Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

@Shellsbutt It is difficult times these days and it is hard not to be stressed and anxious. Sending good thoughts your way. I try to focus on positives where I can find them like listening to music, reading a good book, Hallmark movies, and meditating.

Glad to hear of negative covid tests.

We went to a Market Basket yesterday that we don't usually go to. We went out to breakfast and it was nearby. DH went to the deli to get thin and trim deli turkey that we always get. He was the only one there and waited. There were 2 women working there and both were very obviously ignoring him. One pretended to do some straightening up while the other just keep peeking out to see if he was still there. Finally the meat manager went over and asked one of the women to wait on DH. She said No. He asked again and she again said No. Then the other woman decided to ask DH is he wanted anything. He said No and walked away. I really hope the manager took care of it. I was flabbergasted when DH told me the story. If you aren't going to do your job then just go home. We stopped at our usual Market Basket on the way home to get the turkey. They know us there and especially DH as he does the shopping every week. When he goes shopping the deli lady starts slicing the turkey as soon as she sees him coming down the aisle. What a difference in service.

The Christmas tree is making my allergies act up. I told DH next year we have to get an artificial tree. I hope I can make it through this season. My eyes itch and I am all stuffy. We haven't decorated it yet, probably during the week. Today we hope to start wrapping the grandkids gifts.

It is rainy here and around 42. Tomorrow it is supposed to be in the mid fifties and sunny.

Happy Saturday.

Sunny and 60 here. Walmart was a zoo. Apparently Walmart employees get an extra 15% discount on top of their regular 10% one, good for one week this time of year. Every register was packed, carts piled as high as they could go. I bet there were more employees shopping than normal Saturday morning customers, lol. For a change, the cleaning supply row was almost fully stocked. Clorox with bleach, Great Value brand with bleach, pinesol, lestoil, plenty of cannisters of disinfecting wipes. I was amazed. Fortunately I have so much of it stocked downstairs that I walked right by, lol.
I got 1 missing Amazon pkg in the mail today (funny thing is,,it was in a Walmart box, and had a Walmart.com shipping label on it?)
Other 3 pkgs are still missing in transit somewhere, hopefully they will all show up this week. One of them was priority mail pkg which was shipped from PA on Tuesday, we are only in MD, so you think it could have made the trip in 4 days, but nope!
Dinner tonite is going to be chicken tenders, shrimp spring rolls, and maybe a salad or fruit. Off to do a relaxing beauty treatment..I need it, lol!
Have a nice evening all

Yikes to your DH's Market Basket experience, Snowysmom, that's awful. I'm sorry about your allergies :(

I'm glad at least one of your missing packages showed up, Lynxstch. That is very odd an Amazon package came in Walmart box!

Warming up a little here, still cool-ish in the apartment. We did put on Christmas-y tablecloth, the Happy Winter sign along with a tinsel Christmas Tree (from Dollar Tree) on the kitchen wall. All that festive decor brightened things up.

Do any of you know whether such a thing exists as a colorful Happy New Year sign (either hanging, wooden tabletop, cutout, etc.)? All I seem to come across as choices in dark colors, or that have lots of glitter on them, or toasting to the New Year--don't drink. Just would love something simple and cheerful. Even something similar to a Dollar Tree Happy Birthday cardboard centerpiece that says Happy Year would work. Thanks, friends :)

Today started out foggy but finally got sunny and warmed up to 60 about 2. We took a walk in the neighborhood about 1 3/4 miles. So nice out. And should be nice again tomorrow.

I got another Amazon delivery of three things for the grands. Still waiting for an item for my son-in-law. Ordered once and it never came and was returned. Ordered again November 24. Hasn't shipped yet. And one for DH that was supposed to arrive by 8 yesterday but now it MIA. Amazing how my Weight Watchers package get here so quickly.

Finally the meat manager went over and asked one of the women to wait on DH. She said No. He asked again and she again said No.
How did she refuse her boss and still remain employed?

Dinner might be shrimp or maybe not. Depends how I feel. :confused3

Afternoon all.

