I purchased some Disney Cricut (scrapbook) products and won on ebay last week, I was reading in a different site that Customs had confiscated these products at the border check and had fined the PURCHASER!!! I am starting to freak out now. It had something to do with companies not being able to sell this product internationally.

Has anyone ever heard this happening, and why are they fining the Receiver and not the SELLER!!!:confused3

I heard about something similar...had to do with copyright laws or something...however I have ordered some cricut disney embellishments off Ebay and have never had a problem with customs issues. I hope you don't either....always good to check out your sellers!!

thanks, this was my first Ebay experience, and i looked at the ratings but not sure if any were Canadian purchasers...

Also don't forget you will have to pay duty when your product arrives...

Any idea if there is a website to check out what i might pay. Is it a percentage or items done separately?

You can expect to pay at least the equivalent of your provincial sales tax and the GST + a handling fee of at least $5.

for those who purchase items from Ebay, how long should i expect to receive my items. the purchased advised me that it was shipped on Sat 19th. Will it take days or weeks?

It has been my experience that both letters and parcels from the United States can take anywhere from a few days to about two weeks to arrive. Today I received a package in the mail from Williamsville, NY. It was mailed on May 15th. That is 8 days for a 175 km trip.

Also, there's no taxes or fees assessed on items costing less than (I think) $25. They'll just come right to you.

I usually receive my ebay purchases within 3 weeks.

It also depends how the item is shipped. My husband bought some hockey cards and had to pay brokerage fees to UPS of over $30. :scared1: Just so they could determine that in fact the item was duty free. We never have anyone ship UPS anymore. Only USPS. Hope you receive your parcel duty free!!;)

Hypothetically you could ask the seller to make down the volue and indicate gitf...not that I have done this :rolleyes1

So i received my items and DH signed for the package with Canada Post. There was no charge at the time, will i be billed or assume everything is fine? :confused3

I would think that all is good now. Any time we have had to pay custom's charges, we needed to do it before we got the package.

I am happy to hear that your transaction is complete and no more worries!

Remember that for any other transactions you make, if you do get dinged for customs, you can always dispute it...if they charge duty for more than what you paid for it...all you have to do is prove how much you paid and they will give you a refund prorated to that amount plus the custom's handling fee...my husband is an ebay-oholic and we have had lots of experience with this...happy future ebay-ing!:cheer2:

I have yet to pay duty on any thing i have bought on E Bay all where shiped USPS ( one time the seller marked the My Pall Mickey that i bought a toy and a gift )
