Looking to purchase a new video camera . What kind can you recommend? Do i go hard drive or dvd? Where to buy?

DH bought me a hard drive camcorder for Christmas. I love it!! It is so easy to use. I can even upload the video to a photo website (like photobucket) and send it to my relatives. Its also easy to back up onto a DVD if you want.

Out of the 2 I would go with hard drive.

DVD will only record for 60mins and the dvd's MUST be finalized before they will play so you must be very careful.

If you get a hard drive camcorder find out what format it saves in and make sure your computer supports that format or you will be having to convert it to edit it/burn it to dvd which takes a LOT more time.

I really still prefer the mini dv camcorders, probably for another year or so as there are still some bugs with the hard drive ones.

Neither. I would go with Mini DV. They still seem to be the best at this point in time, imho. Check on the photography board here, they have some good insight and links.
