I have a few questions about renting points from a DVC member. First, I would be a first-time renter, & therefore have no references. Is that going to make it hard for me to find someone who will let me rent from them? Second, if I rent from a DVC member, will the member have to also make all my ADRs, or would I be able to do that, myself, once I have the confirmation sheet? (I have two little girls who want princess meals, etc., and would hate the thought of inflicting that on someone else.)

Thanks,

The fact that you have never rented probably won't hurt you in any way. While there is some risk to the DVC member, the member still holds most of the cards. You will probably be asked to make some payment before (or as) the reservation is secured with the balance due 60-45 days before check-in. If you fail to meet your commitments, the member will simply cancel your reservation and get the points back.

There is some risk to the member in that if he/she is near the end of the Use Year it could be difficult to re-rent the points. But to answer your question, I've never heard of DVC members refusing to deal with someone unable to provide references. My guess is that there are very few people who have rented points more than 2 or 3 times without becoming members themselves.

You will be able to make your own ADRs after the reservation is secured. The main things you would have to go thru the DVC member for would be:

* Disney's Magical Express reservations
* To add or remove the Dising Dining Plan from a reservation
* To add or remove any room requests from a reservation

You can make your own ADRs, you will do so by calling the regular WDW dining number and not Member Services.

If you want the Dining Plan, the member you rent from will need to inform Member Services of that fact. You will pay for it when you check-in to your resort.

I'm not sure that lack of references will have a lot of impact, just be sure to have something in writing (or email) between the two of you detailing when payments are due, and payment method.

Thank you both very much!

That's interesting; thanks for that observation, too . . .

I just wanted to say that I am a first time renter and my "person" has gone above and beyond for me. It's been a great experience so far. This will be our first trip and so far it's been a smooth ride :) I was never asked for any references and all information and questions I had were answered right away!! I hope you have as great of an experience as I have had :thumbsup2

I wish they'd make some sort of section where we could do feedback for the renters/owners and the wonderful transactions.
