My son mentioned earlier that he wanted a North Face jacket. He said jacket, not coat.

Do you know if fleece jackets are still "cool" for teens? I saw a good buy on a North Face fleece jacket, but I don't want to get it if he won't wear it (especially since it's $80), but since it's a pretty expensive item, I don't want to ask him what kind he wants because I want it to be a surprise.

I don't think he's too picky. I really think North Face is in right now at his school, and he just wanted something made by them. I just don't want to get him a dorky jacket. Anyone know?

I know that the Denali is quite popular, and for girls, the fuzzy jackets, not sure of the name. When I took dd to the store, I showed her a couple NF jackets and she poo-poo'd them-not the "right" ones. I'd make sure before buying (as you are doing now). I think the ones the kids are wearing are $100.00 and up. I got dd's for $99.00 on Black Friday.

Fuzzy like fleece?

I think this one was normally higher priced. I've seen some coats, but the only other ones I've seen are windbreaker type. The coats were all over $200 and he doesn't need a coat (just got an Abercrombie one last year).

It seems like everyone at my daughter's school wears Northface. I'm not sure which jacket you are looking at but the most popular style is called "Denali". Patagonia Snap-T jackets and pullovers are also very popular but I think they may cost a little more.

I don't know how cold that it gets where you live but here in Tennessee these jackets are warm enough to be the main winter coat so that kind of justifies the price.

Oh I see - Denali is a style of North Face.

Ok, so it's fleece with some other material on it?

Just saw it. It's $165. I just don't think I could talk my husband into that since we just got him a $250 dollar coat last year.

I'm in Kentucky, so it does get pretty cold, but not like in Minnesota, or something. :)

The Denali has a fairly close cut type of material (don't know if it is a typical fleece) with a nylon trim in the shoulder area. I have seen a fluffier Northface jacket for sale but that style is not the most popular.

In my neck of the woods kids have both the fleece jacket and he puffy one. The fleece for "fall" and the puffy for winter.

Our school playground cracks me up on the first day back after Christmas Break. Its like our entire neighborhood bought out all of the North Face stock as well as the Ugg stock in the entire Chicagoland area. :rotfl2:

The Denali Thermal Jacket....nylon across the chest and fuzzy high loft fleece on the body and arms. The older version is the Denali Jacket also nylon across the chest but low pile fleece but this style has been taken over by the Denali Hoodie. Same jacket but attached hood. Polartec (brand) of fleece comes in weights...100, 200 and 300. Denali is 300 wt. None of these are windproof or waterproof..not considered a hard shell jacket.
Ironically...I am siting here writing my North Face order for next seasons ski season. (multi-tasking!!!)

Our son got a jacket from the Summit series and has been very happy with it. He did not want "puffy" and got something that was lightweight but still rated down to -20.

My 20 year old wanted a new one this year. See my previous threads about the knock off North Face jackets. Fortunately it all worked out and he got his denali North Face (or will for Christmas) and it was about $106 on the website. I am not recommending them but I have been pleased. I was very nervous at first because I found out after I ordered it that the company is in China. Looking at the jacket and the tags I think it may be a genuine North Face but may be last years model or either the tags are different here in the US. If it is a knockoff they went to a lot of trouble. Everything about it looks authentic and one of my employees was wearing the female version and it looked just like hers.

I can relate, we have not bought NF for our kids because we bought their varsity coats which cost @ $250 :scared1:
They have never asked for one but I'm sure they secretly covet them... it is natural for kids to want to fit in.

It has been the same here in HS and now DD reports everyone at her Big Ten school wears Ugg boots and the same North Face long down coat to walk to class. I had offered to pay what I thought was reasonable toward her new coat and if she wanted that particular brand she could foot the difference. She was very happy with her coat from Macy's that we found, came in at just $100 after sale and coupons but not a North Face. And her boots are not Ugg, she got cute Bogs which seem more practical.

I need to correct my earlier post about pricing of North Face vs Patagonia. I didn't remember how much I paid for the Denali (You would think that after buying three that I would remember and, by the way, don't wear one of these jackets to a bonfire. My daughter did this last year and came home with little holes all over the arms where the sparks melted the fabric. Nothing like spending $165 on another jacket.) Back to the original question. Since you mention price, you might want to look at Patagonia. They cost less and my college age daughters tell me that the Patagonia Snap-T's are much more in demand among older teens and young 20s. You couldn't even find these last year around Christmas time but I think that they are better stocked this year. I think they will run you around $100.

North Face is all over dd's school. She wanted the Oso (super fuzzy fleece), but it was only rated for "mild" temperatures. I bought her the 3 in 1 Mountain View for $129. She can still wear girls sizes instead of ladies, so that saved us some $.

Here it is the Denali and the Kuhmbo (sp?). It is essentially the same as the Denali without the "patch" in the chest area and is only about $80. DS and DD have both kinds and wear the cheaper one the most. :confused3

Just ordered DS15's this past weekend-with all of his patches, etc. it was $320:eek::eek::eek: We spent $90 adding more patches to DD15's jacket over the summer :scared1::scared1::scared1:

North Face is still very popular here. Most of the kids either have the puffy down ones (we are in MN), the polar fleece ones or the ones that are like a wetsuit almost (I don't know the style names of any of them). DS15 has the puffy down one, DD has the wetsuit like one. I did see in the stores that they have some that are like those super soft fuzzy slipper socks you can buy.

I have a North Face Jacket.
All of my friends have a North Face Jacket.
97% of my high school has a North Face Jacket.

Yes. They're still "in".

We all wear them including my 13 year old. He is not fashion conscience however; I know they are popular at the middle school. I see tons of kids wearing them as I sit in the drop off line. I bought his because I love mine. I LOVE the north face gloves...thin and super warm. Well worth the 30 bucks!

I'm just sick over this and ready to disown my DD. She wants a North Face Denali jacket and I found one at Platos Closet and paid $29.00 for it! THE Deal of the Century! But, it was a large and she didn't want it and I had to return it. (Platos Closet is a teen used clothing store.) Right before I returned it, I asked her again and told her that if I don't find one at a decent price, she may not get one. Nope, she didn't want it ONLY because it was a large. ARGH. I know, I know. I could have kept it and sold it on Criags list, but I didn't want to have to deal with that either.

Just for spite, I might not get her one!
