Anyone ever wanted a 25 point contract but had to purchase a larger one and just sold off the remaining points? What would be the pros and cons to this?
Not sure what you mean. If you mean buying 200 points and selling 175 of them, you can't do that. Whatever size contract you buy, you keep. Only the developer (DVD) can break up contracts.
If you mean buying more points than you need and renting unneeded points, sure you can do that.
Personally, I'm in the buy less than you think you need and make it work camp, but that doesn't mean my strategy is right for your family.
I'm in the buy more than you need with intent to rent or sell off and keep them all for myself camp.

We accidentally went with this strategy. We bought enough points so that we could rent out a third of them so we could pay our dues. Unfortunately, we love using them too much, and we have yet to rent any out!

IMO there are several moving parts to this question. They include the following issues.Anyone ever wanted a 25 point contract but had to purchase a larger one and just sold off the remaining points? What would be the pros and cons to this?
We had this very elaborate spread sheet, where it all made tons of sense. But our spreadsheet failed to measure how incredibly tempting 150 extra points are. So so so so tempting!!!!!Yeah... "accidentally".......and.... "unfortunately".........um... me too?.......so that's our story, right?......lol
Timeshares, like personal finance, is mostly psychology and far less math.We had this very elaborate spread sheet, where it all made tons of sense. But our spreadsheet failed to measure how incredibly tempting 150 extra points are. So so so so tempting!!!!!
How interesting. We finally decided to buy this year with plans for a DVC trip every 2-3 years and to rent out the points every 1-2 years to help cover costs. However, when we passed ROFR and started planning our trips in a spreadsheet, it suddenly shows trips every year, with no points left for renting! We had this very elaborate spread sheet, where it all made tons of sense. Glad to hear it's not just us!How interesting. We finally decided to buy this year with plans for a DVC trip every 2-3 years and to rent out the points every 1-2 years to help cover costs. And if it showed 2017 those would be gone too. (For me at least)Ahhh, addonitis!!! What a lovely thing!
Not even two years since we purchased our first contract, and we already bought two more via resale...
Still my point counters on my DVC login page say 2015 points: 0. 2016 points: 0.
Sigh....
