So we have towing coverage via our TT insurance (Foremost) in case of TT breakdown and accident. but we just changed car insurance and have very little coverage now.

WHat do you use, if anything? And how have you found it?

Can you tell our 2000 mile round trip is looming large?

Ta!

I'm unclear on your question. Are you looking for just automobile coverage then I would go with AAA. If you still need to cover your TT, and other household vehicles, I'd join Good Sam and get their coverage which covers all your household vehicles including RVs and motorcycles. BTW, AAA does have RV service but I understand it is state by state coverage and not all can handle RVs.

Brad's statement above is correct. I do have Good Sam Emergency Road Service and AAA. I keep AAA for the discounts like at Ft. Wilderness and elsewhere (I saved $200 at Lens Crafters recently). I've used AAA in the past for tows for my cars (you get a couple of miles free before you have to pay unless you pay more for the Plus coverage then pay more for RV coverage if needed) and have not had any issues but I do not have confidence in AAA being able to handle my TT if needed. From the stories I've read on other forums, experiences with Good Sam ERS have been very positive. The cose for GS ERS is, IIRC, $79 for new members the, IIRC, $109 for renewals. Since I don't have AAA Plus +RV I can't comment on the cost but I think GS ERS is the better deal in coverage and most likely cost.

I'm not sure what you mean by "we just changed car insurance and have very little coverage now." I would hope you have full coverage on your vehicles as well as your TT. It sure beats the alternative of being underinsured.

I did the same thing as the previous poster. I have standard AAA coverage for 4 family members and it runs about $100 per year and doesn't cover the T@B. To upgrade to AAA Plus RV, it was going to be $175 per year and they wouldn't upgrade until my renewal which is this coming April, (I called about it in July) so I purchased Good Sam RV at $79 for the first year. It covers all 4 vehicles AND the T@B. When my AAA renewal comes up, I'm going to downgrade it to one person for $48 per year. I'll use the AAA for Disney discounts and will more than save the $48 on that.

OK, well I guess clarification is:
    • Foremost will cover towing / damage etc to the Travel Trailer but not to the tow vechicle.
    • We just changed our tow vehicle insurance (still lots of financial coverage) but breakdown assistance no longer included.
From a staright comparison, Good Sam ERS is a way better deal than AAA. ($80 vs. $104)

Can you use Good Sam if you *don't* have your travel trailer with you?

Thanks for your help - this is all new to us. Now if you want to know about the UK system, I'm your gal :)

We have AAA Plus/RV. Ours is up for renewal this month, but we upgraded back in August (when we bought the RV) with no problems.

Yep, no problem. It covers ALL of our vehicles, and my husband's car or boys' cars will never tow the camper.

My son just used it twice in the last week. Flat tire and then the spare blew, and then dead battery jump off.

I think it's different states with different rules. When I called AAA Alabama, they told me I only had 30 days from my renewal date to make any changes to my coverage for the year. :confused3

Maybe it's like Disney's Carousel of Policy, if I had called back and gotten someone else, I would have gotten a different answer.

Yes, you can. You don't even need an RV to signup for ERS but if you do have one it is covered. I did just notice that the rate for non-GS members is $10 higher. Still a better deal than AAA. I wonder if the AAA rates vary by region. My AAA renewal rate for AAA MidAtlantic is $61 per year. At least I have something to lood forward to. My Dad has had AAA for 50 years. When he hit the 50 year anniversary AAA have him free lifetime AAA Plus. Maybe GS ERS will do the same.

Disney's Carousel of Policy.:rotfl: So true!

Well you won't get the central number to call, but I have an added roadside
assistance rider on my State Farm policy that costs 12 bucks a year:thumbsup2

You have to pay at the time, but most outfits will take plastic, get a receipt
and turn it in to your agent. State Farm sends a check to you usually within
three weeks.

Upside; You can use anyone to provide service.

Downside; No central number to call....you have to pay at the time.

BxTx, did you get your coverage? Just wondering. How are the trip plans going, we leave in 2 weeks, we are all getting excited. I bet you are too. 3 weeks for you right? I hope the parks aren't packed and the weather is nice.

Wonder which is better??

We upgraded to AAA RV Plus when we got our motorhome. I have heard people say that it doesn't always work in all areas as far as towing and that it wasn't good to have. That is was better to go with something like Good Sam.

We also have some sort of towing with our insurance through Progressive.

What do you guys think?

We have Good Sam's Roadside and unfortunately, have had to use it twice. The first was on Thanksgiving Day heading to Disney. We had to be towed and the guy who came out was just great to us. We even had the dogs with us. The second time was on our way home from Montana when our tire blew.

On both occasions, we were pulled off the side of the road with flashers going, and not one state trooper pulled over to see if we needed help or anything. I was glad we had Good Sam's.
