UGH! Can this get any worst????

I was helping a friend move yesterday and we were just about done. We went to the furniture store to pick up one end table and then go back to her place. I locked my stuff in the cab of the truck I was borrowing and we went inside to put the last of her stuff away and eat dinner. I left and got in the car, drove home and then realized my purse wasn't there. I thought maybe I left it at her place. So I called and told her check around and call me in the morning. So this morning she calls and no sign of my purse.

I back tracked and the last place I had it was in the truck infront of her place. I checked the dumpsters, the bushes, all over her place and even the furniture store. No sign of the purse.

So I called the bank to let them know I lost it. But after talking with them it was evident it was stolen. It was used at the gas station and another place and my account was over drawn. I closed the account, and now have to go in tomorrow to re open a new one. And I need to place a fraud alert on my credit report.

I filed a police report and they were great. Very thorough and they didn't make me feel dumb for leaving my stuff in the car. I almost never leave anything in my car, except for this one time. I am so ticked at myself. They took the report, but can only make it for petty theft. And I need to go to the next city over to report the fraud since my card was used there.

I feel so violated and upset. All the pictures of the sweetpea from when she was a baby are now gone. All my cards, my liscense, my social, my check book and a few other things. Plus I had my glasses and watch in there and keys to my office. Now I have to go through so much to replace and close things. And just knowing that there are things that I will never get back. UGH!!!!

I just got back from the store where I had to get temp glasses till I can get a new pair of perscription glasses. Plus, had to replace make up that was in my purse. I have no cash, no ATM card and no way to get any money for the time being.

Its gonna be a nightmare just sorting through it all and getting everything back in order. The officer who helped me said it will be a long time. Plus, Im afraid that whoever took it will come here since they know where I live and all.

Im not generally an emotional person, but I've been crying a lot today. Im stressed and drained. I hope everyting goes smoothely and I can deal with everything.

Sorry for this being long. Thanks for letting me vent.

That royally sucks! I'm so sorry. :grouphug:

I would feel exactly the same way!! I hope you feel better tomorrow! And, to put your mind at ease, I doubt the perpatrator will come to your house---he doesn't want to get caught! Plus, I've NEVER heard of a case where a purse was stolen and the criminal came to the owner's house, so I really, really think you are totally safe. I hope you get everything sorted out soon!

Stace,
I am so sorry this happened. I know it is frustrating - hopefully there will be no financial damage! Does someone else have pic's of sweetpea when she was a baby you could get copied?

Hugs to you...that really STINKS! Glad you got on top of it so soon.

My parents have some pics of the sweetpea as a baby. But not all the ones I have. I lost the one taken in the hospital. And a few others that I dont think any one has. Maybe, but probably not.

As far as financial damage, they already overdrew my account but I closed it now. And there will be a fraud alert placed on my credit, so hopefully nothing will happen there. But the officer that helped me out told me that if there is any identity theft, it could take up to 20 years to clear up. YIKES!!

Thank you to the rest.

WOW, that is just so horrible. :grouphug: to you!

So did someone pick the lock...or how did they actually get into the cab portion of the truck?

Sorry to have to say this but I am going to tell you that YOU tonight have taught me a very valuable lesson. I am very lax in locking my car and leaving my purse in it as well as unattended in shopping carts in the supermarket. I guess I am just too trusting.

I will be LOCKING up TIGHTLY from now on.

I hope you can get all this straightened out sooner than later.

:grouphug: Hugs to you. This happened to me once, about 15yrs ago. I felt thoroughly violated. I can't explain it, but it was the most vulnerable feeling. Some stranger actually went in there and :furious: took *my*things!

Hopefully, nothing will happen. Its sad you lost your baby pics. I lost the only picture I had of my late grandfather :guilty: But I still have all the memories. And I'm a lot more paranoid with my belongings now.

The truck was locked up tight. But they were able to open the little slider window behind the cab and reach in and grab the purse that was sitting my the stick shift. UGH. And I never leave anything in my car. Let it be a lesson to you all, it only takes one time for something to happen. I feel violated.