@Breezy_Carol Glad you got most of your deliveries. I have Prime and have more issues with some items, usually books getting delivered. I need to order a couple for my nephews but of course the link my sister in law sent me is not working.

We have to get my husband's meds by mail order and I have been fighting them all week. The package according to tracking was in Avendel NJ and delayed since Dec. 4th. The company can't do anything but authorize an emergency order, that I have to pay for AGAIN, at the pharmacy but not til next week. Today the package moved finally to North NJ. Still no estimate on delivery. Thankfully I still have a small supply left and hopefully this will get straightened out soon. I wouldn't care if it was one of the diabetic meds as he takes 3 and I can stretch them out. This med is a blood thinner he needs to prevent clots which is what caused his 2 strokes. That was a dark period and we are lucky he is about 85% of what he was. Hs balance is horrible and his vision is pretty much non existent in one eye, and I noticed he starts to shake on his left side. My daughter told me that it's normal based on the area and the damage the strokes were in. But he is alive and here to drive me insane and that is the important thing. Hopefully this will get straightened out by Monday or Tuesday.

Quiet day here for the most part. The tree is still standing so that is a good thing. The little tree in my kitchen window died and I did not have the energy to get a new one today, maybe tomorrow.

@Snowysmom I too am confused about your husbands experience at Market Basket. Why on earth would 2 clerks who work there, refuse to wait on any customer? Kudo's to your husband for saying no when someone finally asked him if he needed help. I would be sending an immediate email complaint to executive/corporate offices of Market Basket if that had happened to me or anyone I knew!

I hope the manager escalated the employees refusal to work. DH did not want to go to the store manager while I did. Since it happened to to him I deferred to him. We won't be going back to that store. I still can't believe an employee refused to wait on a customer. It is mind boggling. She did refuse to listen to a manager so hopefully she at least got a reprimand.

Do you have a color printer? You could print out some free clip art and Mod Podge it to a piece of wood to hang up. Something like this:
543528

Or maybe get something like this menu stand:543530
and then you could change the insert for different holidays.

Prayers for your DH, and you, too, TazDev!

Something was very amiss, Snowysmom that's for sure! I'm glad you do have a much better Market Basket to shop at!

I finished watching "A Christmas to Remember." For some reason it did not record the first twenty minutes or so when Jennifer (Maggie for most of the movie) must have had her accident and as a result had amnesia. The end when her friends ended up finding her was creepy to me and not in keeping with the feel good rest of the story. I did love the Blake log cabin house, so cozy and Christmas-y! John was very handsome! Still have the two movies from yesterday to check out. I hope each of you are having a good Saturday.

You must have posted just as I did, PollyannaMom! That's great, thank you, my friend :)

Had a great day ice skating and window shopping in the holiday market at Bryant Park today. We met DGD’s “bestie” and mother there early afternoon and didn’t get home until an hour or so ago. My thighs are killing me now but it was worth it just to be outside pretending it was pre-pandemic times. Note to self: do more ankle circles whilst exercising!
Made a date to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art and see the crèche collection together just before Christmas, assuming the museum is still open (fingers crossed!).
Finishing the last of the brisket, made a few more latkes (AKA potato pancakes) for dinner tonight. DGD insisted on Lipton’s chicken noodle soup instead of the matzoh ball chicken soup so I just added leftover veggies and dill to her soup for the “green effect“. She’ll have the last mini black and white cookie and some ice cream for dessert.

Made the base for the RI clam chowder this morning minus the potatoes since I don’t think that starch freezes well; I’ll add the taters day of use. One more CE dish prepped and out of my hair!

Thanks, NYCgrrl for bumping back up our thread! :) I'm so glad you've had a nice day. Get some rest tonight!

Santa Squad didn't do much to draw me in. Will try the other, something Holly later or tomorrow. Is anyone going to record the new Glenbrooke movie tonight? It didn't initially grab my interest but guess never know!

Good evening wishes to all!

