PVB Tower Charts, Sales Date and more!!!

After a bumpy start this morning at Poly, we are here and got a bit of information though it may already be "out there". Trials for CM's in Poly Tower to begin December 6 with a hard opening December 17. This was reiterated several times. I thought it was December 15, but no matter, the show must go on.

That being said, rounding the corner through the construction mess coming into Poly from the opposite side (no longer taking a left near the entrance to WL) gave a rather glaring view of the tower. It kind of sticks out like a sore thumb! I am reserving judgement until I can get a better look. We plan to tour DVC Preview Center at SSR some time this week as today just didn't work out (see below).

We had an awful time with our MB's and getting the door to unlock which took several trips to the desk and several people coming over to "fix it". I just tried the faucet in the kitchenette and it doesn't work...whatever, we'll be at EPCOT tomorrow so hopefully they can fix it then. We did get a $100 credit for dealing with the locks on our door AND our lunch at CC's was comped by a lovely woman using up her DDP's before she left! I believe she had 7 adult QS's from what I observed. We thanked her graciously. Karma, I guess!

Villa is in excellent condition (see exceptions above) with nothing worn. Now that DH is napping LOL, I can catch my breath as we are meeting DIL and son at Topolino's tonight. Family meeting to discuss potential add on(s). DIL says she loves OKW the best, well that was a surprise! Updates as they come...
:tink:

So I think that Moana sculpture (?) is adorable and impressive, but my inner lawyer is still screeching ATTRACTIVE NUISANCE.
If by “attractive nuisance,” you mean something that will attract looky-loos to the pools to get pictures, that was my first thought. My second thought was I really hope they have some plan to control pool access (but they apparently do not).

Wait… the new pool won’t have magic band access (like the two current pools)?

They don’t check magic bands (or at least never have when we have been at poly) and according to another poster there is no plan to do wrist bands for pool access (like at SAB). There’s tons of strategies to just follow someone into the pool area without tapping in with a key card/magic band. And those strategies are all over the internet.

Maybe I’m just being salty because it was so hard to find pool seats the last time we stayed at an MK resort and I overheard people talking about which resort they were staying at (and it was not that resort). Which then led me down an internet rabbit hole of tips and tricks to use Disney resort pools without being resort guests.

Thanks - I was worried they wouldn’t have the locked gates!

Something I have been keeping my eye on with each round of construction pics - exterior balcony partitions where the exterior design of the building does not follow a consistent pattern all the way up the building.

Like in this picture from early October (credit wdwnt.com), this is the monorail side of the building, the wing closest to GF. The structure itself has fixed balcony partitions on floors 2-5 but floors 6-7 have to date been "open."

But in this 10/21 pic (credit wdwnt.com) we see partitions have been added (can't 100% see the ones on the left given the angle, but let's assume they are there).

The public opening has always been the 17 of December. At least for Riviera there was a press/CM opening the day before. So if you hear something about the 15th, I'm guessing that may be press and others.

Also, Poly is the only place where we had to call the front desk multiple times for issues with MBs opening the door. The same was true for others in our hall. I'm pretty sure I was in Pago on that trip.

In the original design (and artwork) there was a second floor terrace there and the "Mushroom" stalk was it's main support and the "Mushroom" top was it's protective cover. That terrace is also the reason there is a second floor walkway inside the lobby that goes over to the windows, where a door to the terrace would have been located. For some unknown reason they cancelled the terrace but kept the "Mushroom" and the walkway.
.

I have found an original Artist Rendering showing the terrace.
I attached an insert of it below.
The image is a bit grainy but you can clearly see people on the terrace.
It is possible that they planned to have a bar up there as well.
It would have been a great place to get a drink and catch the fireworks!

Hehe. It will probably be an attractive nuisance in that sense, but I actually meant that you’re going to have dozens of children scrambling around and shoving trying to climb Moana and the mast (and the ropes?).

I'm glad someone else pointed this out! Design team - WHY!?

Another subtle gripe that I don’t think anyone else has mentioned here. The weird lobby mushroom. Is it supposed to mimic a tree? A beach umbrella? It doesn’t look like either - it just looks mushroomy. They have these in the new Epcot World Celebrations area too and I don’t understand it thematically there either. Why? Who is this maniac obsessed with hiding shrooms all over Disney? Can we get something functional instead? Or at least nice to look at? SMH.

I thought it was invoking wave/ocean?

But seriously - what about those structures screams “world celebration”? Maybe I'm not artistic or cultured enough to get it. They don’t even function as shade. They aren’t whimsical or futuristic to me, they are just abstract swoopy mushroom things.

IMO the ribs of the structure are too symmetrical and even to evoke a wave. I want some undulation if its supposed to be water. The mast of a ship would have been cool. A lot of options were possible that could have had a strong tie in… but instead…

Any lurkers out there getting ready or considering buying direct at the new Poly tower? The 29th is upon us.

I keep flip flopping back and forth but being able to use multiple CCs for sign up bonuses, 0% APR offers, the overall ease of buying direct, and the perks like evening hours and top of the world lounge for BLT stays makes direct an “easier” path (although believe me I know it’s not as economical, but the credit card shenanigans can help offset that).

What is the significance of the 29th?
