QSDP and 9 year old question

I'm just figuring out this dining plan for the first time as we realized an earlier than planned arrival would allow for us to get free dining. When I look at the kids' meals on the QSDP, versus what the adult meals are, there is no way my 9 year old son is going to be happy! I just know I will end up eating the kids' meal and he will get my adult meal, which will not make me very happy!

Can we say we want him to be 10 , just pay the very small difference in ticket price, and he then gets the adult QSDP? Is this allowed? Thanks!

Yes. This is frequently done / reccomended for parents that know their 9 year old is a big eater and/or has a more sophisticated palate. If you are OK paying for an adult admission ticket & if not on free dining, paying the difference between the children's plan & the adult plan-- sure your can say your 9 year old is 10 & get adult credits for them.

You sure can! The key thing is you have to upgrade both the park pass and the dining plan. But if it is worth the extra cost for you, then you are free to do it!:)

If you think he'll be okay with some of the kid's meal selections, but not all of them, you could always pay out of pocket for an adult's meal once in a while. Or use the kid's meals for breakfast.

Thanks for the info- that is great news! It only costs $25 to upgrade his ticket for the time we are there, so well worth it for him to have more choices and not feel left out!

I have the same situation - QSDP and DS9.

I called twice to Disney Reservations and asked about upgrading him to DS10, and got two different answers. both polite.

The first said "no worries", DS9 can order off the adult menu. (This didn't sound correct to me).

I called a couple of days later and was told "no you can't upgrade".

I'm a little leary of making a change to my reservation fearing it will goof something up. I'll probably pay OOP if DS9 wants something else.

What should I say if I try a third time?:surfweb:

Say you want your child registered as 10. Then buy adult ticket and dining plan for him.

Keep calling back until you get a CM who will do it.

We went one trip with the deluxe dining plan when my older son was 10 and had the adult plan and my middle son was 8 and had the child plan. He was so miserable the entire trip and so jealous of his brother's food it really put a damper on the trip.

When we went the following year I explained to the CM when I booked the trip that I wanted to age him 1 year (from 9 to 10) and pay the difference in his ticket and the meal plan. They did so with no problems. We had a wonderful trip!

We are going May 2011 with the deluxe plan and both boys are now 14 and 12 so no problems there. My DD will be 9, but I am sticking with the kids plan for her. Why? She just does not eat that much and doesn't get too excited about food. She's more of a dessert lover and last May I gave her most of my desserts because I am not really a dessert person and she was happy. I also split some ceasar salad apps with her (her favorite salad) and she was happy with that also. I asked her if she wanted me to get the adult plan for her this trip and she thought about and said "No thanks."

I would absolutely age a 9 year old on the QS plan. There is such a huge difference between the adult and child CS meals. I can't imagine a 9 year old being happy with the child items.

I just upgraded my 7 year old yesterday. He eats well, but I mainly did it to give him more choices.
