Has anyone ever purchased a disney timeshare via a resale? My husband and I are thinking about buying in the Hilton Head and want to make sure we would be able to book at a Disney Orlando property without any problems.

If you post this on the Disney Vacation Club board, I am sure you will get plenty of helpful information. We are members but made our purchase with Disney.

You should always buy where you want to stay the most. If you purchase at Hilton Head, you could possibly at times not be able to book the resort at WDW you want, when you want it. Certain times are very hard to get at 7 months out.

With the building of Saratoga Springs and the addition to it, no one is sure how the ever growing membership of DVC will affect booking at 7 months.

Sammie gave you good advice. Hang out on the DVC boards for a bit and gather information. DVC is a very large investment and you want to be sure you spent your $$ wisely!

Once you get over to the DVC Board, you'll hear "Buy where you want to stay." Your home resort will give you the best opportunity to stay there over others without your resort as a home resort. So, if you want to stay at HH in the summer, buy HH. If you want to stay at VWL at Christmas time, buy VWL. If you want to stay at BWV or BCV during the summer or Food & Wine time, buy BWV or BCV. If you want to be near DTD, buy at SSR. If you want the biggest and the best (I'm partial), buy OKW.

exactly.

Buy where you want to stay...I agree we own at VWL for our summer & Christmas Trips. Then we purchased an add-on at BWV for our Food & Wine Trips. I didn't buy resale, but many members have.

We're in the process of buying resale. Just waiting to close. We used the Timeshare Store and have been please with their service. There is a tonne of info on resales around the boards, take a look and ask lots of questions.

We had the option of buying a HH resale or SSR from DVC. We chose HH:
1) Price per point was cheaper. We could get 200 HH points for roughly the cost of 175 SSR points.
2) Contract came with banked points plus all 12/04 points. We would have had to wait until 6/05 for our 1st SSR points.
3) Low maintenance fees. HH has the 3rd lowest fees. Our fees this year are netting to be $3.88 per point b/c of a credit from '04 fees.
4) We live in NC, so we wanted the 11 month advantage at HH for summers. We did not see any 11 month advantage at SSR. Unless they start guaranteeing views/locations like BWV, then those that book at 11 months or one week have the same chance of getting a DTD view. Plus SSR is going to be the largest, so there always should be availability at 7 months or less.

Plus, the big unknown. What will the resale market be like for SSR points in a few years. More owners = more sellers. How long will it take a contract to sell and how much support will DVC give to keep SSR prices elevated via ROFR?

IMHO, with the eventual size of SSR, you should have no problem at least booking there at 7 months and if you would be happy there, buy HH and save some $. If you won't be happy there and you must have BCV/BWV/VWL, then buy a resale of one of those to get the 11 month window. OKW, with it's lowest fees, is a good choice too. Plus you can get the 11 month advantage on "cheap" Grand Villas.

We bought resale thru The Timeshare Store and were/are very pleased. At first, we bought SSR on DCL. Once we toured SSR, we decided that it was a little too large for our tastes. We were at BWV for a fireworks cruise and fell in love! Then I told my DH about TTS and he started checking out their site. We got more points for less $$$. DS and I had our first stay at BWV last month and are so happy with our choice.

TTS people are great! If there is a specific UY or amount of points you want, call them and they'll watch for what you want and will call you before it hits the list. They were very easy to work with and we'll be buying from them again in the near future.

Ditto, just bought 2 BWV reslaes thru TTS, no problems and great service.

Although I believe you can most likely get a ressie if you stay flexible with dates and times of year I would still "Buy where you want to stay most of your times there". I still think 11 month booking is important when you really want a specific date.

Good Luck

Yes, we have bought from The Timeshare Store. Very good experience. Youare treated just the same as direct purchasers.

However, making reservations at other resorts is really about supply and demand at 7 months booking window. BCV and VWL are smaller resorts with avid owners and a pretty spectacular draw for certain times of the year -- particularly the holidays. If busy times are when you want to go I would buy where you want to stay most often.

If you book a few months out, you will always be able to stay at WDW no matter where you buy. And if you can't book 7+ months out, it doesn't matter where you buy.

But, as has been said, your choices in booking get slimmer the closer to your trip you book. Popular choices are often reserved as the eleven month window opens (that includes Standard View and Boardwalk View rooms at the Boardwalk during Food and Wine, Grand Villas anywhere over holidays, VWL around the Christmas season, two bedroom dedicated Queens at BCVs, other obscure things you don't want to think about now). Sometimes people get lucky with these things sometimes they don't. Sometimes they also get unlucky - and even at times that they don't expect to be popular, rooms that shouldn't be in high demand are completely booked up.

Please read your Private Messages.

I have sent 2 and they haven't been read. It will answer alot of your questions.

HAPPY VACATIONING,

Whether or not you will be able to get bookings at WDW if oyur home resort is at HH depends on when you want to go and where you want to stay.

If you must stay at BWV or BCV during the Food & Wine Festival in the fall, or your vacation will be ruined, then buy your points at one of those 2 resorts. If you would be happy to just on WDW property and wouldn't care if you were at SSR, OKW or VWL, then perhaps buying HH would be fine.

If you must stay at VWL during the Christmas season to see their decorations, or your vacation will be ruined, then buy your points there. If you are happy with one of the other WDW resorts at Christmas, then you should be OK.

I have generally always been able to get a reservation at OKW, no matter how close to my arrival date I have booked. I imagine SSR will be the same, as they are similar size resorts, in a location that some folks feel is less desirable than the Boardwalk/Epcot/MGM area(where you have BCV & BWV) or the MK area(where you have VWL). This year during Spring Break time I tried to get my nephew a reservation at OKW for 2 nights in a studio and was unable to do so, but that is the first time I have not been able to get a reservation at all. In the past, I have not been able to get a reservation at my resort of choice all the time, but I have always been able to get something at OKW.
