I'm new to this whole thing. I was thinking of buying a low-point resale (100) at Vero (lower costs) and then another low-point (100-150) resale at WDW to "backdoor" my holiday vacations. I'm also thinking the multiple location aspect would allow me more options. Any ideas on what my downside would be here?

Also, the Disney cruises seem awfully expensive (regarding point values), I am figuring something out wrong or they out-of-line on costs.

Thanks.

The DCL points are out of line because of the system for determining the points. DCL doesn'st give DVC enough of a break on the front end and there are too many variables when DVC rents the points.

We've discussed the issue of buying a less than 150 ponts contract resale as your initial entry and I know it's been done. I don't recall though anyone who both bought a small contract initially AND addes on less than 150 points both. It may have happened but I don't recall seeing it. I also haven't seen anyone say they weren't allowed to add on. Bottom line is you'll have to ask DVC. They could say no though I suspect they'll just mutter under their breath and let you do as you suggest. There are a couple of members of this board that bought as you are thinking, maybe they'll have more direct information about the add on aspect.

I am not sure what the saving would be buying the DVC resort with the highest dues.

I also think that the difficulty in ALWAYS, FOREVER and EVER being forced to use the seven month window while planning the majority of your stays at WDW is not a good idea.

Using points to cruise

is expensive and you can't book until the 11 month window. The cabin you may want, may be gone to the people that book with cash from 18 months out.You will also have to pay a $75 booking fee through MS to book it through DVC.

Also pts to cruise have gone up every year, for the last 3-4 years. Some posters say that may fluctuate yr to yr(raise pts or lower it), but I will believe that when I see it.

If you have the extra pts, or soon to expire pts, and don't want to go through the hassle of renting pts and paying cash for the cruise, it is a very easy process and option to have to go through MS.

P.S. "Welcome to the DIS"!!
