Just wondering,

I knw there is a $8/pt. purchase incentive, but is there anything that is negotiable? 1st yr. MF's for the surrent yr. usage (March)?

Also, are there any incentives we should ask for... WDW passes or annual passes... etc.?

Thanks

Sorry, but DVC doesn't work like other timeshares, so nothing is negotiable. It's very straightforward. It's -$8 per point, period. There are no closing fees for this, so you will pay $90($92?) X the number of points you want. That's the same for everyone who is a DVC member. We all get essentially the same deal.

Once you are a member, you will find that Disney isn't like any other timeshare in how it sells to you, and its rules are completely different. If you have other timeshares, you are in for an education. ;)

There's a minumum point purchase to get the discount. It's either 100 or 150 points. Otherwise, it's $98/point for SSR. The discount doesn't apply to any quantity of points at the sold-out resorts, so points there are $92/point.

So essentially, it is really only a $2/discount if all others are selling at $92.

How about WDW passes or annual passes?

Thanks!

Another newbie Q!

How about ongoing Park Passes or Hopper discounts?

ALso, how about special events like the Not So Scary Helloween Party and Micky's Magical Christmas Party?

Thanks

Sorry, no. You won't get ANYTHING else, except a tote bag, and maybe a litho of SSR. Again, that's not how Disney does business.

No, unless there is a current incentive for free passes that is offered to everyone purchasing. The free park pass incentive ended over 10 years ago (free if you stayed on points until the year 2000), and they are not currently offering any free annual pass vouchers (as they recently did) for add-on contracts. As stated, it is what it is, no negotiations.

After you are a member, there are Ap discounts available ($100 off, $75 off renewal), but all perks, including the current AP pricing is subject to change...in fact the AP discount perk was just added this year. There is no current discounts on MYW hopper passes and you can not negotiate "special perks" as an individual.

No, not quite. SSR has an expiration of 1/31/2054. The other resorts which are sold out, expire in 1/31/2042. You need to adjust for the different terms to understand the price difference.

There are wait lists to buy into the other resorts from the developer. A resale is probably a better option for those.

There is a discount on APs for members. But the free pass program ended in 1999. As others have said DVC does not negotiate. If you want to haggle, buy a resale.

And if you do too good a job of negotiating the price down, Disney will exercise its Right of First Refusal. Then you get to start all over again!

I think the only thing you might have some wiggle room with DVC are the points themselves. Say you purchase a new contract and you are already past some of the banking deadlines (whether it be 50%, 25%, etc) and you wont' be able to use the points before they reset, you might could negotiate to have them bank those so you don't lose them. Other than that, things are pretty cut and dry.

Yes I was able to bank my 2004 points in June BWV 200 pts  :Pinkbounc

Without knowing your use year, and the total number of points you own (was the 200 an initial purchase or an add on purchase or maybe the total of the initial and the add on?), we can't tell if that was an exception to the usual banking rules or not.

For example, if you had an initial contract of 150 points and bought 50 more and your use year was October, you could legally have banked all 50 of those 2004 points in June (if you hadn't already banked more than 50 of the original 150).

That 's because with an October use year, you can bank up to 50% of your total allotment as long as you do it by the end of June. If you hadn't banked any of the initial 150, you could have waited until the end of July to bank the 50 add on points.

I added on a couple days ago and I have an Oct. UY, my guide told me they made a new rule that you can bank all your points when doing an add-on. I was past my 25% banking deadline by a couple days. When I called MS to make my reservation, I said I wanted to bank all my add-on points, she said I was past my banking deadline so she had to make a call (don't know who she called) then she came back and said they were banked. I think that is great if they really did change it. Those banked points help make it worth buying directly through Disney.

That's good to know. I'm waiting for my final paperwork to close on a resale then I wanted to do an add-on (I'll have Oct UY), but if I can't get the banked 2004 points, I'll be going resale for the add-on.

Could you imagine what a disaster it would be for Disney if Disney did that? If they gave someone a special deal, that person would be on the Internet (probably this board) gloating about it within minutes, and then Disney would have to give that deal to everyone.

Congratulations and welcome home, too!

The 100% deadline for a December use year is the end of May, so they did make an exception to the banking rules for you!

Best wishes-

I was offered a banking exception on my add on as well, although I did not grab it. I have a BWV April UY, and was looking at buying in at SSR this past March when they were offering an extra 100 points as a one time incentive. Anyway, they were sold out of April 05 SSR points, so I was left with April 06 if I wanted the deal. Instead, I asked if they would sell me April 04 and allow me to bank them into 05. Keep in mind that this was March 05, I think two weeks left in the use year, which means the banking windows were long gone. Anyway, they agreed to do it, but there was a catch. Because I live in CA, they did not have a license to sell me 04 SSR points over the phone, I could only buy them in person and would have to come to Florida before the 04 UY was up (I think there was 8 or 9 days left in March when I got this news). Unfortunately, that time of year is my busiest work wise, and I was unable to make it happen (believe me I tried). It would have been nice to get all of those points at once, but it just didn't work out. Other than some sort of banking option when buying an add on, I don't know of any other big incentives you could get. :confused3

5infam---I'm surprised they even negotiated with you up to the point of asking you to come to Florida to sign... But CA law must have changed or they wouldn't be able to sell DVC at DL, which I understand they are now doing. Nebraska is also one of the "forbidden" states, and I can't get my guide to even tell me what the weather report is for Orlando... I don't want them (or me) to run afoul of the law, but it is frustrating when they can't even discuss process. I have a trip coming up in October, but I've already watched one incentive and one price change fly by. Frustrating.
