With only 20 bungalows DVC doesn't need the average DVC owner to be booking nights at the Poly. There are guests that will not stay in anything other than a suite, who might be interested in staying in a bungalow on the water. The bungalow might even be larger than the Poly suites. These guests would forfeit the Club level benefits though.

We, this family will use our cheap SSR points to maybe try out a studio for a few days the next time we get to Florida just to see what the hub bub is all about. But, we are going to Aulani instead using banking, which including airfare, is probably cheaper than staying in a bungalow for one night!

Who thinks up these outrageous point allocations anyway?

And don't forget that it is being released to current DVC owners for purchase on 1/12. Who's to say that they won't increase the cost per point when it is released to the public at a later date.

Even though I could afford to buy some points at the Poly, it doesn't mean I am stupid enough to do so.

Does anybody think that they will restrict traders from other resorts into the Poly sometime in the future to those people who bought direct and not through resale? We bought direct years ago, but a cheap way to get into the Poly bungalows could be to buy some cheap resale at OKW or SSR and trade in.

I'm excited for my first stay!

I am not at all surprised at the point cost or cash cost of the bungalows. The Poly has always had high priced suites and people do rent them, so I am sure the bungalows will rent out as well. What a view they will have of the MK fireworks!

The Poly was my first Disney resort and I still get a room there occasionally, so I am so happy that there are now DVC rooms. I also like the Moorea Building location as you can walk to Ticket and Trans to go to Epcot from the Poly and Moorea is very close.

I don't see how they can justify the points needed to stay in the bungalows. The second bedroom has only one bed, that gives the place only two real beds.

I would love to stay and try it out, but you really need 2 nights somewhere to get to relax and 320 points for that is way too much.

Might they make one bedrooms in another phase and then reallocate points?

Back in 1997, we stayed in Moorea (which was later named Tahiti and now again Moorea) on the third floor, second room from the end towards the pool. I think we paid about $300 a night for our room (we stayed nine nights) with the Magic Kingdom Club discount. We had five of us in the room. We had two queen beds and a real twin sized day bed.

If we booked that same room now for cash, it would cost us $6100 plus tax, tickets, food, etc. I think we spent about $5000 for that trip (plus our purchase of OKW points).

This is all so crazy.

Funny - I was at Poly twice 1997 - once in Moorea and once in Tonga - Easter and Xmas.

I paid full price for my visit to Tonga and the CM kept asking me if I had Magic Kingdom Club. I didn't even know what it was but eventually she gave me this discount on my room and saved me some cash right at the desk. Bet that rarely happens anymore!

Same trip we were coming back from dinner at the Grand Floridian and as we passed through the concierge desk area one of the CM's started to talk/play with my then 4 going on 5 year old. Gave her some coloring pages, leis, etc and then said, can you wait a few minutes? She came back with a stuffed Mickey for her. We still have that Mickey. We've had a lot of special moments over the years at Poly.

So, it's crazy to me also, but crazy in a good way. Time changes everything, and we can't stop time so might as well enjoy the time left to us, whether it be 50 years or until 2042 <g>.

Think how the owners are going to feel when the bungalows go practically un occupied for the first couple years, and then the points start to adjust to make them more affordable, thus raising the points for the studios.....If they reduce the bungalows by 33% ... approximately 50 points, times 20 is 1000 points, spread over 360 studios is about 3 points per night increase--- probably a good idea really--- people might be willing to pay an average of 100 points for the bungalows. I doubt anyone will pay what they are asking. If my 100 pt AKV contract goes through, I will have 550...... and I will never pay what they are asking for a night.

It will be okay because DVC is "legally required to adjust the point charts" and they will do so based on "member feedback".

I don't think it works that way. They can adjust points requirements across seasons in the same class room but not across categories. They are bound by the minimum avg that they filed when registering the TS documents.
So they can lower points needed to make a reservation but they can't increase them beyond the 22 (avg) for studios and 148 for bungalows.

Nope, they can lower bungalows and raise studios. But they are limited to the amount they can adjust.

When they made the large adjustments a few years ago there were several categories that received overall adjustments - and that meant some went up overall.

But - even if they have to keep the avg at amount they have in the POS it doesn't mean that they haven't started out lower and have room to go up.

Well. I'll be at the preview on Tuesday. I'll make sure to say how ridiculous the bungalow point requirements are and that I would have bought poly if they hadn't made it unrealistically unaffordable compared to all other DVC accommodations.
