Purchase costume now or wait?

Should I purchase Sleeping Beauty costume now at TDS or do you think it will go on sale before Halloween? Do they sell out of sizes? Should I just spend the $34.50 now since I know that is what she really wants? I think I paid full price last year for Cindy but it was on sale on-line.

Hi! It depends on the size probably. I looked and looked for a Sleeping Beauty (needed a size 10/12) and was thrilled when I saw them online at TDS. I ordered one quickly but our trip is coming up in a week. DD was so excited she couldn't stand it. Have fun on your trip.

I would go ahead and get it. We tried to get a Stitch costume for our ds 1st halloween last year and ordered it through the catolog. We gave our payment information and got a confirmation number. Two weeks before halloween, we got a letter stating that the item was sold out. If you have the money now and you know that this is what she wants - I say get it so you'll know that she will have it.

Our DS handed out coupons about a week or so ago. I got $10 off with a purchase of $40.

Definately came in handy when I purchased the Cinderella costume, shoes, crown and wand. Actually, my mom wanted to buy it for DD so she paid me back. I'd rather save $10 incase their was no sale later so I went ahead and got it on Monday. We might even use the costume for my cousins wedding. My DD is the flower girl and the wedding color is light blue. Goes great with our bride's maids dresses.

I say buy now. When my DD was 7 months old, she was a chubby little thing, so I wanted her to be Piglet. I ordered from the DS, close to the 31st and they sent me Pooh instead. There was no time to correct the order, so she had to be Pooh. It was a little sad (for me).

I would check ebay and your local thrift shops. The prices Disney charges for costumes are insane. I can't imagine why anyone would spend $40-$60 for a kids costume that will be worn once. Also, its a good idea to ask around at your kids' school. Maybe someone has a costume from last year that they will sell or give you. There are plenty of ways to find Disney costumes without paying Disney prices.

If she has her heart set on it...buy now. My DD changes her mind so often I always wait until the last minute. The Disney costumes look really nice this year, last year I wasn't so impressed. I have gotten all of DD's costumes at TDS.

Last year we had our hearts set on DD who was 4 months old being Tinkerbelle as her nickname is TINK (older DD gave her the name when she was born and it just stuck). I waited until end of Aug to try to order costume from Disney Store and it was all sold out! I tried the stores around us and the same thing sold out in the small sizes. I ended up buying one on Ebay and paid MORE than a new one would have cost me if I had purchased it when I first saw it. I know some of you are saying....why bother jsut choose another costume but we jsut really wanted out "Tink" to be "Tink". She was so cute....she wore the costume to DS's b-day party (he was born on Halloween), I would say get the costume as soon as your child has decided what they want to be.

I don't mind paying that much for DS outfits. My daughter goes trick-or-treating 2 or 3 days at different places. She also goes to a fair that has a contest and last year she took 1st place as most beautiful as tinkerbell, which to me is priceless.

When were done for the year, I resell them on ebay. You can make 1/2, if not all of your money back since they are DS. One year, I even got more on ebay than what I paid for the outfit.

I had a scooby costume one year that I paid $20 and only made $5. I buy DS outfits for $34 ($24 with coupon and $25 for accessories) and get around $35-40 (sometimes more) for set on ebay, not inclluding the wand since I let DD keep it. You do the math...totally worth it to me.

I really don't mind paying the prices because my daughters play dress up almost daily. We sure get our money's worth.

I bought the Sleeping Beauty outfit and I mean the whole outfit for Isabella during a weak moment at Disney World last September. I was with a pal on a "big girls" trip and was missing her badly. I had to buy an extra piece of luggage to get it home!

She had just become a huge Aurora fan (the movie was just released on DVD) and was over the moon with her gift. She wore it for Halloween and for dress up all year. She wore it for her 6th birthday princess dress up party too. Did I get my money's worth? I dunno, you decide.

This is a great point. Certainly, if you are going to do this, than buying new isn't a bad deal.

Another thing - as a few folks have mentioned, sometimes a costume is a good play outfit too. My DD is 8. We've only bought her one TDS costume - Peter Pan. That was her favorite for a long time and we were able to get the costume on clearance for a very reasonable price (we never would have bought it at full price). Not only did she wear it for Halloween, she also played in it dozens of times so it got tons of use. When she was finally too big for it, we sold it on ebay for about what we paid for it.

We are heading down to Disney in Sept. I just bought a Snow White costume at walmart for 19.99. My daughter will wear it at Disney and then use it for halloween as well.

Walmart also had Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. It was just the dress, but you could always get the other accessories from the disney store.

I usually wait until TDS starts their sales on costumes before I buy. My DD will be four next month and there have always been good sales in October on the costumes. The exception was last year when I did buy her a Belle costume in August because she was having a Princess birthday party and no longer fit into any of her 2T Princess dresses. However I did not buy any of the accessories until after they went on sale. Also after Halloween they discount even more and at that time I buy quite a few of the Princess shoes and crowns b/c DD loves dress-up and uses these all the time!! I also resell her outgrown dresses at our church's children's consignment sales.

Disneystore costumes are not much more $$ than the costumes party stores sell, and they are much nicer. They will last longer for younger siblings, and/or dressup. I would try and save on the accessories, if anything.

The HOT one so far this year is : JoJo from JoJo's circus. I think it will be gone WAY before Halloween. Also, I would guess the Red Power Ranger. We will be getting more of a selection in, so far we only have the first wave in the stores.

Remember though, this year they have the 60 day return policy, and no price adjustments on costumes.