Good morning all, hope everyone is having a good weekend The weather took a turn for better and I got so much done yesterday! Even got a big outside cleaning chore done - it's a once every few months type of thing so I'm glad to have the off my plate for the immediate future. Got the whole dang house cleaned up as well, and made some fudge! Unfortunately one of the dogs was sick this morning around 4. sick sick - I have no idea what he got into, so I shuffled him outside since he was dancing to go and got out the mop and bucket. Had to go outside at 4:30 to collect him up as he decided that 4:30 would be the perfect time to take a nice wander. I was that crazy lady in her pajamas with a flashlight calling for the dog early this morning!

Today is ham & bean soup in crock pot, a possible trip to Target for stocking stuffers and firewood before the weather goes from mild to very chilly next week.

Good morning.

Just finished online church and getting ready to walk in Fair Hill.

No test results for us, but unsurprisingly, son-in-law is also positive. They all seem ok though. They are angry at seeing friends on social media doing whatever they want and going out but their family got the virus when they follow precautions.

FYI, there is a show on HGTV at 6 tonight that is a tour of the White House decorations. I plan to watch since we won't be going this year. That was a perk of DS's job, he would get us Christmas White House tours.

Good morning everyone. Our temps are on a downward slide starting today. Only going to be a high of 40 tomorrow..and they are saying low of 16 one night. Glad I put drygas in the car when we got gas yesterday. One upside of the pandemic, using a lot less gas as we are going a lot less places. Cost us $12.86 in gas for the last month, lol! May take a run to Martins (Giant) today and get some of their sale items. Nothing else planned. Added 2 more movies to my Christmas bunch to watch, so I have to get to that. Have a great day everyone!244568-Disney-Good-Morning-Happy-Sunday.jpg

I don't know what happened to my post earlier. I posted this same thing at 5 am..and when I looked just now..it was gone :( Since then I have washed the kitchen and bathroom floors, put a roast pork with kraut and apples in the crockpot for dinner..and I am done for awhile

Can I send hubby to your house for dinner? He'd rather have that than the roast pork that's in the crock pot, lol!
Firewood from Target? I didn't know they sold it!

First, 🐣🐤🐥 Quarantine, Chill and Kindness Greetings to All! Have been reading but not a lot of time to post. Had some crazy busy shifts at work, along with informational sessions about the upcoming Covid vaccine we’re being offered. Many people in the hospital right now are very sick with numerous problems. It‘s been that way for a while. Speaking of which, @tazdev3225 I hope you can get those meds asap, especially the anticoagulant! Escalate it as needed!

@Snowysmom I had a situation this summer with a store I usually shop in. They had already sliced and packaged up some cold cuts for people to just pick up out of a case. I’d done it before with no problem. I saw a small package of roast beef and picked it up for DH and I to each have a sandwich. When I opened it :earseek:! It was literally all fat and gristle from the end of the roast. Having worked in a deli in college I could not believe that someone working there would actually package this up! So I wrote to the company (not just the store) and told them about that and a few other little issues I’d had and they put me in touch with the store manager and assistant manager (who no doubt would be quizzed on the resolution of the problem, I’m sure). It seemed they wanted to blow it off a bit until I showed them the pictures of the meat. Then they were as shocked as I was, saying both had risen to store managers from being deli managers first. They were falling over themselves to make things right and get me back into the store. (Even though I had never said I wouldn’t go back.) I told them I was good with it as long as they figured out who was working that day (date was on it) and talked to those involved. Manager made me promise to look him up with I was in the store, so I did. We had a really nice conversation, and before I left, he sent someone over to me at the checkout with a gift card. Overall a pleasant ending to the situation. People have gotten so grumpy tho, these days.

