Question of the day: 4/6: What's a favorite flavor of cake?

I'm one of the odd ones that doesn't really like chocolate cake. Of course I don't turn it down because it's cake but my favorite flavor is probably strawberry cake and strawberry icing or strawberry shortcake. I also love lemon cake and chocolate icing. Odd combination I suppose but I like it. My husband's favorite is carrot cake or peanut butter cake. But like me, there's really no bad cake flavor.
I think German chocolate is my favorite! I can never get it because nobody else in the house likes the coconut in the frosting. We have an Italian bakery in our town that makes an awesome German chocolate cannoli, too :)

Does cheesecake count as a cake flavor?

I agree that there is no bad cake flavor, though...

I'm honestly not a cake person. I'd rather have cookies or brownies even. If there's cake I'll still eat it... it's just not my favorite.

I've made some pretty delicious cakes for people though and of those were a fresh strawberry cake....OMG the frosting was sooo good. My aunt said she could've just eaten by the spoonful.

Will pinterest links work here?? https://pin.it/9X7EgsZ

Another was a chocolate cake with this peanut butter frosting for my hubby's birthday....yum and I don't even like peanut butter.

My husband buys me the most amazing really dense chocolate fudge cake with fresh raspberry filling and glaze, it really is more pudding/fudge in texture so it freezes really well. Each birthday he gets me a large cake and we cut slices and freeze them individually to eat throughout the year, we totally busted out some cake on Friday!!!

I also love lemon cake, add some raspberry filling and a nice whipped cream frosting, yum!!!

It's all about the chocolate.
My favorite is dark chocolate cake with dark chocolate frosting......dark chocolate shavings around the sides.
Sooooo......good.

Next would be a "good" carrot cake with cream cheese frosting

OMG..you and I would get along famously..we can each share half of the dark chocolate cake..my favorite!

My mother had to work outside of the home to support our family. My father could not sustain physical labor so he didn't have a full time work schedule. But he was in strong physical shape to hunt in the breaks of the Snake River for elk with other farm neighbors. So my mother would make a carrot cake for their 10 day hunt in eastern Oregon. And that was the only time of the year that she would make a delicious desert.. moist and flavorful, each bite a delight....a carrot cake topped with cool whip out of the popular tub introduced in the 70s. But that carrot cake for my sisters and I became a quest for a childhood flavor....alas, we never found it in any of the bakeries or bake sales .....stuffed with fresh garden carrots, frozen zucchini squash, cups of walnuts and.....pineapple slices on top

come to find out.....it was upside down pineapple cake....with a farmers twist.

Question of the day: 4/6: What's a favorite flavor of cake?

there's really no bad cake flavor.
I agree that all cake is good These responses are killing me. Now I want cake, any cake.

The favorite in this house is marble cake with chocolate frosting. I use Duncan Hines cake mix but home made frosting. My adult kids still request this if I bake a cake for their birthdays.

Runner up is chocolate cake with buttercream frosting.

Yesterday was DH's birthday celebration with family (real birthday is Wed.).
He wanted a cake fro Target......it is a quarter of 4 different flavors. I picked it up yesterday morning.
Cake with cream cheese frosting, red velvet with cream cheese frosting, chocolate chocolate frosting an caramel with a light caramel topping and caramel beads on top

Finished One Punch Man season 1 on Friday.

Saturday was our son's 20th birthday. His birthday gift was a room remodel. Mostly cleaning and painting and moving stuff around and some new decorations.

Scored a 12 count roll of toilet paper this weekend while getting groceries for my parents. So we are good for another week or two.

Watched Moana (for the first time) on Sunday. Was going to watch Hereditary, but my wife balked on it. Yesterday is the anniversary of her mom's death, and watching two different movie with a dead matriarch was just too much. Ended up playing Mario Kart 8 and JackBox games.

Working from home is really working out well so far, at least for me.

Wife and daughter recorded their introduction to Easter service. I still have to do my invocation.

We get that cake often. LOL Its nice to have the variety.

Congratulations, Tina on your A! :) Enjoy your cake tonight, too.

Three positives from today:

Rain overnight
A sweet email from a church friend
Being able to thank an Amazon Delivery man for delivering right now

My favorite kind of cake :cake:would be white cake with chocolate fudge frosting. Fudgy not dark chocolate. (I'm a milk/sweeter chocolate person) I also agree with another poster about the awesomeness of ice cream cake! I used to love those--just ice cream, no cake. Chocolate cakes (to me) can be hit or miss because often times the cake is dry. Not sure why that is but true. Sure a moist chocolate cake with chocolate frosting would be fine with me :D

:hug:to all always

My favorite cake is red velvet. My recipe is from a friend's mother, and it's incredible. The frosting is amazing- you start by making a sort-of white sauce, cool in fridge, add sugar and butter. It comes out with almost a chewy texture. That doesn't sound right, for sure, but it is AMAZING.

Our family favorite is what my MIL's brother, Uncle Wally, called "Pig Pickin' Cake" because that's what people would take to a pig picking (basically a pig roast, but they shred the meat for BBQ). It's basically a butter cake mix with mandarin oranges in it, and the frosting is instant vanilla pudding, crushed pineapple, and cool whip. It's pretty delicious. We're also fond of German chocolate cake.

Sorry to stray from the cake question but I've got three very ripe bananas I need to so something with. Anybody have a recipe they could share for basic banana bread(muffins?) or something like that??

I only have the 3 bananas and basic baking items as I'm not planning on going to the store anytime soon. Thanks....

The original red velvet cake frosting was a cooked one. That is what I grew up with.
But now everyone likes cream cheese.
I am not a fan of red velvet.......not enough chocolate flavor!!! But DH's favorite and also DIL's (well one of them)

  • Cooked Frosting:
  • 1 cup milk (or cream)
  • 1/3 cup flour (all-purpose)
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar (granulated; superfine is ideal)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

  • In a saucepan, whisk together the 1/3 cup flour and milk and cook, stirring, until thickened; cool in the refrigerator. Beat butter, sugar, and vanilla with mixer. Add flour and milk mixture a little at a time (make ahead of cake so that it has plenty of time to cool). Beat well for several minutes or until the mixture is not grainy, adding milk (or cream) as needed. Frost layers, sides, and top of the cake.

There is no such thing as bad cake. Carrot cake, spice cake or red velvet....cream cheese frosting. Chocolate cake, vanilla cake, yellow cake...chocolate frosting. Lemon cake...lemon frosting. Strawberry or mixed berry shortcake.....whipped cream.

This bakery by my old place makes the most amazing Tiramisu cake, using spice cake and espresso whipped cream. :woohoo:

Publix makes the most amazing chocolate cakes. My favorites from there are the Chocolate Ganache Supreme, the Strawberry Limonata, and the Chantilly.

Why yes, I like cake. :hyper:
I made brownies last night, to use up the last mix. Not a big fan of them, but the kid is.
