Purchasing Extra Points for $15

I have a question about purchasing the extra points for $15 from Disney. If you have enough points but you don't want to use them because you know you are saving them for a future trip (where you need the 11 month advantage), will Disney allow you to purchase the the extra points?

For example, I am hoping to cancel a Saturday night on my HHI this October and add two nights at the end. It will cost me 10 extra points. I have points I can borrow, but I don't want to. Can I just purchase the extra points, or will they make me borrow?

Not sure exactly what you mean...the points that you are allowed to buy are for finishing up a reservation that you normally wouldn't have enough points for. You are only allowed to purchase points to finish a reservation once a year, and you are only allowed to buy up to 24. Did you mean you didn't want to use all of your current year's points for a reservation and wanted to fill it in using purchased points?

No, you will not need to borrow. As long as you are within 7 months you may purchase up to 24 points ($15@) to make a reservation. Those points cannot be banked or carried over into the next Use Year.

As long as you don't have points left in your current UY. You can only use the points in the UY in which they were purchased. If you have points left in your UY, but want to buy more, you can not do that.

You may have to ask. When I made my last reservation, which was in the 7 month window, MS was going to automatically borrow points from the next use year, "ok now we are borrowing points from your 2011 use year...which contract do you want me to take them from?" I was like what about the one time use points...

If I hadn't asked about them, it would not have been an option. Just something to keep in the back of your head when you call.

Yes, that answers my question. So if I don't want to borrow points, I don't have to. I need those 2012 points for my future HHI summer reservations, so I don't want to use them for this reservation. I would rather purchase the few points I need. Thanks!

Thanks for the clarification edit! OK makes sense now...and yes you are right! You don't need to borrow points to finish a vacation if you don't want to, you can just purchase them directly from Disney. Just make sure you ask them to do this up front when you book so they don't accidentally borrow from the following year!
