Putting together a foot care bag for WDW

For wdw only, dd and I have bedroom slippers that are VERY cushioned and soft. We wear them in the resort room in the evenings, after showering. It's like a nice "thank you" to your feet for all that they did for you in the parks all day! :)

We have used Band-Aid brand blister block for the past several trips, and we have found it works better for us than Bodyglide.

I think avoiding foot problems (whether it's blisters or pain) can really be helped by wearing the right shoes. I've had multiple foot problems (two heel surgeries in each foot). I used to have pretty bad foot pain at WDW, but discovered Skechers Memory Foam sneakers for my trip in February 2014.

These shoes ROCK! They have about a thick layer of memory foam, and cushion your feet amazingly well. I had brought them, along with a couple of other pairs of shoes, planning to rotate them. I bought the Skechers about two days before my trip, and didn't have any time to "break them in" before leaving. I started wearing them the first day, and wore them all day, every say of my trip. Never had a single bit of foot pain, and not a single blister, the entire trip!

These arre the ones I got:

I have been looking at these (also have had ankle surgery) for a while. I will need to get them this week to break them in. Thanks. I hope my feet and ankles will feel "pampered" through my entire trip.

On my one day at DLR/CA in 2012, I suffered. I didn't bring a change of shoes (I bought a pair) and I ended up using a gallon Zip Loc bag at Blue Bayou to ease the swelling. Our lovely waiter filled it with ice for me and I kept it on my ankle under the table for the duration of dinner. Helped a lot.

I have plantar fascitis..and I do tend to get blisters easily. The best sandals I have found are Abeo flip-flop style. My feet feel better in those than they do in running sneakers with orthotics in them!

The other thing I have found that helps with the blisters is Aquaphor. I rub just a bit of it all around and in between my toes, as well as under the balls of my feet. Not enough to be greasy, but enough to kind of make it 'slippery' without being dangerous! It really helps. I carry a small tube of it with me if I notice any sign of rubbing or 'hot spots'. Even my daughters have found this very helpful.

Good luck!!!

Saw another post suggesting to pack a small basin to soak your feet in if you have foot problems - I wouldn't bother for healthy feet, but I do often ice my tendinitis after a day on my feet and I'd rather do it on a chair than perched on the tub in my value resort. Sounds like over packing, I know, but if you fill the basin with clothes it really doesn't take much room and happy feet are key to a happy park day!

I pack an inflatable baby bathtub. They run $12 or so on Amazon :)

I prefer Band-Aid Blister Blocker Stick to Body Glide, it's next to the band-aids at Target.

I also clip a safety pin around the scissors and include a small bottle of sanitizer, to sanitize it with and pop blisters (I know, ew). So mine has band-aids, blister band-aids, moleskin, small scissors, safety pin, sanitizer, Blister Blocker.

Put it all in a clear pouch or zip-loc bag, or you'll have to open it at bag check.

My chiropractor recommended bio freeze to me a few years ago. He gave me a few samples so I could try it on our trip. I would put it on my feet before I went to bed and it really did help. Now I have a supply at home that goes with me on every trip. I also never underestimate the power a simple Advil can have on relieving foot pain during the day.

Ooh, never thought of that. I have used Bio Freeze on my sore back, but never thought to bring it to Disney. I'm adding it to my list right now!

I've found Body Glide cheapest on eBay. I took some last trip but didn't need it. I always use moisture wicking/vented socks and my regular broken in sneakers and have been fine. At the first sign of a blister last trip, I put some mole skin on it for a few days and it was fine! I also recommend the Dr Scholl's blister bandages if you want something that lays a little more flat. They're also water proof.

Every night, I also rubbed peppermint lotion on my feet which worked wonders for achy feet. I used the one from the Body Shop last trip which was fine, but I think the one by Burt's Bees is the best.

Used to swear by Moleskin but now am a firm believer in Band Aid Blister Bandages. They do a much better job of protecting and not rolling up. My sister turned me on to these in Vegas and I already have 2 boxes put up for WDW in October

love the plan but really focus on prevention. Good quality walking or running shoes with socks!! Keep you feet as dry as possible. Gold Bond helps also. We bring extra socks after the water rides. Have fun at WDW

I completely agree with this, and I will add: no cotton socks. Stick with polyester. I prefer Swiftwik (you can pick them up at your local running store). And some Gold Bond or baby powder definitely helps.

I wear Spenco sandals, that are shaped like an orthotic insole, but they're flip-flops. I'll switch them out for my running shoes around midday for a change of pace (pun intended).

I also will go out to the resort pool and soak my feet/ankles/calves in the cool water after I return from the parks. Cool water always feels better on my tired, aching feet than warm/hot water does.

Great idea! I've also seen collapsible basins that would pack flat. These can be found online and in many of the discount home-helper type catalogs.

Sally Beauty sells an inflatable pedicure tub. It's rather small and easy to blow up by mouth. It's perfect for soaking feet and would be easy to pack.

Couldn't you just use the bathtub in your room? Unless you're in a handicap accessible room that only has a shower stall, you should be able to use the tub just fine. I've done that before - just place a towel on the edge of the tub to cushion your bum.

Moleskin works ok.... if you don't want to bring scissors, pre-cut it at home into various sizes and tote it along in a little ziplock baggie.

For us, moleskin gets too thick inside our shoes. We like the band-aid brand blister block bandages. They are awesome, and fit well inside your shoes (and between toes, which moleskin doesn't. We always pack normal (waterproof) bandaids and blister block bandaids whenever we travel. You can also cut these down as well if you just need a small piece.

Instead of peppermint lotion, I like to mix 5-10 drops of peppermint oil to 2-3 oz of coconut oil at home and put that in a travel size container to slather on at the end of the day. Easily portable, all natural, smells awesome, and has a wonderful cooling effect. This works well for headaches and sore muscles as well. Just keep it away from your eyes!

OP here. Lots of great ideas. I think I will get some sort of tub (inflatable or otherwise) so I can sit in a chair to soak my feet. The Band-Aid Blister protection thingies sound great. I think a combination of "protective devices" inside my shoes will be good. Different shoes, different needs. I do change out my shoes often. I have walking shoes/sandals I've owned for years that I know are comfy and broken in but will likely see what need is not being met a get more to break in over the next two months.

I have Bio-freeze but never thought about it for my feet. Good idea.

I will need to post a picture of this fabulous foot bag when it's put together.
