Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

They could also do a combination of something old and something new, as a type of transition. Like, a favorite old restaurant combined with a new activity. I think Chris would like that.

Carol, sounds like a nice trip. That heat kills me. I literally cannot handle it anymore. Figured out a few years ago I have rosacea (never realized) and it causes the arteries in the face (? and maybe elsewhere in the body, not sure) to dilate in the heat. (Even just yesterday walked the dogs and had to come home and cool down for two hours before I could go back out again. Gross, was soaked!) Sorry to hear you have Covid.

B&B thanks for sharing so much of your trip with us, it sounds and looks wonderful. Lots of love with your hubby. :lovestruc I have never been anywhere like that, really, so I enjoyed all of your pics, thanks for sharing! You have a lot of energy!

Taz, so happy that Crystal got the job!

Lynn, you should not be carrying that stuff with your back as it‘s been! Loved your thread summary to Carol, lol.

Auntie, sorry to hear about your vertigo and the dog issue. 🙁 I had vertigo and it’s hard to even do every day things with it. I hope the dog is ok. Hugs.

Hi to everyone! Had a long work stretch, barely even had time to read here. Recovered for a day and a half, now starting another short one. Thank you for your prayers about clarity, I think they helped. Had some pre-op stuff to do w DH yest, he has surgery Friday. Wound up going to Urgent Care w DD yest, she has a funky rash that could be related to Covid. More fun. She has had a rough year medically. The four of us went out to dinner last night which was nice. DH and I have bdays coming up so we’re thinking about what we want to do. We took the week off. It will be nice just to not have to go to work. We were hoping to paint the house but found out DH has to keep his foot elevated. 😬 He thought about putting it off but he‘s in pain so he really needs to get it done. We’ll paint later in the fall.

Enjoy the day! 🐥

a few photos of the ruins. Most of Xunantunich is on the gopro.
Beautiful photos of the ruins!
Over 100 schools in the district had to close early because the heat index was to high inside. I do not understand why they couldn't wait a week to reopen after Labor Day knowing this could be an issue.
This time every year I wonder the same thing when the local news announces school closures over the first week or 10 days of school because there are still schools w/o AC and they have to close early...I want to yell at the TV and scream "you go thru this every year, does it occur to anyone to do anything???" I am so glad to be out of the school situation!
It's 92 right now and the storm is expected by 5-6pm, and the temp will drop to the 70ties.
We watched, and listened, as the storm came up around us but went below & above us. Thunder boomed, but very little rain. Guess I'm watering again this evening. Oh well - it is nice out now though, no humidity!
doggie dementia
That's a sad situation, we had a dog w/ that when I was a kid. Dogzheimers my father called it, that was a hard loss.
I then tested but was negative. I was more tired than usual yesterday and a bit queasy as the day went on. Now I have a sore throat and a headache and still feel queasy. I will test again this morning.
Hope you are feeling better today, and your son as well.
Have a wonderful last day of August
Well on this last day of August I had a cord of firewood delivered, and my Rose of Sharon bush FINALLY started blooming!
QOTD--what is your pet peeve? (or peeves if you have more than one)
People being late. My in-laws are perpetually late and could care less as to how rude they are being.
I also detest when I'm sitting at a dining table - at home or at a restaurant - and others are always on their cell phones, it's plain bad manners. If you have to take a call, excuse yourself from the table and take the call...but if you are just constantly checking it for no valid reason and can't manage to summon up the common curtesy to be present during our time together, well I do really find that rude and ill-mannered.
Smokers who toss their butts down or out their car windows.

What a beautiful morning we have had here in my part of MD. The storms missed us yesterday evening, but we are enjoying the mild breeze and cooler temps/low humidity. I had to head home mid-morning to meet the guy who was delivering some firewood and it was nice just to stand outside vs. being inside. Next on the list is to get a pallet of wood pellets....this is our first winter w/ the pellet stove and I have no idea how much we will go thru, so I'll just start with one pallet and see where that gets us I suppose.

Sautéed shrimp over a Caesar salad this evening for supper. We do have a large brisket in the freezer we may take out and smoke this weekend, I suppose we ought to decide on that or it won't defrost in time.

