My husband and I are ready to make the plunge into DVC! However we're debating whether or not we want to purchase in person or virtually. If virtual, we can buy tomorrow. If in person I'll have to wait a little bit. I also rather not spend the money to go down just to book if there's no additional perks to booking in person

Anybody who's recently purchased virtual or in-person can share if you got any welcome gift or any other perk? Thank you!

If a June UY works for you it’s a great time to buy because you will get 2020 points that they will bank right away that you won’t be paying maintenance fees on. Any later UY will also have this benefit. I don’t think there’s any reason to wait til you are on site.

I think there are some places you are not allowed to buy remote because of local laws.

The process is likely the same either way. You give them your CC, they run it and have you check your account to see the points. You sign the paperwork virtually, at a later time. If you get 2020 points, you’ll need to call MS to bank them if less than 4 months to your use year. We added on in September while onsite and that was the process. They also mail you your backpack and a welcome home certificate.

We're hoping to get an August or September UY. Is that even possible if we were to buy now?

Once you decide on the one you want be firm, sometimes they try to tell you they aren’t selling that UY right now. They will sell you the one you want they will “make an exception”, they have to match UY when an existing DVC member buys so they are all available.

I asked my guide this question before we added on last month and she said even if we were at Disney that they would still send the documents via docusign and do the process remotely. About a week after I received the infamous backpack and a collection of random postcards, magnets, etc.

OP, just so you know, what you are referring to as purchasing "virtually" was around long before COVID. It just wasn't called that. You call and tell the Guide what you want. The Guide tries to convince you to buy something which will get them a higher commission. You stick to your guns. The Guide says they have to check. Then the Guide calls back and says it's available. You give a credit card number for the amount you want to put on the card up front. The Guide mails you the paperwork; you sign it and mail it back.

Ah gotcha. Thank you for the tips! Do you know if you can split the cost on multiple credit cards ?

This is the perfect description about the back and forth between the guide!! 😂

I met with a guide in person, I told him the resort I wanted and UY, and he said it would be no problem and I got all of the paperwork emailed later that day. Super easy. I guess it depends on the guide

I'm not sure if you can split the cost of a direct purchase on multiple credit cards. My experience was that when I spoke to the Guide on the phone, I gave him a credit card number for charging the downpayment. For one contract, I mailed a check for the balance when I sent in the paperwork. For the other contract, I said I wanted to charge it all to the credit card, and the Guide said he would have the balance charged 30 days after the downpayment. I don't know if you have to use the same credit card for the balance. If you want to use two different credit cards, you could certainly ask.

I did not finance, so I can't give you steps about how that works.

We're buying outright but was hoping to put on our credit cards to get some points :)

In the past, a lot of people would post about paying for their direct purchase with their Disney Visa, so that they would get the rewards points. You don't hear as much about that lately. Maybe people have decided that other credit cards have better rewards, or maybe people just haven't felt inclined to mention it.

Hi,
I just bought 2 days ago virtually. Called, got a quote emailed to me. Called back 30min. later after I look at everything and was done with the down payment, loan documents in less then 15min. Points were in my account I think a couple hours later (maybe it wasn’t even that). They make it super easy. I just have to print a page and get it notarized and it’ll all be done.
I don’t think you get anything extra in person. Blue card and backpack will still come in the mail.