We were out all day yesterday in the pouring rain! Most of our shopping has been done but we had a few things we still had to get, and, like many of you, I got my haircut! I gave my hairdresser her gift and some chocolates from a specialty candy store, and it was fun watching her excitement eating one! It made my day! We had lunch in a place we’ve ween wanting to try, and it was really good. Then we picked up some soup from Olive Garden for dinner (Zoupa, does anyone else like that here?) and a quick run into Aldi’s where we picked up our ham for Christmas Eve. I worked over the entirety of Thanksgiving so it felt nice to be able to get into a little bit of holiday excitement even though it is what it is this year. I just kept in mind while we were out that DH and I were lucky to still be together and still have our health and all that. We were talking yesterday and realized that we are now older than our parents were when we started dating 40 years ago! We’ve been emotional because my FIL started hospice treatment last week. I hesitated to post about it because, honestly, I was having difficulty with it myself. This is now the second Christmas in a row we’ve had a parent on hospice. And with everything else from this year it just made me really sad for a few days. Thank you for your prayers for him. My friend’s father is doing better, thankfully. I know a lot of people who have Covid right now so I’m trying to just keep things in perspective and enjoy what we can enjoy, even if it’s the small things. We got to see FIL for a while last evening and he was peaceful, which is a blessing in and of itself.

Our biggest run-around yesterday was to Michael’s. I had picked up some sweet prints on our birthday trip to NH for DD and DS’s girlfriend. Trouble was, I had to find frames and they are a bit of an odd size. The first Michael’s didn’t really have what we needed. We could’ve made something work but it wouldn’t have been as nice as I wanted them to look. So we tried another which I was in a few weeks ago with DD (I tend to avoid those types of stores, lol) and thankfully we found something suitable. Still not exactly what I‘d had in mind, but they’ll look nice. I’ll post a pic when done. They’ll like them as they all had so much fun this summer up there. DD is starting to put some things aside for when she gets her own place so this will go right in with those.

I got DD a bit of a surprise present, I’m excited about it. I got her a pair of Frye boots that I saw for a great price in a color she doesn’t have. She‘s had a brown pair since early HS and they are so nice and worn in, still look beautiful. (My sister and I always had Frye boots and they last forever.) I got her some nice black ones. Funny thing was, I ordered them on Black Friday when they were 60% off. I wasn’t exactly sure of her size (she can fluctuate) so I took a guess and ordered a 10. When she left for work next morning I went up into her closet to check the size of the other ones and they were a 9.5! 😰 I prayed they were still on sale, so I checked, and they were, and they had a 9.5 so I ordered those, too, figuring I would bring the 10s back to the store right away (Nordstrom Rack) or consider giving them to DS’s girlfriend (going to say future wife, if I’m a betting person) so no harm, no foul. Well since that time I’ve gotten numerous emails that their shipping was delayed as there were stock issues. Finally a few days ago I got a notification that they 9.5’s had shipped! Yay! Then the next day I got a notification the order for the 10’s was cancelled as they were out, and they’d refunded my money! Another yay! I’d already gotten DS’s girlfriend a slow cooker with many other features along with some cookbooks, as she loves to cook, and I have the print from NH and some stocking stuffers so that will work out pretty well, I think. Two years ago I got all the men in our family Uggs slippers from NR they were $59 and I thought, a great and easy gift. Everyone loved them (and they all fit!). So this year I thought I’d do the same for DD’s boyfriend (who’s a peach). They’d gone up a little but I was happy I was able to get him a pair and I think he’ll really like them. I also got him a small crockpot for his apartment along with a cookbook so he can maybe make himself some easy meals. It’s just us this year with no Yankee Swap as we usually do with the extended family, so I didn’t mind splurging a little.

DS is finishing up his college classes as of tomorrow, so I will have my second college graduate of the year! Another HUGE Yay!! Lol. He’d had just two classes to make up and he did them online at home three nights/wk faithfully, usually running in from his commute home from work and running upstairs yelling hello as he ran past us so he could sign in on time! We had a chuckle last week when DD and I were in his room while he was in class. He went to the bathroom and we noticed in place of a live view he had a picture of himself. Professor asked for a show of hands about something so DD (who’s a 2020 graduate of the same college so is familiar with the format) made his picture “wave”. 😂 We started cracking up so DS comes running in from the bathroom wondering what we did and he had a laugh about it as well! (I don’t think he would’ve “waved” on his own.) Last week he was struggling to get his Capstone project done (he is working FT), but he finally finished It and it came out really great! He’ll be going into police work so it was really interesting reading the history of that and, in particular, the history of police and the black community. Between that and his working in security among the homeless this year (not to mention being raised by a nurse and now has a twin sister who’s a nurse), I know he is developing a lot of sensitivity about a lot of different things that will help him serve with a kind and good heart (as he already does; some of the stories he brings home warm my heart). For graduation I am having a plaque made with a picture of him in his college baseball uniform along with his locker ID (that has his name and number on it as well as the team logo) and a saying on it that should be done soon. Can’t wait. And, like I did for DD since there is no college graduation ceremony, I’ll be making him a video put to music with a variety of pictures from his college days. The past few days I’ve been trying to decide on a song for it, and I decided on this one. It will be a tearjerker, but it’s what I want to say to him. See what you think.