Good Wednesday morning everyone! :sunny:

Supposed to be a beautiful day here today, low 80's and no rain. Wish I was working from home so I could get outside during the day, but I'm stuck in the office.

Nothing going on that's exciting for me. My great niece is up for Player of the Week for girl's soccer ⚽. There are 6 girls in the running so we've been voting every hour. She's in the lead by 100 votes, voting continues through Friday. She's a freshman on the varsity team and scored the only 2 goals in their first game and then another one in the 2nd game.

Snowysmom - sorry to hear that your Ds has COVID, hopefully you'll keep testing negative. Maybe on the anniversary of your DH's passing, you could plan to spend time with your sons since they will be having a rough day also. Is there something that you liked doing as a family? Maybe do something that your DH enjoyed. My sisters and I always spend the anniversary of my mom's passing together. We find something fun to do. On the 1st anniversary of that my brothers-in-law took my dad golfing so he wouldn't be by himself. The first anniversary of my dad's passing we all met at a German restaurant and had a beer for my dad 🍻. Definitely don't spend it by yourself or curled up in bed, he wouldn't want you to do that. If you have a dog shelter in your area, contact them and see if you could take some dogs for walks that day. The dogs would be very grateful and you've mentioned that you enjoy seeing the dogs in your complex.:dog:

PollyannaMom - cute picture with the deer 🦌. I would probably spend the entire time at the zoo feeding the deer and goats. I loved going to the petting area in the children's section of our zoo. They provide brushes so you can brush the goats, that's what I would always do while my kids fed them.🐐

Tazdev - congrats to Crystal on joining the work force 👏! Hope she enjoys her new job.

AuntieMe3 - hoping your dog was just having a bad day 💓. I hate hearing about things like this.

I have a baby shower for a coworker to go to on Friday and didn't realize it was coming up 👶. I'm going to head out tonight before going to Ds1's soccer game and get a gift. I usually get some type of toy for shower presents.🤰🎁

That's it for me, hope everyone has a great day.pooh:

My all time favorite shower gift was a small stuffed giraffe with a music box in it and some kind of mechanism that made the long neck sway back and forth. It was less than a foot tall and came from Woodie's well before they closed down here. Whenever I put baby DD down for her nap I started that and she would watch it and listen to the music and go right to sleep.

Today was good, but tiring! We played some review games for back-to-school, played outside a bit, and then went through their supply lists and put the stuff they bought with mom in their backpacks.

The little girl wanted to play "fancy restaurant" for lunch, so she made a pretty table setting and we wrote up menus. I also brought a tiny can of the new Dreamworld Coke for them to share/try. It was so cute - they really hammed it up.

:hug:Lynn, as you know other than briefly a year (or was it 2 years)? ago now, I haven't been inside a store since before Easter in 2019 either. I can relate to Mr. L I also do my best to ideally be early or absolutely on-time! The only time in recent memory was possibly back around Christmastime in 2019. My old dentist had an office on a busy street that required meter parking for quickest access. I spent a good hour (most of that having arrived a good half an hour early) looking for a space! I even looked inside the lot of two strip malls--one across the street and the other a few blocks away on the same side. Side streets also. I called (ahead of my appointment) to apologize and let them know what was going on. Not really a pet peeve but I prefer people to speak about someone naming them rather than a general "when one does/thinks/feels, you get the idea something." That can bug me. I don't want to know how ONE feels I would be blessed to know how YOU feel, etc.

Big:grouphug:dear Pea and continuing 🙏all-around! Grandma (or possibly a friend of hers, I don't remember) had rosacea. My fair skin burns easily and with TMJ being out in the heat or overdoing it is not a good idea anyway. I also like your idea for Snowysmom to do something new and older. How fun that both you and your DH will be celebrating birthdays soon. PM me if you would enjoy a card.

