Purchasing airline tix with debit card

I never realized that there was a $500 max per transaction with my debit card, this morning I tried to buy 4 roundtrip airline tix with Southwest and kept getting declined even though I have more than enough money in my checking account to cover. Fortunatly the awesome people at Southwest put my flight on a hold until I could call in to my bank and have them raise them limit. Thank You to Southwest, they could have easily said I was SOL, I booked the same flights for another family (using his cc info of course)( while waiting for my issue to be fixed) and his rate is $250 more than mine and last I checked it has gone up again, this hold saved me approx. $400


Thanks again to Southwest, this is why they are the best IMHO

Which bank is that? I know that my bank has a $400 daily limit on PIN based transactions, but no limit when running it as a Visa.

Same here....I have a $500 on debit transactions (pin based) but have no limit when I use my VISA. Heck...they even let me use it for more than I have in my account and then charge me a fee. I only made that mistake once.

It is with my local bank, I've never had this happen before as well. Kinda had me worried, initially i thought it was because when I hit the next button a message came up saying that there were no seats available, then I backed out and selected another flight and did it again, thats when I got the declined message, thought that maybe it threw up a red flag. In the end i got the flight I wanted at the lower rate!!

ccgirl... I just noticed you are also from Cape Cod, the bank is First Citizens Federal Credit Union in Hyannis, i'm going in there today to figure out what is up, maybe it's the way I have it set. Good to know for the future

I've used my debit card exclusively for about the last 7 years. My bank has great limits, though ... $1,000 daily for cash withdrawals (at an ATM, using my PIN) and $5,000 daily for purchases (signed for, not using a PIN, run through the VISA system).

I missed you were from the Cape the first time. I actually use TDBanknorth. It was Cape Cod something or other when I first opened but TDBank bought them out. I can set my pin transaction limit. I figure I never have a need to use more than $400 in cash in one day. My credit limit is as much as I have in there. Good luck...oh, and welcome to the DIS. It is addicting.
