I read the same favorite books over and over.

  • Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon (the series the show is based off... the books are a million times better IMO)
  • Anything by Sharon Kay Penman (fictionalized history but she does a lot of research so the events are probably accurate)\
  • Dragon Prince series by Melanie Rawn (fantasy but not over the top)
  • Michael Vey series by Richard Paul Evans (aimed at elementary school kids but still very enjoyable for me as an adult)

I’m a pretty big reader. In March I read 4 books.

Hazel Scott: The Pioneering Journey of a Jazz Pianist, from Café Society to Hollywood to HUAC by Karen Chilton

Let Your Mind Run: A Memoir of Thinking My Way to Victory by Deena Kastor & Michelle Hamilton

Sisters of Tomorrow: The First Women of Science Fiction Edited by Lisa Yaszek & Patrick B Sharp

Zenobia: Between Reality and Legend by Yasmine Zahran

I have a lot of favorite books, but the first 2 to come to mind are

The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K Le Guin

Good Omens by Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett

Happy Wednesday All

My heart is heavy today. Just the stress of everything in the world and worrying about loved ones. We are in "deployment" mode at our house and now can only control what we can personally influence and no news is good news. Limited news every day and methodical thinking and planning for grocery shopping and doing things as safely as possible. Please remember every day is one day closer to this being "done" no matter what the news says and how bad it gets every day is progress.

My husband's grandmother is so depressed and it's heartbreaking. She lost her husband (Matt's grandpa) of 67 years this past October and then was diagnosed with cancer on her nose and subsequently had 3 surgeries to remove good portion of her little nose. The reconstruction should have started but due to everything happening she was told to stay home and possibly for next several months. Very limited family is going to see her and she is lonely and still grieving. We are going to do zoom call with her this weekend. We are trying to cram all 60+ of us on the zoom meeting. I hope it happens! I think it will do us all good. Dinner tonight is breakfast bowls and pancakes. Look, it's freaking pandemic. I'm going to eat me some damn pancakes. It's only right at this point!

I don't have anything exciting to report. I have my first accounting test on Monday. I'm still trying to learn all this new fangled way of learning. I'm still not sure what's wrong with old school textbooks but adapting to new ways slowly but surely. Also, as life does, threw me curve ball last night when I got call asking if I wanted to go back to work. I'm not sure if I am going to but agreed to hear them out and do interview. We will see.

Oh! Regarding all the lawn talk, I had to laugh as I saw all the houses around us have mowed after my trouble maker started mowing yesterday.

Blessings, safety and good health to all.

P.S. Lynn reminded me to put my gratitude down! Thank you!

1. I'm thankful to have means to communicate with my family and friends. I couldn't imagine going through this without such communications now.
2. I'm thankful that we are healthy and still like each other's face after so long together and likely lot longer.
3. I'm thankful there is endless amount of Hallmark movies on demand right now. I'm going to keep myself buried in them.

Onto question...

Oh Tina..sorry you are having a 'heavy heart' day today. :grouphug: I think we have all had at least a couple of them over the last couple of weeks. Hang in there, as you say -every day is one day closer to this being "done" no matter what the news says and how bad it gets every day is progress.
I had to laugh when you said that everyone else started mowing after Matt did. Now their lawns all look nice and they will stop cussing him out, until they have to mow it again in a few days. At least that's how fast its growing around here. We had rain this morning, followed by sun, and you can just about hear the grass growing as it comes up
Things I am grateful for today-
The sun is shining, robins are all over my back yard, making me smile
My new birdbath arrived today, totally intact, even though Fed Ex delivered it and they have been less than careful with all pkgs lately
Neither of us are sick, noone we know is sick, and there has been only 1 reported positive case in our county. We were the last county in the state that had none at all.
Stay strong DIS family, we'll get thru this together somehow!

Question for 4/1: What's a favorite memory of yours?