:wave2:good to see you, Easyas! Hooray that your :rose:bush is at last blooming! What color are they? :)

What a sweet memory, Judique! 🦒

:hug:PollyannaMom and so glad you had a good first day of school with the kids. Aw, what a sweet teacher and friend you are to them! ITA about not following through! That to me is almost up there with lying. Don't do lying ever! That or purposely speaking ill against God. No way!
Warm afternoon here. Dad did :cheer2:get Aquarelle wipes at a new, not so great area, neighborhood Dollar Tree. That is a celebration these days. Also blessed he found other needed items. Otherwise, all is quiet on the CA front.

Just beautiful weather. We did grocery shopping,,as I came out of Aldi's, my phone rang and it was the handyman. I asked him to give me an hour to finish shopping and put stuff away. He got here around 3 and just left. One side of the house is all done, except for the downspouts. Morons at the gutter company gave him the wrong elbows,,and not what we ordered. He's going to stop out there tomorrow and exchange them,,and then get the other side of the house done. It looks so nice!! He will be back tomorrow to finish up.
Off to find something easy for dinner..Have a nice evening all

:hug:PollyannaMom and so glad you had a good first day of school with the kids. Aw, what a sweet teacher and friend you are to them
Oh, I'm not doing school with them this year! They'll be in regular second grade. I'm just watching them a couple of days this week because their mom's school started alreasy, and they don't start until the day after Labor Day.

I made/printed off a few math and reading games just to get them warmed up and back in the swing of things. (I used to do similar stuff with my own DS when he was little.) I think the review helps their confidence.

No kids today. DD teleworked. Tessa had "Meet the Teacher" tonight and is very excited for kindergarten on Tuesday. Both kids here tomorrow so rested today.

Our favorite pizza store had a cheap deal today to we got that and am saving the chicken I defrosted for tomorrow.

Went out to the local Amish farm stand and bought vegetables and a watermelon. That was it was activity today.

Going to bed soon.

Good morning all! :sunny:

Another nice day. Planning on getting the grass cut when I get home from work today. It will be hot but I work all weekend.

Took the dogs for a walk yesterday :dog:🐶. Boomer jerked the leash and sure enough I hurt my ankle a little bit. Never swelled or anything just feels really tight so I'm guessing it's the tendon. Limping a little bit so I had to switch from heels to flats for work today 👠.

Ordered a bag of squishy toys (blocks, balls and something else) along with a book for the baby shower present. I was going to stop at Meijer and get something but then decided to see what I could get from Amazon. Luckily both things I ordered will be delivered today.

Drove out to watch Ds1's soccer game last night and there wasn't a car in the parking lot. Called Ds and he said, "sorry, it was cancelled and I forgot to call you". I was not happy. I don't go out unless I have to because I don't like to waste gas.

QOTD: My pet peeves would be people being late, people walking into a room and interrupt someone talking, and I hate stupid drivers so if your in the passing lane and not passing someone - move it.🚗

Have a great day! 🌻

Good morning all and welcome to September! It sure feels like it outside right now, but will be mid 80's by afternoon. Depending on whether the handyman comes this morning or this afternoon, mowing will be on the agenda. I think I am only one of 2 who haven't cut the grass yet this week, makes me feel like a slacker, lol.
I was so tired last nite. After hurrying through the markets to get groceries and get home, putting things away after scanning them, then helping with the ladders, tools, etc. , my feet were aching (unusual, but then again I was on my feet for about 7 hours without sitting), and my back was stiff, but not sore.
Dinner was whatever we could grab without my having to cook. Mr L had mac and cheese and ham chunks, I made a chicken salad sandwich. I was too tired to eat more than that.
Have a nice morning all,,enjoy the day!

Today's pic is for all you pumpkin spice lovers (I am not one of them), but I thought it was cute (and appropriate as Walmart had all kinds of pumpkin spice stuff out yesterday!

Wishing everyone a very Happy September!

Dad will be leaving for the dentist in half an hour or so. 🦷🙏please. Thank you always so much! Doesn't feel like Fall here. It's already nearing 80. A new month is always a new blessing of beginning 🌼

What a fun 🍨idea, PollyannaMom! Enjoy!

So glad the morning weather was cooler for you, Snowysmom. 🚶‍♀️in the heat is definitely not fun!

:grouphug:Footballmouse and prayers your ankle feels better today!

