Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

Not a fan of Halloween, Thanksgiving is okay, but I love Christmas the most. I also think it will be very different this year, and much more low key.

Weatherman almost got it right today. He said 100% chance of rain all day. ,Temp is 68 and it started raining about an hour ago, lol. Got the yard weedwacked before it rained, and cleaned out the shed. Also got laundry done.So at least I feel like I got something done today. Now tomorrow I don't have to do anything. Stepson just called and said he's coming up this weekend to visit (mostly for his Fantasy Football league) but at least we get to see him, haven't seen him since before last Christmas! He has promised to shower at the hotel before coming over, and using hand sanitizer the whole time he's here. Just hope he doesn't want to eat out somewhere, as we aren't comfortable with eating in restaurants just yet!
Have a lovely evening everyone..so glad to see your good update @PollyannaMom

I totally missed the QOTD! Christmas is my very favorite time of year! It is a precious season for me because Jesus is precious to me. I am looking forward extra though to Thanksgiving this year. It will be with an extra grateful heart that I celebrate that Thursday with my Dad. I am not a fan of traditional Halloween at all. I do enjoy Trunk or Treat at church but as I shared with a friend this morning I am not sure in years to come I'd participate in that again due to the enormous (for me) cost. I certainly pray 2021 will be a kinder, healthier, and brighter time for all!

Hi All,

Loads and loads of stress here in the Tina heart and mind. On Friday, my mom wasn't feeling that great and by Friday night I was being told it was escalating and by Saturday afternoon mama was put into isolation. The nursing home calling to tell me what's going on and my mom crying and yelling wanting to get back to her room and all I could do was try to get her to breathe with me and practice counting backwards while we put herself behind the lion in the cage. (visual we do when she is scared to hide behind the lion that protects her) and trying to do all this without breaking down. So the nursing home did a Covid test Saturday evening and still no results. I don't believe at all it's Covid and is her hyponatremia (low sodium) rearing it's ugly head after her cancer treatment week prior. While she has been in isolation she received two bags IV fluid and massive dose sodium pills and I understand it has helped settle down some. Yesterday morning about 2am she called begging me to come get her and all I could do was try to get her settle down and called the nursing home with request to sedate her or give her something more because I can't have her doing this all the day and night making herself worse. Oh and my aunts and uncles calling/texting tell me that if I'd been doing my duty as a good daughter we wouldn't be having this now. Thanks for no offer of help but boat loads guilt. I'm just waiting for nursing home to call and tell me her test is negative and can go back to her room.

QOTD: National Parks:
Grand Canyon
Petrified Forest
Big Bend National Park
Indiana Dunes
Red Rock Canyon (is that a national park?)
Death Valley
Great Smoky Mountains
Shenandoah National Park
Mammoth Cave
Cumberland Gap
Whitesands
Carlsbad Caverns

I'm sure I'm missing alot more than I'm not thinking of such as anything in Boston or D.C.

Holidays coming up: I'm feeling unsure right now. Trying to feel hopeful for some fun activities with family and friends. I'll try to be grateful and thankful and enjoy no matter how we do it this year.

@lovemygoofy Dear Tina..sorry to hear about your Mother. Do NOT let your relatives blame you or make you feel guilty. You are doing what you have to as her daughter, as hard as it is. I hope they get a negative result and that she is back in her own room soon, where she feels safe and sound. Hang in there, you have all of your DIS family standing backing you up if you need us. Lynn :grouphug:

Big , Tina. That is so stressful. I think you and I might be related, as your relatives sound very much like mine...

Hug, apirateslifeforme, one step at a time, my friend! What kind of lunchbox did Josh get? :) I'm so sorry he and his best friend won't be in the same class. I do hope they still get to see one another at school. Do the Kindergartner kids have to wear a mask all day?
I just got him a little $3 cheapie lunchbox from the "dollar" section at Target. He only needs it 2x per week, and I didn't want to spend a lot since it's going to get messed up in the end. There are always stains that can't be removed at some point. Yes, the kindergarten kids have to wear a mask all day, not just at school, but even at the bus stop and while on the bus as well. Once at school, they'll get "mask breaks" (when they're outside) and they can take it off for snack and lunch, too. But otherwise, it needs to stay on. I hope I'm doing the right thing...

QOTD : have you been to any of the 61 national parks in the USA?
With all the states I've visited, I have not been to any of the national parks. How sad is that?

So...my mother is back to her normal crabby self. Right on schedule, 6 days after returning home. It's ALWAYS the 6th day. We went to the grocery store this morning and she interrupted me when I'm tried to show her something, she wouldn't let me look at anything, she got mad at me for not putting things in the cart the way she wanted them put in (seriously), she went off on the cashier because the lady was trying to input a number correctly (on produce) so our coupon would be applied, and then she "wanted to get the hell out of here" so she violently shoved the cart out of the cashier lane - right into my ribs, which are now actually bruised from the handlebar hitting me so hard. When we came home, she hightailed it up to her bedroom and stayed there all afternoon. I got the email from Josh's school principal regarding iPad distribution, so I went to tell her what time...she glared at me, shrugged, and said, "Fine. Whatever." And stomped off.

