Anyone here tried it? I ordered it a couple of days ago and cannot wait to get started. I work out 5 times a week with weights, cardio, running etc. I am ready to take my body to the next level :lmao: Let me know if you have tried it.

I have done it, and I know there are a few others around here who have as well. It's a great program, I'm actually doing my third round of it right now (about 3 weeks to go), but this time around I am doing P90X Classic, substituting Insanity workouts for the P90X cardio workouts which are, imo, not that good. The resistance workouts are GREAT, and you will see results, bt it is tough and you need to really stick with it and just accept that you can do what you can do, and improvement will come. Good luck,. let us know how it goes

My next round will be Volume one of P90X: One on One, which looks even tougher...

I have been looking into this, and see several different versions. Which would you recommend for a beginner at p90x?

I began this this week. I'm doing P90X "Lean." I'm really out of shape (really!) so I have to modify a lot of the moves but my goal is to just KEEP MOVING the whole time rather than stopping when I can't do something, and so far I'm doing fine but am extremely sore! I'm using the eating plan as a general guideline and I feel better already after pitching out all the junk food I had been eating.

I think this is a program that can suit people of a lot of different fitness levels.

I started P90X last spring and made it through the first 30 days or so. I really liked it and it has some great workouts, but it is a really big time commitment. I already have to get up by 5:45 to make it to work on time and there is usually 3 days a week that I don't get home until 10 pm, so I just couldn't get all of the workouts in with consistency. That said, I still think it is great! You start to see results fairly quickly and you will definitely feel stronger. I still do some of the workouts for strength training and hope to add more in and maybe try doing the program again. Good luck!

It IS a big time commitment.
I was thinking of substituting some shorter workout tapes (I have some good heavy cardio ones that are about 30 minutes long) 2 days a week.
I know the results won't be quite as great but it would be better than skipping workouts altogether on the days when I just don't have a full 60-80 minutes to spare.

I did a search here for threads about P90X and I'm glad I found this. I just got it myself and started on Sunday 1/2.

I've been somewhat active by playing basketball twice a week and doing some lifting from time to time. I just really needed to get involved with a more scheduled type program to keep me accountable and that's how I decided to get P90X. I kind of wondered how I could ever expect the results promised from that program... I mean no real weight training??? Push ups and Pull ups??? Well, I did the chest and back workout on day 1 and I still feel it.

I'm just a few days in. So far it has been chest and back, plyometrics, shoulders and arms, yoga and ab ripper X. I've struggled mightily in parts of each workout, but I look forward to the next time to see how much I've improved. It is very hard, but I can tell already that if I can stick with it, I will be rewarded in the end.

Good luck and keep us updated.

vettegirl..if you are working out 5 times a day, you are the perfect candidate to see incredible results. Workouts are hard but doable, do not push to hard when starting out, its 90 days, not 1 week.

the BIGGEST key to incredible results is following the nutrition plan, i mean following in exactly. If you want the 6/8 pack follow the nutrition plan.

This is not necessarily a weight loss program, it is a strength and cardio program.

I agree the cardio workouts are not that intense, well mostly just the Kempo, the plyo is intense, the cardio is good.

I have it and had one of the first DVDs that came out back in the beginning.

Thanks so much for the advice. I am patiently waiting to begin :thumbsup2

Is this a do-able exercise tape for someone who is extremely overweight (say 150-200lbs overweight)?

My friend's husband was thinking of getting this (actually she wanted to get it for him for Christmas) but decided not too, for fear it might be way too much for him at first.

I actually saw it for the first time on QVC the other day and the guy did say that you can modify each exercise if you can't do it fully right away.

But I guess she wants to know if it's suitable for someone who is a complete couch potato. LOL She too has about 40-50lbs to lose so she would use it as well but just worried that her hubby wouldn't be able to keep up with it.

So she's just wondering if she should break down and get it or if he should start out with something more his speed?

Thanks---

I can't comment too much since I have only been doing this for a short time. That being said, the P90X book does make a big deal about this being an "advanced" program and it has a "fit test" to determine if a person is "ready" for the program (stuff like how many inches can you jump vertically, and so on). There are a couple of programs that are recommended for people who aren't fit enough for P90X--I think they mention Slim in 6 and Power something.
I got concerned when I read that. I have 40-50 lbs to lose and have been a total couch potato but I decided to try anyway. I've found that things are easily modifiable. A lot of modifications are actually demonstrated in the videos. If there's something I absolutely can't do (and there are moves on there that are downright acrobatic!!) I just jog hard in place or do pushups or situps (the modified kind!) until that move is over. I'm looking forward to seeing my progress as I go along--hopefully by the end I'll be able to do most everything but it may take two 90-day cycles.

I think the whole "this is the most extreme workout ever" routine is a little gimmicky, since everything can be modified as much as necessary.

I think your friend could definitely go ahead, with doc's permission of course, if he's someone who doesn't mind modifying.

I would not recommend this to your friend. Yes you can modify the exercises, but you need some sort of base fitness level first.

Got to the beachbody website and look at Slim in 6 (more female geared but I have had success with it) or start with Power 90 (the predecessor of P90X).

P90, the original, is very doable and the first 45-50 days are between 35-48minute workouts.

Best of luck with their choice.

I tried it 8 months ago but I was traveling all the time and it was a hassle to do it in the hotel room.

Now I am not traveling and started it again on January 1st. I just finished the Kenpo routine and I think I will be able to finish this time around. Plus I have started Weight Watchers in early December so my diet is much better than it was before.

I did purchase more weights and a heart monitor for this go 'round.

Overall, I think it is a great workout and I look forward to seeing the results. Just "do your best, and forget the rest"!

Dave

theoretically, yes, it can certainly be modified to accomodate someone with (basically) zero fitness level. However, it really wasn't designed for that person, and the program doesn't really give a lot of direction for modification. Typically, they show you how to intensify, but only once in a while do they show you how to significantly modify, to the extent someone at that level would need. I agree with the poster above, start elsewhere, and work up to p90x.

After I posted about the modifications a male friend told me that guys don't like to modify...that they feel they must everything exactly like (or even better than) the instructor and will die trying. ;) Big generalization there. But I can see it might be the case. So maybe the modification thing works well for me because I'm a gal and have had years of learning to modify in aerobics classes, but for a guy it might be harder to let go of needing to do everything perfectly. And if you don't have exercise class experience where they show you how to modify things properly it might be harder too.

Well, as a guy, I have to modify based on my lack of flexibility. I just can't move the way they do for some parts of the video. That said, I'm working to improve in that area so that I can do it all the way it is meant to be done. I'm a week in and I've survived, but I also don't think I'd want to do this routine if I hadn't at least been moderately active before starting.

I did KenpoX for the first time this morning.... I now have a new favorite workout. I'm already looking forward to next Friday so I can do it again.

I'm looking forward to the Kenpo--haven't gotten to that one yet. I'm glad to hear you like it.

I woke up in the night so sore I couldn't go back to sleep for a while. It's not an injury type pain but just my muscles rebelling after having been so lazy for years. It isn't comfortable but it means something is working! And it reminds me to stay on my eating plan too.

Afwdwfan....which version of p90x do you have? I really want to try this, but not sure which version.

thanks

There is only one version of P90x, but it can be confusing, because they have renamed Tony Horton's One on One series as "P90X: One on One" Here is the link to P90X:

:thumbsup2 That's the one.

There's also Power90 or P90 which is kind of a precursor to P90X and then there's P90X+ which is supposed to be for after P90X. I've done neither of those so I don't know much about them.