:hug:Lynn, you, my friend, are the complete opposite of a slacker! Please don't ever think that about yourself. I am not a pumpkin food or drink anything fan, definitely understand. Dad enjoys some pumpkin flavored foods. As always please take care!

🐣❤️to all. I'll check back later.

@lynxstch I stole that meme, lol. I am a pumpkin spice fanatic. You make me tired with the amount of work you do...you are definitely not a slacker.

@PollyannaMom I did similar worksheet/book stuff with my kids in the weeks before school, as well as set them on a schedule (set bedtime/get up time, lunchtime, etc) to get them back in the school habit.

@Pea-n-Me hope things go smoothly for your DH, and that your DD gets better.

@easyas123 I can only dream of lower temps here, lol. We are still in the high 80s-90s most of the day.

@Snowysmom I agree with our other quackers; I would do something that DH and I would do, and then do something new, to make a positive new memory.

Like many of you, my QOTD pet peeve is people being late, without letting me know. I had to break DH of that...he'd text he was leaving work, so I could start dinner, and then not leave for 30 or 45 minutes. All it took was 2 cold dinners (with food that didn't reheat well, like fish) to get him to start letting me know when he was delayed. LOL I am also bothered by those who say they will do something, and then fail to do it...or those who complain that things aren't happening, but who won't step up to help out. I dealt with a lot of that with the kids activities.

We had burgers, mac n chz, and salad for dinner last night. Tonight is battered fried fish, fries, and salad. I finished mowing the yards yesterday, but need to weedwack the backyard still; I think DS can get to that tomorrow...it is stormy today. House is clean, so today is a lazy day, haha.

Yall have a good day!

I guess handyman is coming this afternoon, so while I had the time, I mowed the whole lawn, then weedwacked it. Then I cleaned off both mower decks, put them back in their places, and put the covers back on. Its sunny and 81, but there is a nice breeze. Now I don't feel like such a slacker, lol

@Bianca and Bernard glad you liked the meme..it's getting harder and harder to find DIS ones I haven't already used..glad I came across that one this morning!

Good morning @flyingdumbo127 and Good afternoon to the rest of you. :flower3:
Another HOT HOT day in So Cal. It's already 91 at 9:30..Supposed to get up to 107 today.:scared: Yikes...that's even hotter than I thought it would be.

Yesterday, I felt a little better with regards to the vertigo...still there a little(like when I'm laying down or when I first get up) but I was able to do some stuff around the house without getting queasy and I even went to the store in the evening time.

As for the doggie...he's ok for now but it makes me sad to see him decline so quickly it seems. Evenings/overnights are the worst. 🥱 He's super happy DH came home this morning after being gone a couple days so maybe it will help make him feel more settled today/tonight.

Going to a nail appt here in a little bit and then I'll be home hibernating in the AC for the rest of the day.

Hope you all have a great day. :grouphug:

Came back with an extra humble and grateful heart to share all went just fine for dad at the dentist. He wasn't even charged for today's follow-up. He's currently doing some quick shopping at Ralph's mostly for 🍞🥯. Tomorrow, he'll get more items including perishables. He will be home soon after a quick possible stop at the post office which he passes on his way home. I just thoroughly enjoyed listening again to part of worship from last Sunday. Shout to the Lord is a song new to me that I just love. This version by Hillsong is a little louder than the one sung at the church which I prefer (quieter) but it's beautiful, nonetheless. Prayers it brings each of you joy to listen to and give thanks.

B&B, you and Lynn would make a dynamo all-around home care service! Get some rest. How are you feeling btw? :hug:ITA. Please follow-up with something promised whether it be a simple phone call or email, text reply to something bigger.

Lynn, read what I said to B&B above. Seriously just reading about all you both do is exhausting! Admire the stamina and drive of both of you wise and strong ladies! Now, can you rest? :)

:grouphug:and continuing prayers AuntieMe3 for you and your dog as well. Grateful to hear you're doing a bit better. Heartbreaking 💔 when a dog :dog:begins to decline :( At the moment (I just looked) my phone says it is 91 here. I would imagine it being hotter and dryer where you are. Please stay hydrated and take it easy!