I love looking at pictures and our memory books and thinking where my life has went and took me and things we have done. It's funny when you ask someone in your family a favorite memory what they tell you. Years ago during one of times between deployments, we went on weekend trip. I am an Ohhh big ball yarn! need to stop kind of girl so I naturally see this HUGE brown cow statue on side of the road I needed to stop. He has learned to indulge me and it was a creamery. We went on a tour with about 20 kindergarten kids through the creamery and got free ice cream! The weird part was probably the "class picture" LOL

Mine is an old one, but it still makes me laugh when I think of it. We used to live near a little pizzeria, and would get grinders (subs, hoagies, whatever they call them where you are) every now and then. The guy had an accent, and when you ordered, he would say 'Old Man Ezerboff'? It took us awhile to figure out what he was saying as we made him repeat it at least a few times. Turns out he was saying 'oil, mayonnaise, or both'?--but he would run the words all together, making it hard to figure out what he was asking us. Might sound like a silly memory to some, but it comes up now and then when we order subs these days, one of us will look at the other and we both start to chuckle, knowing we are both thinking of that little Italian guy from back about 40 years! Today I needed a memory that made me smile, so thanks for today's question Tina!

Staying at my maternal grandfather's house on Friday nights. Sleeping on the rocking chair/ottoman (what, I was really small) by the wood burning stove, keeping me warm. Waking up in the morning, eating Shredded Wheat (the only place I would eat it), then watching Saturday morning cartoons. Playing in their backyard (which backed up against ours during this time, just open the gate and walk over). Granny (not related to me by blood, just grandpa Bill's wife) Eva would let me play around on her little piano, and tried to teach me to paint. Grandpa Bill would let me in his garage, and let him help him 'tinker' around on his truck.

Being at their house was the most at peace I ever remember being. Sadly, after mom passed, there was a lot of drama, and problems, and my dad wouldn't let me see them anymore. :(

I didn't want to be weird and like your post when it also had sad memory. So I'm giving hugs and a like. Also question: was the shredded wheat the big big squares you had to crumble up yourself? My grandpa always had that cereal that you crumbled yourself and added sugar.

Have you been to Foamhenge? Its a 1:1 model of Stonehenge made out of foam in VA. We were able to drive right up to it and get some awesome pictures with our car and dog. I love finding wacky roadside attractions when we drive somewhere. :)

Grand children ........love looking at the scrap books and photo albums of their Disney trips....especially their first trips. They both loved them.
Looking at those pictures brings it all back

I have a niece that is 5 and twin niece and nephew that is 2 and one niece/nephew brewing right now with my husband's sister. We are trying to plan a big trip to Disney for next year. I can't imagine seeing their beautiful little faces all excited for the trip. I don't know how we are going to manage all these babies besdies tie them to each other's belt loops

That was great story! I love those kind of things that make me remember and chuckle. I also think about how many people probably think of me and chuckle from crazy things I've said and done over the years.

:grouphug:To all. these days indeed can be uneasy and disheartening at time. I heard yesterday that LA might be on stay at home until July. This has not been officially announced yet. I certainly keep in prayer that it's not necessary but that, too, was tough to think about. I smile and give great thanks to God always and for all of you.

Three positives from today:

Before this all started, I had a small plastic jar in which I put loose change at the end of each day. When the jar was to the top, often it would yield close to $100. I would roll up all the coins and bring to the bank to exchange for bills. I would rather not have all that change sitting around right now, despite it being in a container with a top....the idea didn't sound too clean. I was able to yesterday bring the change I had to a Coinstar machine at Pavilions. I got a free e gift card (there is no fee when you choose a free e gift card) to Amazon which I will use for necessities today so it was in a way like found extra money.

Thankful to be home now until Friday laundry and one brief store/bank stop.

Thankful that my Dad was able to have a doctor visit (his regular in office appointment was cancelled) via phone that went very well.

yes. the big ones! They always let me add sugar, but my grandpa wasn't allowed to, haha. They usually added fruit, blueberries or bananas.
