first I apologize if this has already been addressed.

I was reading today on easyWDW that starting next year (2017) on the DDP someone using a QS credit can opt to skip the dessert and apply that to an extra snack credit for later use. I love this idea and hopefully I am reading this correctly.

My question is, what are the current options in 2016, my family never eats the QS dessert. We used to just get a bottle of water instead of dessert, however, on our last trip in 2013, we were told at all QS locations that we couldn't do this.

Thanks for any insight you can provide!

It isn't that you are dessert. It is that QS credits no longer include a dessert in 2017. There will be 1 extra snack in the QSDP and DDP.

This year, you can swap the dessert for anything at the QS location marked with a DDP snack logo. It must be within the same transaction and cannot be banked for later.

Thank you, that makes sense.

I actually like this move, if you want the dessert at the QS location, you can get it...otherwise you have the flexibility to use the extra snack credit when and where you want. Too bad it won't be in effect for our summer trip.

But the swap/exchange IS in effect for your trip. You can switch that dessert for anything with a snack logo next to it. That includes the bottled water, but could also be a soup, garlic knots, fries, onion rings, frozen drinks. Check out the menus of the QS where you plan to eat, and see what you can get instead of your dessert. This is written into the brochure, so ALL QS locations are honoring it.

As to the 2017 change, it is a horrible move for the QSDP. That took away both desserts, and only gave you one extra snack AND the price went up. It will be VERY difficult (next to impossible) to break even with that plan next year. However, it is a GREAT deal for the regular DDP with 1 TS, 1 QS, and now 2 snacks. You still get your dessert with your TS, so the extra snack you can use anywhere is a much better value than the QS dessert they took away.

I have a related question...can you also swap out your drink at a QS restaurant? For example, lets say I order 1 QS meal, can I swap the drink for soup and the dessert for extra fries?

You SHOULD be able to do this. There have been a smattering of reports of people being told it is "either or, not both," but I think these are in the minority. The writing in the brochure could be interpreted either way. Since this will go away with the dessert portion for the 2017 dining plans, take advantage of it now.

Currently you can. We were there recently and swapped out a drink for lobster bisque at Les Halles (France). Also at BOG QS lunch, French onion soup instead of dessert. Pretty much anything with the snack logo you can swap out whether it be a drink, dessert, or snack/side.

But did you do a swap with BOTH drink and dessert at the same meal? That's the PP's question. I know you can do either, but not many have come back to say they did BOTH at the same meal. In theory you should be able to, but just don't know if it bears out in practice.

Oh gotcha...I misread it. As you said, in theory you should be able to and I agree. In my example at Les Halles we did not swap out both, based on our preference, however the CM there said you could use anything with a snack logo for the other two items (drink/dessert) so my guess....at least there, we could have swapped both for two "sides" (two soups instead of one).

We were able to do this at Boardwalk Bakery in May- we got one sandwich to split, used our mugs for drinks, and swapped the drink for a fruit bowl and the dessert for a croissant for DS' breakfast the next day :).

This is great news! My mom is traveling with us, but not in our room/on Free Dining with us, so I figure I'll use my husband and my quick service dessert to get her a drink and a snack wherever we go. Then she and I can most likely share a meal bc a meal, a snack, and two drinks is plenty for 2 people in many locations. Woot! Thanks :-)

I apologize if I seem a bit dense...but I'm still a bit confused. For 2016, can i go to say Fame Tree, order the pulled pork sandwich, with a soda, and request to swap my dessert out for a snack credit I can use at a later time? For me, it almost sounds too good to be true...we don't eat dessert (or snacks very much), so we'll have almost enough snack credits to pay for a 3rd meal/day for us (muffin, etc at the food court).

No. You can use your dessert for any item at Flame Tree marked with a Snack logo. You cannot save the credit for later.