Sorry for the book. ☺️ Like all of you, I struggle with the stresses of the times and season, with seeing the good. There is still a lot of good among us, so we have to keep that in mind!

🐣🌷:grouphug: and Godo Morning to all!

I’m sorry you had to take an early morning, and probably cold, dog search Easyas123. I hope he’s feeling better! Good for you getting all that cleaning done and fudge making, too, wow. I hope Target goes smoothly and well!

Continued prayers Carol for you and your whole family! I need to watch online church, looking forward to it! That is so cool you got to see the White House Christmas decorations.

Love the Bambi and Minnie picture+ message, Lynxstch! So spring-y and true. I am sorry your post vanished :(

Many hugs, Pea. Thank you for letting us pray for your FIL. So thankful he was peaceful during your visit last night, that indeed is a Blessing. I look forward to seeing your pictures! :) Shopping yays indeed all-around, see how things work out? Much congratulations to your graduating DS!

I wanted to like Christmas With Holly but just didn't. I have a Love Inspired book called Healing Autumn's Heart. The story is about a young child named Autumn who following her mother's death chooses to stop speaking for the most part. God places Autumn and her dad in a new hometown where they and the Grandma meet lovely people and become part of a church family. Sure enough Autumn regains her speech. The movie just was choppy! I never did record A Glenbrooke Christmas. Decided it just didn't (in description) appeal to me. I'll see what's on today.

Happy Sunday friends :)

Busy week for me here. Getting “used” to my new iPad, downloading what I needed. Also, we are using gifster.com again this year to exchange gifts remotely with our 3 kids this year, so I have been searching and adding links for items for them to give me, gently encouraging DH and DD30 to add items to their lists, picking out and buying items for the kids and their pets. We finally got around to talking to an estate attorney (by phone) earlier this year to write wills, living wills, health care POA and durable POA. The documents were finalized this week, and we went in Thursday to sign them. It feels good to have them done after talking about doing it for years. I really feel that we did too many things this week that were somewhat risky Covid wise this week, the Best Buy trip to buy the iPad, the signing of the documents, DH’s haircut, our carpenter and a plumber stopping in on Tuesday for a very brief look see at a plumbing issue (which turns out can wait until we renovate), and I am sure there were others. We social distanced, masked up etc, but I still feel anxious when either of us in close quarters with another person not in our bubble (1 other person). We have a tiny bubble. At least the paper signing Thursday was in a big conference room, and the 2 ladies who came in to witness, only came in for a few minutes, sat across the enormous table. The whole thing lasted 30 minutes, so I think our risk was minimal. We also are having the exterior of our house painted, and I am trying to finalize the color for the body and the trim. I tried to go into the paint store that handles Benjamin Moore and retreated due to the lack of mask compliance, even though there’s a sign on the door and its mandatory in my state. Instead, I spent a few hours during the last two days on the Benjamin Moore website and have some ideas, when we get a sunny day I will try to narrow it down and order pints in the colors I want. I was told they would do curbside pickup. I have to get with the program because think the painter will be ready to start soon.

On the vaccine front, it sounds like my mom who lives in an assisted living unit in a LTC facility will get the vaccine soon after the Moderna vaccine is approved by the FDA and shipped to our state. I will breathe easier when she gets that second shot. We will get ours later as soon as its offered, whenever it is.