I have been there, done that, and got that t-shirt, and it's one I NEVER want again! :sad2: I know EXACTLY how you feel. The only peace I got from it was the fact they only got about $10 out of my wallet. :yay: DH and I had just done $100 worth of shopping at Walmart that evening. I was blessed enough that I realized mine was gone as soon as I did and was able to close my account immediately. It was the having to replace the license, SS card, get a new checking account and having to put a fraud alert out on my name that was a pain in the tushy! I believe kids stole my wallet because my debit card was found at the church across the street from my house. Had that been an adult who stole it, I'm sure they would have went to town charging on it. Thank you know who that didn't happen.

Blessings to you though and I hope you get everything worked out.

Oh you poor thing you! I am so very sorry that this happen to you! :grouphug:

Just a public service announcement... you should NEVER keep your SS card on you! Memorize your number and leave the card at home with your important papers.

I have left my purse locked in the car many times.... I will never do so again! This guy was probably just looking for a free tank of gas and some free soda- probably ditched the rest some place.... it might still show up!!

First- change the locks on your house immediately (if your keys were in there, too). Better safe than sorry.

This happened to my MIL a few months ago. She was grocery shopping with her mother (who uses a walker, so they hang their purses on her walker). They turned their backs for one minute and some chick walked by and stole my MIL's purse off the walker! To make matters worse, it was a little less than a week before MIL and FIL left to take a trip across the country for their wedding anniversary.

She had her cards, her cash, pictures, make up, her keys, and to top it off, it was a new purse she'd just gotten for their trip. She was most upset about the pictures and the total feeling of violation. They never did find her purse, but she was able to get most of the stuff replaced before they left. And they did change the locks the next day.

I am going to guess this is a "game" or something for thieves...look for trucks with windows in tha back cab section and see it you can easily slide that window open and get to whatever you can.

We have had two pickups a Ford Ranger and a Chevy S-10 with that back window in the cab section that slides and they have a clip to close it...that is all...no lock at all. We had CAPS for the trucks but still the cap met the back window and you could still easily get into the cap of the truck and go towards the front and SLIDE the window open. EASY & EASY for any thief.

I'm on the phone right now trying to report everything for my husband. He was pickpocketed and everything's gone. Filed the police report but they said because there was no physical altercation between him and another person, it has to be recorded as lost - my hubby doesn't lose his wallet. Ugggh, it's so frustrating - the government says you must report this loss immediately - I've been on hold for over an hour ...

What a shame! You must be so frustrated! Here's wishing for brighter things this week for you. :grouphug:

I'm so sorry this happened to you! :grouphug: We had someone break the passenger side window out of our car (in front of a busy restaurant) and steal our diaper bag. All the theif got was a dirty diaper and a bottle of breastmilk but still, it was a terrible feeling. Knowing someone thought it was OK to break out window, and take something that didn't belong to them. :sad2: I hope you are able to get everything straigtened out soon and go back and search the area for your pictures you may just find them. My SIL had her purse stolen and after reporting it she and her dh went searching the area and found all her stuff in some bushes (including her cell phone and $1500 that she had in and envelope in her wallet). All that was taken was her ATM and credit cards.

Just a quick update on whats going on with my stolen purse.

I went and filed a fraud report with the other city. That was two hours out of my day. The officer was very nice though and didn't make me feel dumb for leaving my stuff in the car. He called me back after I got home to double check a few things and told me they were heading over to pull the tapes from the gas stations my card was used at. Yeah, the person who stole my stuff bought stuff at the gas station....a few times. Another gas station and In N Out. The only issue I had at the station was that the officer needed my height and weight to fill out the whole report. UGH!!! Can it get worst?

I went to the bank to open a new account. That was a treat. After I explain everything was stolen, she asked me to give her my id so she can open my account. Ummm hello, I just told you it was stolen. Took me almost 2 hours to get that straightened out. And since all my money was taken out of my old account, I have no money to put in the new one. But she wouldn't let me open it without something in it. UGHHHH!!! So now I have a checking account with $2 in it. Now itsn't that nice.

I was able to get my check stopped from being directly deposited into the old account. But they aren't sure I will be getting cut a check at all.

Tomorrow I will be heading down to Socail Security to get it renewed, then I will be spending my saturday morning down at the DMV. Not to mention all the other little things I need to replace and get taken care of.

Please please please, keep a check on your stuff and dont leave it in the car. Let this be a lesson to you.

several yrs ago DH's truck was broken into the same way. Luckily there was nothing in it. They did try to steal the radio and cracked the dash. It happened at work in a secure parking lot too. Had to have been someone at work/security etc.
