I can just have 1 night of QS DP at the beginning of my long stay correct? I want to get the mugs and this seems like a great way to get them. TIA :goodvibes

But officially, they are only good for the length of your dining plan, not your entire trip.

Yes, you just have to ask MS to segment that night out for you. We are doing that this summer.

Yes, OP we do this all of the time. We buy the QS or Dex DDP for the first night and then use the mugs during the "length of our stay". Well within the rules.

Not true, they are good for the length of your stay. That is what it says on the board and mug. "Refills available at no additional charge at Resort Beverage Islands located in the resort that this mug was purchased through the end of your resort stay." The fact that you got it either through your dining plan or purchased the mugs by themself does not make a difference. This is from the most recent mugs from May this year.

:thumbsup2 I just got back on Monday from a 4 day stay and I did the first night QSDP. I didn't really use the mug that much but I wanted to try out the plan in case the family wants to do it in October.

It is not hard to imagine that, from Disney's perspective, a "stay" is the one for which you have a dining plan reserved. The second reservation (even if linked) is likely to be considered (again, by Disney's sharp-pencil boys) a new "stay".

Of course, no one at Disney seems to care if you use years-old mugs, so it is not like someone will stop you. But, when loopholes become widely-known, Disney has been known to close them. So, if you insist on treating "stay" in a way that benefits you, my best advice is: enjoy it while you can.

But the length of your stay that you bought the mug was only one night. Not the entire length of your trip. You segmented your trip to do that. That single segment is your length of stay for the mug.

Interesting discussion. I never used the dining plan for just one day and didn't think about this.

Sorry, I guess we will have to disagree. To me length of stay is the day we check in to the day we checkout. ;)

With a segmented reservation you do have to check out and check back in. So it is the day you check out.

We segmented our April reservation into 3 sections, and did not have to check back in and out or get new room keys...
