I have some questions about purchasing first through resale and then adding on through Disney. I am thinking about purchasing about 130 - 150 points at SSR or OKW through a reseller, then trying to purchase about 50 points at the BCV or BWV. I have several questions about the wisdom of this, however.

1. Will this give me two resorts that I can book at 11 months?

2. If I am able to get identical UY's, will both sets of points be on the same contract, or will there be two separate contracts?

3. Would I have 180 - 200 points combined to use at the 11 month month mark at either BCV or SSR?

4. Lastly will all of my points be available for use on cruises, adventures, etc...

Thanks for any help on my questions.

Yes but only for the points owned at each specific resort

2. If I am able to get identical UY's, will both sets of points be on the same contract, or will there be two separate contracts?

One will be the master contract and the other a secondary contract but they can be used seemlessly at 7 months
contract numbers will be the same but with a suffix difference-example
master 1000.00
Secondary 1000.01

3. Would I have 180 - 200 points combined to use at the 11 month month mark at either BCV or SSR?

No you'd have 130-200 at SSR and 50 at BCV to book at 11 months or 180-200 anywhere at 7 months

4. Lastly will all of my points be available for use on cruises, adventures, etc...

No only the 50 points purchased directly-Disney can and does track that

Thanks for any help on my questions.

Points retain their home resort. Meaning, you could only use your BCV points to book BCV at 11 months. You would have to wait until the 7 month window opens to book BCV with your OKW points.

If you're planning to use points for out-of-DVC options like DCL or ABD, be sure you completely understand the restrictions on those uses. For instance, not all DCL sailings/cabins are available on points, DCL sometimes shuts down the use of points altogether for long periods of time, and the ability to use points for DCL or ABD is not guaranteed in your contract and can be terminated at any time. The points required for such options are also not fixed, and can and do go up frequently.

Also look at point charts. With the number of points you're buying, many cruise itineraries will be out of reach without banking and borrowing. Most ABD itineraries cost 500-1200 points per person and won't be possible at all for you, even with banking and borrowing.

Thanks for explaining this. I was looking at buying the points from Disney to give me the extra perks and ability to use points for cruises, etc.., but it sounds like the extras may not be worth the extra costs involved.

using the points for cruising is a really bad use of points. You're much better off renting the points and then using the cash to book your cruise.

David's rentals will handle both transactions for you to make it easier if that is something you're interested in. I have never done it...but I have seen their advertisements for that service. I have not heard any negative reports from sellers using David's. It's just a tradeoff of money vs convenience.

The only real perk that is being offered right now that helps to bridge the gap between direct and resale is the DVC AP discount. At about $220-$280 in savings per person, the extra money you pay for a small direct contract to supplement your larger resale purchase will quickly be mitigated by these savings. While it's important to note that perks can go away at any time, there has been a DVC discount on annual passes in one form or another for at least the past five years that I know about.

Buying to use for cruises is, and always has been, a very bad idea. It's nice to have options but to do so for cruises means one is paying both twice as much for the points AND buying more points at the higher cost. The best situation currently for most is to buy resale and add 25 retail. You'll have to decide what's best for your situation but if you're ultimate goal is to get the the EPCOT area, buying all points at BWV or BCV might be your best option or you might wait for the new resort. It really depends on your goals for DVC usage.
