Antigen + 19 PCR test. I'm sure it will be a nasal swab which was anything but pleasant last time I took one way back in the spring. It doesn't matter though, I got a test appt. and that is good. Could be worse, everyone feels well, and we were able to get testing appointments with results "soon". If that is hours vs. days all the better, but I guess I'll find out tomorrow for sure. Whatever that means. And luckily youngest decided not to come home this weekend so he wasn't exposed, so I'm approaching this as a could be worse, probably will turn out alright scenario.

So, take away is we got some much needed Vit. D out in the sunshine and a brisk 4 mile walk outside, both 100% needed. There is a crockpot full of some really good beef stew, and some crunchy french rolls to go with it. Perhaps we will go crazy and have a scoop of chocolate ice cream afterwards! After dinner we are going to have a glass of wine and sit in the hot tub and discuss how long we put off our much needed R&R!!!

Now- off to set the table, the infectors 9eldest & girlfriend) in the basement are joining us for dinner. I think we are going to carpool tomorrow to the testing, as they have appointments at same place for same time :P  nothing like doing things together as a family!!

Wow, I truly and sincerely appreciate the suggestions Sparkle and Sweetpeama! So very kind of you both! I had already set up a return to Amazon (they said not having the tags would not be a problem in getting a full refund). Hope they are right. One end is still in the pants. We could try and pull it completely out. I don't even sew a button! I have elderly friends from church who sew just due to the plague can't see them now :( I will scout around for a safety pin and should I find one try that before going ahead with the return :)

Hugs, Snowysmom and please take care, my friend. Continued prayer also for Jasper!

Oh no! I'm sorry, Easyas123! Prayers for all of you indeed!

We got our snow and it melted by late afternoon. Was so pretty too! The grandkids were so excited!

Days like this drive my husband crazy! He's one of those types that have to be busy all of the time. So he cleaned my oven. It was so bad, I was embarrassed for anyone to see it. I bought the oven cleaner months ago, just never got around to it.

Dinner was chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, cream gravy and mixed vegetables. I don't fry foods much anymore so this was a treat.

The facility that my mom is in has opened back up to visitors. They only have two Covid patients now. They do require N95 masks though which is fine with me.

Good evening.

Watched the Ravens win this afternoon but not must else. Did take down a couple more decorations now that the kids have been here.

Dinner was steamed shrimp and salad.

@easyas123, I've been to Sassafras NRMA. See anything noteworthy? And too bad about the exposure. I hope you stay COVID free.

Settled in to watch All Creatures Great and Small, thanks to your comments.

Prayers you get to see your Mom sometime soon, Kirby!

Carol, and everyone else, I did set All Creatures Great and Small to record tonight. I look forward to reading your thoughts in the morning. One more book to add to my saved library list post plague! Would be fun to reread the books :)

Good morning everyone. @flyingdumbo127-- I was going to suggest the safety pin thing for your pj bottoms also, but they beat me to it, lol. Hope it works, and if not, they are sending you another pair anyhow
Going to be 45 today, but it's a chilly 24 outside right now
So glad the playoff games are over till next weekend. Hubby watched all of 5 1/2 games. I was impressed at the Browns last nite. I never saw anyone get a touchdown 3 seconds into a game, and have 3 in the first quarter before ,lol.
I am a little stiff and sore this morning from all the cleaning, so going to take it easy today. Have some phone calls to make to get things straightened out, and have to call and find out why hubby's glasses aren't in..when they were promised for last Monday.
And guess what..the missing FL pkg has finally made it from MD to FL--and it only took 33 days! Yikes! It arrived in Sarasota FL early this morning and departed that post office 3 hours later. It might actually make it to Englewood FL this week. So much for 'priority mail', obviously not a priority to the postal service, lol . My friend will have to put most of it away until next Christmas :(
Have a lovely morning all :grouphug: 7af9346e873f9e03e801dccba61fc79b.jpg
