Hi,

I thought I once read that you could purchase up to 15 points per year from Member Services, but of couse I can't find the thread. Is this true and what is the cost per point?

Thanks a bunch...am considering putting in a bid on a contract but the number of points is slightly less than we were hoping for.

You can purchase up to 24 points per year from Disney for $15 pp. But these are only to fill out a reservation if you need a few extra. It's like renting points directly from Disney. The reason it isn't more is because the minimum to buy direct is 25 points.

The one time use points are only available at the 7 month window and as mentioned, only when you need to complete a reservation and are short.

So, they wont' do you any good at your 11 month window and Disney can always eliminate it as an option as well.

You can only buy points from DVC at 7 months or less. They don't have home resort priority.

Thanks for the replies. Does anyone know if once I'm a member could I go on the waiting list to purchase 25 points as an add on for VGC? Would those points be at the going rate for new purchases?

Yes to both questions.

Thanks! I forgot to ask about closing costs for a small add on like that. Any idea?

No closing costs, if you buy direct. If you are only looking for 25 points, I would just get added to the wait-list to buy direct at $130/pt.

A 25 point resale contract will be priced at around $100/pt. Closing costs will add close to $10/pt on a small contract. A direct contract will provide current use year points, which they will allow you to bank; worth at least $10/pt. Plus you have the hassle of worrying about ROFR.

A small point add-on at VCG just makes more sense as a direct purchase.

Actually, Disney is charging for closing costs now. I'm not sure the exact amount, but it's less than closing costs on a resale contract.

Certainly, I am the new guy here and I do not want to step on any toes but… the first week of May, 2012 I was sent a direct purchase contract for 160 points VGC, June UY, all 2011 points (banked) and all 2012 points forward for $130/point inclusive of all costs. I was not a DVC member at the time, so maybe new sales and add-ons are handled differently. I do know (because I am looking at the contract) that there were no closing costs and the total amount due was $20,800 ($130 x 160). It is possible California is different than Florida too.

Interesting question on closing costs...since 2006, when I bought my first (of six) contracts (all direct), Disney went from not charging closing costs at all, to charging them for new contracts, but not for add-ons, to charging them (at a reduced rate--in the general vicinity of $250) for every sale.

Now, it looks like maybe they've stopped charging closing, maybe at least for first purchases?

Does anyone have current info on this? I'm not in the market for more points, but closing costs "stopped me" not too long ago. If DVC is no longer charging for closing, I might get a few more points...maybe I ought to call my guide? (Except if I do that, I will for sure buy more points and I really really really don't want to do that, at least right now)...