Like my stress level isn't high enough right now...my kid is going to a new school, EVERYONE has a new routine of which they're unsure, and now I need to also worry that I'm going to merely look at her the wrong way. I hate my life.

For our scavenger hunt, I saw these at the grocery store and thought they were cute:

And then something a bit offbeat...You can tell it's late summer/early autumn in CT when you see these on the road (and pray that you don't get stuck behind them!) ;) :

Mama back in her own room. Test is negative. Hopefully we all sleep tonight. Thank you all for good thoughts and support and place to vent.

Oh I forgot share this pic I snapped at grocery store. Reminded me of fall and this thread.

I wish peace for your mother, as well as you, this evening. And a good nights sleep.

Hi all.

Today we went and worked on emptying MIL's room in assisted living. Got a lot done with DH and his sister bur have to go back.

Dinner tonight was chili and salad.

A local news station just posted this on Instagram....

Which one are you most looking forward to?
Of those, a toss up between Thanksgiving and Christmas. But mostly election day.

Oh and my aunts and uncles calling/texting tell me that if I'd been doing my duty as a good daughter we wouldn't be having this now. Thanks for no offer of help but boat loads guilt.
This is just wrong. I feel bad for you Tina. You should not have to deal with this as well as dealing with your mom.

Currently on a Zoom church meeting. Multitasking.

QOTD : have you been to any of the 61 national parks in the USA?
Lots. Need to look at my NPS passport and make a list. Some of these may not be parks but are national sites that have a passport stamp. Going through the stamps now. Some have different stamps from different locations in the park but I am just listing the park.
Shenandoah, Acadia, Yorktown, Jamestown, Star Spangled Banner NHT, Appalachian Trail, Harper's Ferry, Antietam, Catoctin, Gettysburg, Fort McHenry, Assateague Island, Valley Forge, Schuylkill River, Chincoteague, Bombay Hook DE, World War II Memorial, President's Park - The White House, Old Post Office Tower, Wright Brothers, Fort Raleigh, Cape Hatteras, Fort Frederick, Fort Pulaski, Grand Canyon, Alcatraz, Sunset Crater, Montezuma Castle, Golden Gate, Point Reyes, Mojave National Preserve, Red Rock Canyon,Muir Woods, Kenai Fjords, Alaska Public Lands, Mendenhall Glacier, Klondike Gold Rush Seattle and Skagway, Southest Alaska Discovery Center, Iditarod National Historic Trail, Cedar Breaks, Great Falls VA, Old Spanish National Historic Trail, Red Canyon, Zion, Bryce, Flight 93 Memorial Shanksville PA. It is great having the passport for the National Parks and getting it stamped. We have multiple stamps for some of the east coast ones.

We have a National Parks Pass and love to visit national parks, and state parks too.

I looked at the link that you provided because I actually wasn't sure where I have been. I've been to more than I thought.

Carlsbad Caverns
Gateway Arch
Grand Canyon
Great Smoky Mountains
Hot Springs
Redwood
Rocky Mountain
Shenandoah
White Sands

Chance of rain here through Friday with highs in the 80's all week! Whoo hoo!

Dinner tonight was Sloppy Joes with regular and sweet potato fries.

Good morning DIS family. Is everyone sleeping in today? It's 10:30 and we are almost down to the bottom of page 1. Our weatherman said we had zero chance of rain today, well it's been dumping down rain for the last 2 1/2 hours. This is more rain than we got out of Hurricane Lauren, lol. It just makes me want to lay down and take a nap, sure don't feel like doing chores. Maybe this afternoon I will have more energy. I just keep thinking--it's Sept 1, it's almost Fall. We have been at it with this thread for almost 6 months now. Things are a little more 'normal' in some ways, and in others it's more abnormal than it was. I keep hearing about schools opening, and then having to close as kids test positive, and I worry about my grandkids being able to go to school like they always did. To be able to play with their friends, do their sports activities etc. One granddaughter will be doing virtual learning, as she has a kidney issue, and her Mom is afraid to send her to school with a compromised immune system The other one is begging to go to school , not doing it virtual, so she can be with her friends. Then again, she is 14, lol. 2 of the other grandaughters will be at least starting school, in school, and not at home. The last one is in college, and they still haven't decided if they will be 100% online all year or not. I'm guessing a lot of people are in that situation too.
And because I complained about the rain, the sun just now decided to pop out while the rain is dying down. Maybe there will be a rainbow to wish on! Have a great day everyone! 🌦
