I have read that there is a lagoon in Chankanaab Park. Does it offer any protection from the tides and sea lice?
Is there shopping around the beach/park and if so are the prices better than in town?
Any other comments, do's or don'ts ?

The lagoon is a small and has a soft sandy beach. Most of Chankanaab itself is rocky and reefy. Consider the lagoon basically a shallow kiddie pool. It is about the same size as a public pool. At one end water comes in and out, but it is very kid friendly. There is not really alot of shopping there. It is more of an entertainment park with animal shows, food and fake Mayan ruins. We had an excellent time there and want to go back again!

No humans are allowed in the lagoon at Chankanaab. It is a protected nature area, with many fish in its clear waters. There's a walkway around the lagoon, with viewing areas at several spots.

I would like to know if you can see the dolphins even if you do not book the swim. Or is it restricted area?

Thanks.

You can see them, but from a distance. We didn't do the dolphin swim, but hubby was able to take a few photos using his telephoto lens. I did the sea lion swim instead.
