Can you please recommend 3 or 4 LE DCL pins you find particularly nice that we can purchase on 10/5/03 cruise....DS is starting to build a collection...

Thank you!!!

In July, my kids put together the "build a pin" pins. The ship with their choice of any two characters on deck. My daughter built one with Boo (Monsters, Inc) and Sleeping Beauty. Oh well, no accounting for taste! I think these were $12 each. Save some money for those on Castaway Cay. Very cute. We had so much fun trading every night on the ship! Have fun!

The monthy Artist Choice pin may even be available on that cruise.

It is hard to predict the LE pins that will be available on your cruise, but know that the DCL pins themselves are all only available on the cruise. WDW pins are also sold on the cruise, but the DCL pins are unique to the ships. Don't forget to buy pins at Castaway Cay as most Castaway Cay pins are only available on the island itself and not even available on the ships. The Artist Choice pins are the most unique LE that are typically available on the ships and they don't sell out as fast on the Magic as on the Wonder I have been told (there were still plenty left on our Magic cruise even though they had been released on the previous cruise and the Magic's allotment is only 375 pins in total).

How often and for what themes do they release Artists Choice pins?

Are released once a month in a limited quanity.

My suggestion is to let them get what they love, limited or not. Cruise pins can only be purchased on the cruise and the same holds true for Castaway Cay.

But beware pins can be addicting.:D

I agree, we (myself and DD's ages 11 and 7 just started collecting and I can't wait for our cruise to get some originals only available on the ship. I don't really trade as I/we just started collecting. I buy what I like. Although my kids like trading.

Andrew, the Artist Choice pins don't seem to have a set release date. They could be released any time of the month. The first night there's pin trading, ask the person working the pin cart if there are any special pins coming out during your cruise. There might be some other LE pin worth having. Actually, any DCL pin is worth having, and good for trading, but especially the LE ones.
Also, it's pretty easy to trade for the lanyard series pins with CM's on the ship. Look them up on PinPics so you know what they look like, then watch the CM's lanyards for them. Diana

If I can interject with a quick question about the pin trading. We have about 5 or 6 of the pins we received 3 or 4 years ago from the Epcot Christmas carolling thing where you get to hear a celebrity sing and recite Christmas stories along with a choir.
My 10 year old wants to trade these when she goes on the ship. I have NO idea what is involved, she just have them in her hand and show up with them or do you put them on a something so folks can see them? She has a few others she bought but wants to keep them.
Sorry if this is basic but this is more for her and don't know if people would be even interested in trading for them. They have Mickey with some Christmas stuff on them. I can't even find them right now to say exactly what they say as they're buried in her bedroom somewhere and I'm definitely NOT brave enough to venture into a 10 year old's room without backup :)
Cheers,
Grumbo

We found everyone to be very helpful when it came to pin trading on the ship. We aren't that knowledgeable about it, and basically buy and trade for the ones we really like. The castmate in charge of the pin cart in the lobby was the one who told me about the DCL Artist Choice pins. Had it not been for her, I wouldn't have bothered buying any since we aren't Sebastian fans. She was awesome, and took the time to explain how some are rare, the amounts released on each pin, etc. She also had a huge binder filled with pins you could trade for. Just be sure and ask lots of questions!
Have fun!

Lanyard series pins are pins you can't purchase. They are available only by trading with a CM that has one on their lanyard. They are quite hard to find at WDW, but on the ship they seemed to be everywhere. Diana

Diana...I know this may sound stupid, BUT, how do you know which pins on their lanyards are lanyard pins.

Thanks
Joanna

No question is stupid, the lanyard pins will usually say "lanyard pin series" on the back of the pin.
go to www.pinpics.com and go to the search feature. Search on lanyard pin, and you will get a list of the available pins, do a picture view of your search and you will have pictures of the pins all on one or two pages. Print the page and take it with you on the ship or WDW. When you get a pin, put a check next to the pin you have traded. This helps new pintraders keep track of what they have or don't have.

Thanks Michelle, I will do just that. Otherwise if I didn't have the picture I still wouldn't know what I was looking at.

Thanks
Joanna

DH was a contestant on Who Wants to be a Mousketeer and got a free contestant pin . . . very collectable and you can't buy it!!
