Puppy help!!

Need some help from all the dog experts on the DIS. I think my 7-month old puppy is in heat. Imagine my horror when I noticed there was blood on the bed. She's my first puppy and i've never had to deal with this before. How long will it last? Please tell me not very long! I knew I should have gotten her spayed sooner.

I think it lasts about 10 days or more. Most vets wont spay her during this time. I'd go ahead and make an appointment (for next month) so that she gets taken care of before this sneaks up on you again.........or worse......she gets pregnant!

She will bleed for about 7 -10 days but her best time for breeding is actually the week after she is done bleeding. Total cycle time is usually about 3 weeks. They usually go into season about every 6-9 months. I'm lucky, my girl only goes in once a year. Be very very careful. Male dogs can come from miles around, seriously.

Keep her on a leash when you take her out or if the yard is fenced, stay outside with her. Roll her over and check her, she will be swollen and it will stay that way until she is done with her cycle. Some females keep themselves very clean. My colllie is immaculate. I never know, unless I check her . She keeps herself very clean and I never see blood anywhere. Some females aren't so good about it.

Just keep an extra eye on here.

Females usually have their first heat cycle at 5-8 months, so your dog is in the right age range. Estrus lasts approximately 21 days, and she may bleed for that long, or only for a few days.

Your vet probable will not spay her until her cycle is completely over- spaying during a cycle increases the risks of infection and false pregnancy. But call NOW and make an appointment, please.

Keep her isolated from any intact males dogs for at least the next 3-4 weeks. If there is any chance she may have been bred, contact your vet IMMEDIATELY. You do not want a dog that young carrying a pregnancy.

Wrong. Since he comes from champion bloodlines he is very particular. A bit of a snob he is.

Seriously, even if you have a 10 foot fence with a razor top, do NOT allow her outside unsupervised for even one second. Males can achieve some amazing feats to get to a b**** in heat. And once they establish a tie, good luck separating them.

When I was younger, I wanted either one of those or a collie, I ended up with the collies.

omg! i love the komodor also, although i have never had one of them.

in the dane world it is not called boston, but some other word i just can't for the life of me remember. but it is the black and white color marking, not harlequien. the black/white markings are more solid.

i would also make sure you keep you eye on your female, she may want to go for a run also,
..what i mean is, its not always the boy that comes to visit.
..my female dane is the one that started it all with our male, even though we had them completely seperated. she had a will and she found a way. we ended up with 13 dane puppies! (and only 1/2 her nipples worked.

you might want to get her a diaper. Just buy some panty liners at walmart, as they are cheaper than the ones at petsmart.

Good idea, hadn't thought of that. How do they usually do with those?
