QSDP with older kids?

We're going to WDW May 21-28. Our twins will be almost 9--their birthday is the week after we get home--and our son will be 7 1/2. I've already added the QSDP to our package, but now I'm wondering if I should upgrade to the regular DDP. Making all those ADR's sounds like a pain AND I really don't want to pay the added expense for regular DDP, but I'm afraid eating just QS meals for the whole trip won't be enough food for my kids now that they're getting older. The last time we went to WDW the kids were 5,5,3...we did the dining plan then and had more than enough food, but obviously the kids ate much less then;-). Dh and I are planning on sharing some of our CS meals with the kids, and of course we'll have all those snack credits, but still. Those kids meals were teeny tiny from what I remember.

So, for those with kids 7,8,9 years old...do you find the QSDP was enough food for your kids?

We are doing QSDP for the first time next month, after several trips on the DDP, the kids have begged us not to do it again. They didn't like "wasting" so much park time. (I don't see it as wasting, but they do so we got the QSDP and only are ddoing a few favorite sit downs instead of 10.) Anyway, only one of ours isa kid as far as the plan goes, but one thing yo ucould do is pay to upgrade the kids to adults. Try running the numbers and put them in as 10 year olds and see if that works for you.

We agree the kids meals are often lacking, but DD8 is happy to have a hot dog or something and eat some of the rest of ours meals as they are so large, so maybe just upgrade 1 or 2 of the kids. Just a thought, good luck. My kids are very excited about double snacks and getting their own drink mugs on the QSDP. We don't have soda much at home so they are really excited about those!

Personally would upgrade to the Magic you Way :cool1:with the one TS and one CS meal and if you received the free dining is not that much to do so. We like character breakfast and need one TS for those. Like Cape May with Goofy at Beach Club dinner good there also but no characters. Tusker House with Donald in AK we have eliminated Chef Mickeys for sometime as food just went down hill. Wolf Gang Pucks Express is CS but so many choices there as well as Earl of sandwich. Hollywood & Vine in HS has character breakfast with Handy Mandy but your kids may be to old for that now. Our snack credits we use to take home things:wizard: as were not much on snacking. Kids meals are small:upsidedow

The kids meals are small and you won't have a choice to get your kids bigger meals w/o adding items with snack credits or paying cash for something.

The cost for children is the same for the QS or Plus(TS) dining plan, you just pay $11 a night more for the adults. If you upgrade and add some buffet meals your children will have a chance to eat anything on the buffet and get plenty to eat. My nephew was 7 last trip and is now 9, his appetite has defiinitely increased. So even though we're likely to do Pop with free QS next year I will upgrade to the Plus plan and book several buffets.

Honestly...on our last QSDP trip our daughter was 9 and she was so sick of the little kids meals. She had be eating them since she was 6 and was ready for bigger portions.

You could always just make her 10 on the QSDP rather then upgrade to regular dining. Even if you got the regular DDP she would still have to order the kids meals.

My daughter was 9 when we went and she got a little tired of the kid's meal selections. I know a few times she would have preferred an adult's QS meal. My suggestion would be to let them get an adult's meal now and then for something more substantial, and more variety. You might have to pay out of pocket for a few of those meals, but that's what I would do.

We were on the regular dining plan so my kids only had CS once a day. If we would have been on the QS plan, I can say my dd5 probably would have went crazy with the lack of selection. As it was, I split meals with her several days so she could have something different - we saved enough credits for lunch on our last day. My ds8 lived on burgers, pizza and hot dogs for both lunch and dinner - he had adult CS meals for 5 of the 8 days.
